I'm not completely against Buffy and Spike

Once again I am not defending Spike. He did take advantage of Buffy and that was not something he should have done, I do agree with that. Because he was soulless I can forgive him for that. To be fair, I think Buffy is still suffering from depression in s7 (and beyond), but during that season I'm fine with her relationship with Spike. I agree with the fact that s6 was abuse, but for example the kiss in OMWF was consensual, at least in my opinion.

It depends how much you can view person with that kind of psychological depression as being able to consent. A normal person would have likely not allowed Buffy to kiss them, but that was never gonna happen with Spike, maybe Angel, but definitely not Spike, especially without a soul, which I agree is a valid point, although I have noticed that a lot of Spuffys tend not to see this distinction, as it means that ultimately Spuffy only lasted for the last one or two episodes of Season 7, with season 6 being a write off.

I just opened a new topic if you'd like to keep discussing this, just didn't want to spoil anything for OP :)
I've kinda done the la la la la not listening thing through about 3/4 of this thread. But someone please answer this question, all I want is a yes or no, not an explanation or anything but does Spike get his soul back in later seasons???

Also, thank you all for not spoiling the rest of the season/series for me!

I always loved Spike as a character from his introduction in season 2 and knew from the first time he saw Buffy that he was forever connected to her. IMO I love that they made him come face to face with his feelings in season 5 and the story arch from then on . . . the high, and very low lows. Its hard to go in to much more detail without spoilers but you'll have to decide for yourself . . .

Riley just grates on my nerves. He's too charming and too boyishly cute to be real. It ll has to be a put on, which, as it turns out, isn't too far from the truth. I've often speculated that one of the reasons that he and his fellow Initiative commandos were chosen in the first place was for their looks and charm so that they would be able to blend in more easily with the college kids, with any fighting ability being secondary. I think that Buffy WANTED to love him more than she actually loved him, because, especially in the beginning, he was almost the complete opposite of Angel, and had the additional asset of being the kind of boyfriend that ehr family and friend liked and approved of.

The first episode of "Buffy" that I saw was in Season 6, so I won't go into any details about it, other than to say that there was a bond between the two characters, stronger, more trusting, and hinting more of a barely restrained passion than anything Buffy shared with any of her other friends. They simply seemed to belong together. That's how I saw them then, and nothing that has happened before or since that first episode,and nothing that anyone has ever said to the contrary has changed that.

I actually think my aversion to Angel/Buffy and Riley/Buffy is the sappy, over wrought way that SMG plays the relationships. I just can't stomach the saccharine quality of it. Give me Spike and his snarky, intelligent, cocky attitude any day over that. Some people just prefer repartee over googly eyes. It's a personal preference.
