I'm just curious, because it's quite difficult for me to select a favorite movie for each year.
...but here we go:

1990 - Total Recall
1991 - The Silence of the Lambs
1992 - Reservoir Dogs
1993 - Jurassic Park
1994 - Pulp Fiction (honorable mentions: The Shawshank Redemption, Forrest Gump)
1995 - Heat (honorable mentions: The Usual Suspects, Toy Story, Casino)
1996 - Trainspotting
1997 - L.A. Confidential
1998 - The Big Lebowski
1999 - The Matrix
2000 - Memento (honorable mentions: American Psycho, Snatch, O Brother, Where Art Thou)
2001 - Mulholland Dr.
2002 - Road to Perdition
2003 - Kill Bill: Vol. 1
2004 - Collateral
2005 - Serenity (honorable mentions: Batman Begins, Munich, The Proposition)
2006 - Das Leben der Anderen (I must admit, I haven't watched many movies from that year, but this film is one of the best German movies)
2007 - Zodiac
2008 - The Dark Knight
2009 - Moon
2010 - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (weird choice, I know. Didn't like Inception and Shutter Island)
2011 - Intouchables
2012 - Safety Not Guaranteed (honorable mentions: Django Unchained, Dredd, Seven Psychopaths)
2013 - Prisoners (honorable mentions: Captain Phillips, 12 Year a Slave)
2014 - Whiplash (honorable mentions: The Grand Budapest Hotel, Nightcrawler)

What are your choices? (If you care to put the effort into the list 😛)

Django Unchained, Seven Psychopaths
I could not believe that when I read it. It does not seem at all to me that they came out in the same year. Seven Psychopaths seems like it have been around for a long time and Django doesn't seem that old. But I think Django was at Christmastime so maybe thats the excuse. Still.. I would never have guessed it.

IMDb was such a huge part of the early internet.
It was my favourite site by far when I went online in the mid '90s

I used the download the database so I could use it offline though. (It was so expensive to stay online for longer times)
Even wrote a nice program that searched the files and created a document with all the data about a movie.
Wonder if you can still download the data? Haven't checked that for years.

Have kinda lost most of my interest in movies these days... so I don't use IMDb much anymore.
Will always have a soft spot for the site though.

Can't really make a list with my favourite movies at moment, will have to come back to that. Sorry! 🙂

Wow! There was internet in 1990, like where you can have a movie database? I only discovered IMDb about 5 years ago, I thought it was maybe 10 years old, never would have guessed 25. I do use IMDb quite often, almost every day.

I am bad with what movies came out what year, I'd have to see a full list of what movies were released each year. But here are some of my favorites of the last 25 years.

Jurassic Park is probably my favorite movie of all time. Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Clueless, Bring it On, Easy A, The Martian, He's Just Not That Into You, and all The Hunger Games movies. I'm sure there are more. I admit I have not seen most of the movies you guys have listed already.

Jurassic Park is the best :)
I can't remember a time when I couldn't just to to IMDB when I was watching something and couldn't figure out why I knew a certain actor. Having said that, I didn't think that it was 25 years old!

1990 - Total Recall
1993 - Jurassic Park
1999 - The Matrix
2005 - Serenity (honorable mentions: Batman Begins)
2008 - The Dark Knight
2012 - (honorable mentions: Django Unchained)
No chance of me remembering which films came out when but all of these are good shouts 🙂

IMDB staff ranks the top 25 tv-shows since 1990... IMDb 25th Anniversary - IMDb

Buffy makes the cut at place 12 and Firefly ranks as number 9! Not too shabby!
Not surprised to see Silicon Valley on that list. 🙂
Firefly isn't that unexpected either I guess.
Also fun to see shows like Freaks and Geeks and Buffy.

That's ludicrous. They have Buffy ranked above The West Wing? And then when I saw Transparent on the list I stopped reading. It had one season thus far.

Well, from what I gathered it's just like staff favorites. Not a "the best shows ever" list.

Skanky Vamp

It's still ludicrous
I'm basing my list on movies I can watch again and again (or the rare one that impressed me so much, that I don't need a rewatch), I'm not including sequels+, and I can't pick just one, so there are up to 4 honorable mentions 🙂

Also, it got easier when I reached the new millennium, the just don't make movies like they used to...

1990:
GoodFellas (honorable mentions: Mermaids, Misery, The Bonfire of the Vanities, Die Hard 2)
1991: Sleeping with the Enemy (honorable mentions: Fried Green Tomatoes, Hudson Hawk, Deceived, The Commitments)
1992: A League of Their Own (honorable mentions: The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, Death Becomes Her)
1993: The Fugitive (honorable mentions: Philadelphia, Sleepless in Seattle, What's Love Got To Do with It, What's Eating Gilbert Grape)
1994: The Shawshank Redemption (honorable mentions: Forrest Gump, True Lies, Natural Born Killers, Léon)
1995: Now & Then (honorable mentions: The Usual Suspects, Se7en, Muriel's Wedding, The Basketball Diaries)
1996: Freeway (honorable mentions: Independence Day, The First Wives Club, The Long Kiss Goodnight, Scream)
1997: The Fifth Element (honorable mentions: Kiss the Girls, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Liar Liar, Selena)
1998: The Truman Show (honorable mentions: Practical Magic, Wild Things, The Faculty, Armageddon)
1999: Double Jeopardy (honorable mentions: Drop Dead Gorgeous, Dogma, Man on the Moon, The Mummy)
2000: Where the Heart Is (honorable mentions: The Whole Nine Yards, Final Destination, But I'm a Cheerleader, Miss Congeniality)
2001: Don't Say a Word (honorable mentions: Sugar and Spice, The Man Who Cried, Legally Blonde)
2002: White Oleander (honorable mentions: Enough, Trapped, The Hot Chick, Resident Evil)
2003: Monster (honorable mentions: PotC: The Curse of the Black Pearl, View From the Top, Big Fish, Duplex)
2004: De Grønne Slagtere (honorable mentions: The Butterfly Effect, Connie & Carla, The Stepford Wives, Saved!)
2005: Der Untergang (honorable mentions: Waiting..., Man of the House, Beauty Shop, Cursed)
2006: Mini's First Time (honorable mentions: The Departed, Dreamgirls, Stay Alive, Hard Candy)
2007: Grindhouse (honorable mentions: Hairspray, Stardust, Halloween)
2008: Penelope (honorable mentions: Iron Man, Bolt, Prom Night)

Okay, this is getting depressing, so I'm gonna stop here; so difficult to find exceptional movies after the 2000s...
