I used to have a friend who thought the slayers couldn't age. She then kept passing this on to random people she would introduce to the series. I tried dispelling the idea, but it never worked. I was never under the impression that the slayers couldn't age, in fact it's said in the series in season three that I can think of by the mayor, and then by Buffy that they will age. So, even though I don't think they are, it made me curious...Was anyone here under that impression at any point?

No, the Slayer's are quite obviously not immortal. We see Buffy both growing older and dying... I don't see how anyone would have gotten the impression that they were immortal.

I suppose in a sense that their legacy is though in the sense that the Slayer power/essence lives on... but in someone else...

Nope. The slayer is a mortal, just with supernatural strength. Therefore she would still be subject to ageing, what with the whole being alive thing.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who is aware of this. And Taake, I'm quite puzzled as to how she could have gotten that impression, as well lol.

I think what Buffy said specifically was that no Slayer has ever lived past the age of 25, not precisely the same as saying that they would, in fact, grow old and die of what could be termed natural causes. Since the Slayers all die violent deaths, whether not they are invulnerable can be definitely answered in the negative, but whether or not they would actually age and grow old or remain young, healthy young women for as long as she lived, whether that be a couple of decades, or a couple of centuries, has never been answered. Personally, I don't believe that Slayers are actually immortal, but they would almost certainly, due to their accelerated healing rate, live longer and more healthy lives if they managed to avoid dying in the execution of their Slayer duties.

So, are the Slayers immortal? Probably not, but as of now, that is a question that has no actual, definite answer. Check back with Buffy in 50 years or so.

GOOD post WA!
To me there IS an definite answer, which is not. Slayer are human, they're not demons or vampires, simply human. I never thought otherwise. This is so weird that she got to that conclusion!

Well, that's not completely true since we learn in season 7 that they have some kind of demon essence in them. But yeah, they're not immortal. Although we simply don't see any aged slayers since they all died young.

Buffy and Angel both commented about her aging....she asked if he thought that they would still be patrolling in the graveyards and slaying vamps when she was 50 and Angel made a comment about how they would have to worry about getting her to live to 50. I am drawing a blank on which episode it is....does anyone remember it?

Buffy also said a couple times that slayers have an expiration date and rarely live past 25. Angel also mentioned the possibility of her wanting to have kids in the future.

I always thought these comments made it clear that slayers do age.

Very true. That is what I was referring to. It was a season 3 episode....That I JUST watched. I can't remember it though, and it BUGS me.
So... this 'friend' of yours sounds a little silly 😛

No, I was never under that impression, never heard of that before!

That actually isn't a cover...It really was a friend. I have her email address and phone number and everything as proof. LOL.

I'm too much of a Buffy nerd to ever think that.
