Improving Season 4

Yeah, I agree with this. I would've liked to have pulled the Oz/Veruca/Willow storyline out longer than what it was, with Willow meeting Tara somewhere in the middle of this and them starting off as friends. OR. I'd hold off on Tara till Season 5, giving Willow more time between breaking up with Oz and getting with Tara. Then Season 5 the Tillow storyline could've built slowly and Willow being confused and figuring out what everything means, which would've kept Tara alive at least till Season 7, making Willow a better villain than what she was in Season 6, with Willow healing in season 8 instead of what she's doing now.

Yep, exactly, I would have kept them just friends throughout Season 4. Then have them find their true feelings during Season 5. Cut out the needless Kennedy stuff too. In fact, the more I think of Willow's journey the more it could have been dealt with better. 😛

I agree. Slowly developing the Willow/Tara relationship would have been a great way to do it.

Cut out the Angel appearances. That would have been an improvement.

Really? It's been awhile since I last saw the season but from what I remember Angel's appearances were among the highlights of the season, alongside Hush and Primeval. Just IMO of course. The only issue I'd have with Angel's appearances is that in his appearance in the latter stage of the season, they basically fed Riley to him, and in a way confirming the indignation of fans about Riley.

I don't see how stalking your ex across town for an entire episode constitutes one of the highlights of the season.

I guess this season is mostly problematic if you choose to place too much focus on Adam. I focus on the Scoobies all transitioning to a new stage in their lives, and in that regard the enjoining spell and the shared dream in Restless make for an awesome pay-off. Though the theme of the occult conflicting with the scientific could've been handled better.

Not for me they weren't. I really didn't need Angel's presence in "Pangs". Even worse, that appearance proved to be an introduction to the atrocious "I Will Remember You". I guess Angel's appearance was needed to start Riley on his road of insecurities in regard to his own relationship with Buffy. But I was not that impressed by it.

!? 😱

That's like one of my favourite Ats episodes (albeit haven't seen it in awhile). What made you dislike it if you don't mind me asking?

Season 4 needed a better big bad. I too like the idea of the Initiative, but not it's execution. A secret military base right below a State university, with soldiers posing as Frat Boys and scientists posing as psyche professors? Give me a break. And the whole Frankenstein monster thing was lame.

None of the major relationships - Willow/Tara, Buffy/Riley, Xander/Anya - really did it for me. If someone had to be gay, it should have been Xander. Willow could have whined about Oz for a few episodes until she found another guy at University, I'm sure she could have found some geekboy-turned-occultist who would have made a good Scoobie. And Buffy may have needed a boyfriend, but we could have done better than Riley. Since she liked older men (haha) how about an affair with a male professor?

Also, I have issues with an Oxford educated Giles not being able to find work at all. They could have worked him into the story better, even possibly as a part time instructor at UC Sunnydale.

If I could truly have my way; the only Trio on Buffy would have been Twilloz; but since that couldn't happen; don't have Oz leave until later in the season. Of course we'd still have Something Blue; just for another reason. End the season with Willow and Tara as budding friends. Start season five with Willow accepting her feelings as more than platonic; write Tara as serene instead of mousy.

Keep Maggie around as the beast master for Adam; make Riley more like he was around Spike in season five. Give the man some balls for crying out loud. Focus more on Adam's empowerment of the demon community. Don't put the climax in the boring initiative set.

Giles should have bought the magic shop this season; it was an awesome set and it would have made it's destruction in season six even more impacting.

Spike's development in this season was perfect for me; so I'm not sure what if anything I would change...oh; have him standing on the roof when Riley and Angel are going at it; let him narrate a little bit.

Have some scenes with them at the beach...in bikinis...😎

Oz/Willow/Tara as a trio relationship would have been a great, interesting idea to explore. I would have loved to see the reactions of Buffy, Xander, and Giles to that bombshell.

For Giles, I would either have him run the magic shop back then like Litheran said or have him get a job in Buffy's university to keep a closer eye on her, still considering him as her Watcher at least in a personal sense.

Maggie Walsh should have been the Big Bad and Adam should have been her lackey until he turns aganist her by the end of the season.

Xander would have been recruited by the Initiative and become one of the enhanced soldiers. Hell, he could have replaced Riley completely in the season and, taking Anya out of the equation too, develop a romantic relationship with Buffy since he did have a crush on her back in Season 1. With Angel out of the way, maybe Xander would seize his chance to finally be with her but of course taking it slowly.
