Improving Season 2

Completely agree. I think because the show is aimed to teens, they didn't make Angel dark enough. He didn't scare me one bit. Even killing Jenny was because she found a way to get his soul back and not because he was evil. I wanted him to do evil things to Buffy's friends, scar them for life, and hurting Xander so bad would have made that scene in Becoming 1 more powerful.
 
You mean one of the most devastating scenes I have ever watched? I don't ship Bangel in the slightest but Angel's "You were a real pro" speech was incredibly cruel and exquisite psychological torture, IMO.

You found it devastating? I found it anti-climatic, considering that Angel did not try to kill Buffy after insulting her sexual prowess. The whole scene was simply disappointing to me. I can't help how I feel about it.

Disappointing? The scene was perfect.. great acting, plus it gave us the message it supposed to give us. It was harsh, and hard to watch.. but not disappointing.

I find it perfect, too, because Angel likes playing with his victims before killing them. He wanted to crush Buffy before killing her. He did do a poor job at that though later on. The only evil act he did was killing Jenny and he only did it because she found a way to restore his soul.
 
How to improve season 2 in my opinion.

More Buffy & Angel scenes and then more scenes of Angelus being evil and cruel. When I first watched this season I was so amazed by everything Angelus done, but on re-watches I noticed he's not shown on screen as much as I thought he was and a lot of his scenes are just him talking. I'd like to have seen him torture and kill a lot more.

Second thing i'd change about the season is remove Go Fish! from such a late slot and put it around the start of the season instead.

Baddies try to kill Buffy just about every day while only Angel could have made that speech. Plus, it's not as if it was a choice between the speech and trying to kill Buffy, he could have both and did just that. And he wasn't just insulting Buffy's sexual prowess. That said, it probably woudl have had more impact if Angel had continued the charade longer, instead of blowing his cover in the very same episode.
 
I agree that it's the most overrated season. I also agree that Angelus wasn't as evil as they made him out to be. Killing Jenny? That's it? Also, as said, too many stand-alone episodes. Yawn.

This season uses convenient charcters and arcs to push its agenda and it's more noticable than in the other seasons. (At least it is to me) Such as the Judge. They kill him with a rocket launcher then never go back to the idea of guns in the rest of the series? Then you have Spike and Dru who served no purpose other than to be Angels gang later on. *shakes head*

I think it could have been improved if they switched seasons 2 and 3. Say that Buffy and Angel were together longer and grew closer then slept together because it was the next step in their relationship instead of pushing them together under 'tragic' circumstances. (By which I mean the fact that Angel was just about to leave then they found out the Judge was assembled and almost got killed yada yada.) If they had switched the seasons I think I would have liked it a lot more. Season 2 felt forced to me. I liked the arc in general but I think they could have executed it better than they did.

To sum it up, half of the season was about pushing Bangel together. The other half was them obsessing over the other. There wasn't anything else going on. It was boring and felt unnatural.

Hopefully that made some kind of sense and I didn't ramble in circles lol. I know that many people like season 2 and I can understand why, but it just wasn't the season for me.
 
I love this season, but they needed to get rid of all the stand alone episodes, "Go Fish", "I Only Have Eyes For You", "Killed by Death", etc

They also should have made Angel become Angelus a lot sooner, the season only became good when he turned evil. I felt if they even made him evil a couple episodes earlier, it would have improved things a lot
 
I love season 2 and the angelus arc, spike and dru, everything!
and i know the season probably wouldn't have had enough room for it, but i would have liked evil darla to come to evil angelus and they would have been a full, evil, fanged four! i love the fanged four so much, they're just awesome 🙂
 
This is probably my favorite season of the series - it has the best characters season-wide and the best arc. (Buffy's one love turning evil and trying to kill her? No one saw that coming!) Some of the episodes were a little cheesey, but still entertaining. Good Joyce moments, good Spike and Dru moments, we got to meet Angelus, we got to see Buffy's first big "put the world before my wants/needs" moment. I don't know, I thought most of the episodes were very well-written and that is was very well-acted. I tend to enjoy mind-play more than just all-out physical violence, though.
 
