God, did I ever love this book.

The characters were spot on, and the storylines felt real. One of the books that I feel have a real place in the series, because it seems just like an episode. So many aspects of it that I love...

I loved the idea of Veronique. And Lucy Hanover making another appearance just cinched it for me. I love it when she pops up.

Anybody else love this book as much as I do?
 
This is one of the Buffy novels I worship. It was fantastic. And like you said; completely fit into the series. When the concept of a Buffy movie was being thrown about I remember thinking that making Immortal as the Buffy movie would have been absolutely perfect. It had the characters spot on, the setting of High School which is always fun to go back to, Veronique was just an amazing villain and I loved all the flashbacks to Veronique's previous lives. Though the Joyce-being-ill thing was wicked foreshadowy. I liked how Angel knew her doctor though from years ago; that was also a nice touch.

There were so many 'nice touches' throughout the book. I instantly knew I was going to enjoy it though from the first chapter. That really shocked me what happened to the couple! It's just not what you expect in this sort of book, because it does remain relatively tame but...yee gods.
 
I love some of the lines from this book.

Cordelia: "I'd rather tell the dentist to give me a root canal with rusty tools and no Novocaine."

Buffy: "Well, give the man a gold star and a blueberry scone!"

All off the top of my head. Because I'm lame.

The Joyce thing was wicked foreshadowy, and I loved it because of that. Just so many little plot points that wrapped together so nicely.

And the Buffy scene with Giles at his house with the tea...touching. Loved that.

The entire book is just so made of awesome I can't think of anything else in particular to rave about right now. I know I will later...once I start reading it again, since my copy's so beat up the pages are yellow and the binding's falling apart. I must've read it like, twelve times already. Probably more...I think it was the fourth Buffy book I ever bought, and it's still my favorite.
 
I found an audio version of this in a used book store several years ago, and figured it would be good to listen to as I drove back and forth to work, especially since it was read by Charisma Carpenter. The story, condensed, I'm sure, was pretty good, but Charisma has no idea how to read for an audio book. Take the trouble to read it for yourself (but park your car first).
 
This is the first Buffy novel I ever read and the reason i continue to read them. There are a couple of novels that I sometimes confuse as actual canon because they were THAT good, this is one of them. It was pitch perfect. Seriously I cannot express my love for this book enough! Angel knowing the doctor was just inspired in my opinion it fit so well.

I remeber when the Joyce storyline was started in S5 I was like 'they totally stole that from Immortal!'LOL
 
I too loved Immortal also , the only thing that annoyed me came later , when Joyce had all the trouble with her brain before she died , there was no mention that she had previous brain related problems . I just thought the Shows writers might have read the book and made a reference.
 
i finished this book recently, and i thought it was really really well done. i had read queen of the slayers before this, and was disappointed. immortal was a lot better. it was scary how accurate and canon it was.

The stories in the Buffy novels are just that, stories. They have absolutely nothing to do with the canon of the show.

There are some sort/kinda exceptions to that, with the character Lucy Hanover. She was a former Slayer created by, I want to say Christopher Golden? I'm not 100% put I'm pretty sure she is now part of Buffylore.

Other than that all the Buffy novels are pretty much fan fiction.
 
I loved Immortal... I need to pull all my Buffy books back out and reread them all; I love them. I also agree that Immortal would have made a wicked Buffy movie!
