What parts of Season 3 would you change to make the overall season better? Would you leave Angel in Hell? Make the Mayor scarier? Have Buffy's absence in Sunnydale go on a bit longer or have more lingering consequences for Buffy's relationship with the Scoobies?

Leave the Mayor alone he was perfect.
I'd have a bit more of Trick, that woulda made it much better.
Add another big hitting ep like FFL or innocence(and s3 already had a few) and you got the perfect season.

Agreed, the mayor was pretty much perfect
The only thing I can think of is the special effects of the whole Ascension fight in the last episode.

The on again off again Bangel thing got a bit tiresome after a while as well, despite there being some beautiful moments in episodes like Amends.

A re-rendering of the CGI in the Mayor ascension, would definitely be on the cards!
I agree with Mr Giles about the Mayor.
And agree with sisterofmercy about Bangel this season, it killed them and made me hate them which I didn't up until then. But Amends was the worst for me, both Bangel wise and plot wise. I would change that episode completely. Snow was pretty though. It was very white.

Umm, I would also like more Spike. Not as a regular, but for more episodes. Only less depressed, more drunk.

I hated Trick. Didn't like his evil style at all. And Faith could have worn a less dark lipstick. Way too dark, even for her.

Ugh the CGI was awful...haha hilariously so. I also agree about the Bangel angst. I did love that they made fun of it in The Zeppo though.

Would you leave Angel in Hell?
This. A million times this... it wouldn't only make S3 better, but the 'verse in its entirety. (Assuming Eliza would have been available and interested to star in the Faith spinoff...) Keeping the guy in hell would mean we could get rid of the lameness that is Amends... and thus probably of The First too, meaning that down the line in S7, Caleb would either be a standalone Big Bad, or have a less lame power source, which would in either case make the season noticeably better IMO.

Aside from that... well, the only thing I'd really wish to change would be making Joyce & Xander not act as such complete selfrighteous jerks in DMP. I wanna slap them every time I watch the shouting in the livingroom... argh.

I also wanted to smack Xander in "Dead Man's Party."
Leave Angel in hell. Resurrections are so cheap. My only regret in them taking them path would be that we wouldn't get AtS, which is admittedly a rather large regret, but for the benefit of S3 itself like the OP calls for, leave Angel in hell.

Maybe alter the plan in Graduation Day a little? I liked the idea of the entire school coming together, but it was just really unrealistic. Plus, I'm sure a lot of people died in the onslaught...

I would have left Angel in hell. In my opinion, it would have made the season even stronger, and forced Buffy to move on. The Bangel stuff in this season was a little too drawn out for my taste. The awesomeness of having Faith in this season was more than enough, Angel wasn't all that necessary. Of course, then there wouldn't have been the show "Angel," which means there wouldn't have been my main man Doyle, but maybe they could have done a Faith spin-off with Doyle? I can dream. 🙂

I would have thrown a few Faith scenes in the episodes that Faith wasn't in, and I would put Eliza Dushku in the credits. Then it would be perfect.

More Zeppo esque episodes, but with Willow & Oz taking the place of Xander in some of them.
More Earshot / School centred episodes.

More 'The Wish' alternate reality/ Bizarro world episodes, is it just me or did Dystopian Sunnydale seem like the walls themselves had horror stories to tell? it was hellavu lot more engrossing than regular Sunnydale.

More Joyce & Giles.

Less Scott Hope.

I'd have loved to see them deal with Xander's lie in S3. It would have been interesting storyline for Xander that deals with his relationship with Buffy. I'd also love if Angel knew, imagine the hot slashy scenes between Xander and Angel.

I'd have also liked a goodbye scene between Xander and Cordelia.

I'd have made Xander and Cordelia break up without Xander cheating on her with Willow.

I'd have loved to meet Xander's parents, Cordelia's parents, Oz' parents and see them interacting with their folks on TV.

Oh, it would have been cool if we saw Xander dealing with Faith's attempted rape on him. Interesting gender reversal stuff. Too bad the writers didn't take this opportunity.

The parents idea sounds pretty fun!
I think season 3 would have been a good time to throw Joyce a good kick ass moment. She never really had one, except in season 2 when she hit Spike with an ax.

I'd take out Angel's first attempts to break up with Buffy... A bit too much for me. I'd have preferred for a long, slow, less painful break up that would've led to Angel leaving (or just no break up and no leaving at all!!!)

Agreed, No Angel leaving at all, and as controversial and hated as I'm going to be for suggesting this. Without an Angel the show, the writers wouldn't have been drawn thin, this perhaps may have preventing the suckiness that is later seasons of BtVS.

In my opinion later seasons of BtVS were mediocre, by BtVS standards, and Angel seasons were slightly better but still mediocre.
If the two shows had remained one, them maybe BtVS could have remained awesome.

Another suggestion for Season 3 is a return of the Whistler, or Angel tracking the Whistler down to find out why he was back from hell.

I would have loved to see Angel and Mr. Trick go at it in Graduation Day but either way it is still one of my favorites.