This is my favourite season and while I think the filler episodes were necessary I feel that they could have been better. Also that Angelus could have been more evil, especially with the Scooby gang.

Inca Mummy Girl - ...I just can't get into this episode. It seems very contrived and doesn't make sense. What about the real Ampata? Getting someone to live in your house for a foreign exchange program is more complicated than picking someone up at the train station that say they are who they say they are. And then the mummy girl stuffs hi corpse in the truck? Wouldnt Buffy had smelled a decomposing body? Ehh, just not a good one in my book. The only redeeming thing is when Xander eats the Twinkies and getting to see Oz fall for Eskimo-Willow.

Spike/Dru - I think it was imperative to have Spike and Dru there for Angelus to fall back with. He wasn't just evil, but he had his evil gang too. Otherwise, it would have just been Angelus going around by himself which wouldn't have been as fun to watch or as interesting. We don't have the whole back story of Dru, Spike, Darla, and Angelus quite yet in the show, but when we do, it makes the whole season 2 thing more meaningful: the old gang is back together wreaking havoc and chaos. I loved that about season 2! Plus, seeing Angel and Spike have that tension from almost the get-go was simply fantastic.

Go Fish - cute episode. And I am big fan of any of the episodes that are really tied in with the school or school activities (The Witch, Some Assembly Required, School Hard...) because I was in high school when I started watching Buffy so it was easy to relate. But yes, I also felt like it was an awkwardly placed episode between the serious string of episodes from Passion, Killed By Death, I Only Have Eyes For You, and Becoming parts 1&2. But it's possible that Joss and the writers wanted something more fun and less angsty amidst the terribly serious and depressing events of the episodes around it. Yes, Angel was killing again and Jenny had died, but these kids were still only 17y/o and still wear dealing with "normal" high school problem.

I know in my original post it may have come off like I hated all of the stand alones apart from the ones I mentioned (Bad Eggs, Go Fish, Reptile Boy and Inca Mummy Girl) I like Bad Eggs and Go Fish. I understand the idea that they were wanting something a bit more immature before and at the end of the arc. I think it's because we had such a heavy emotional episode in Becoming and even most of the episodes that came before Go Fish, that it makes sense to put it in there. That's not to say that I don't like the episode though, In my original post, I said that they just felt out of place, which they did. I do sort of wish that Go Fish was scrapped, and like I said originally, replaced with another part of the becoming arc (if for anything, more Bianca Lawson.) But, I don't know, my opinion on it is actually fairly mixed. Inca Mummy Girl is the second worst episode of the entire series in my opinion, but we also have to realise that the first half of the season was pretty arcless. Yes, we had School Hard and the What's My Line eps, but apart from that, there wasn't really an arc until Surprise/Innocence. So the stand-alones were expected, whether or not they were supposed to be that bad are another thing entirely though.

During the Buffy Marathon on Sci Fi in Australia this weekend, I've realised a few things that I don't on rewatches. During a marathon, one episode fades into the next episode and it's done so well here. I was watching the episodes and they all just fell into each other which makes the standalones seem a little less sucky. Some of them still suck, but suck a little less if that makes sense.

Also watching it (with only missing a few episodes, I recorded most of it. I love Foxtel IQ) it makes it so much harder to watch eps like Graduation Day and Wild At Heart. When I was watching Wild At Heart, that last scene actually made me feel like I was getting my heart ripped out of my chest. You think of the wonderful couple that was created in Season 2 (Woz) and it just ended so unexpectedly. It was very sad and it's even harder to watch in rewatches because you're seeing it all in consecutive fashion and you see every part of their relationship.

Yeah, I got a bit off topic, but I feel like I made some sort of point...I hope.
