Important Message about banned member Edmund Blackadder

Unfortunately, the site staff feels that it is necessary to give a "heads up" to the BB membership regarding one of our banned members, "Edmund Blackadder".

It has come to our attention that his Facebook account (using the name "Philatious Winthrope Soggybottom") has been re-activated.

Now due to recent events (Boris Johnson aide jailed over child porn - Exclusive - Buffy-Boards), we want to make sure that everyone is cautious about adding him/leaving him as your Facebook friend. Obviously, everyone needs to make their own decision about who they want to allow to contact them. However, especially for our underage members, we urge that you give careful thought to it before adding.

We just want to make sure everyone is safe. As always, with anyone/anywhere on the internet, please be careful about giving out personal information. And if anyone makes you feel uncomfortable - even if you aren't sure why - PLEASE tell a trusted adult. You are always welcome to contact the staff here as well if you aren't sure if you should be concerned about something. Better to be over cautious than not cautious enough.

Holy crap no, there was no connection between him and the boards, he was just a member here, who had befriended and lied to a good few people here.

To be honest theres no need to go about explaining it, if you didn't know him before, this wont be an issue, it was just a heads up so people are aware.

I was actually friends with him on facebook but didn't really talk to him and he eventually removed me anyway. I hope no one on here or facebook has been affected by him in anyway.

As Nix said, there are protections that are in place to prevent people from registering under new accounts (or that alert us if they do). I can't go into detail obviously but please know that we are on the lookout and will do everything possible to make sure that does not happen.

And it probably goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway, if anyone is contacted on the board by EB using another account, PLEASE please please let a staff member know. I know you might not want to "tattle" or what have you, but this really is important and member safety really could be at risk.

...even though taken out of context, it will cause uninformed people to associate Buffy/Angel fans with his other activities. Sadly, there are way too many people out there who jump at any opportunity to point fingers and say, "See there, I've said all along that there has to be something wrong with someone who enjoys that sort of thing." We become victims of guilt by association.

Exactly. And you know what sucks is that mentioning that EB was a member here is not even relevant to the case. Why even bring up that association? Because WA's right... There are stupid people out there that will associate Buffy fans with pedophiles after reading that. 🙁
