In Celebration Of Fuffy

My cheeks hurt, I think I've been smiling too much. This sure was an interesting read, some of it was mainly funny, but I got do agree that Faith really comes off as gay sometimes. Either way Fuffy is my OTP for Buffy. And when thinking of s3, the subtext is so in your face that it's almost not subtext anymore.

And you know why Satsu makes sense, because she's not the first woman Buffy would have slept with. I just wish we would have gotten that kiss as they initially planned instead of the kiss on the forehead.

I like Fuffy because, if it did happen, it would be pretty much everything described: sexy, painful, romantic, doomed, heartfelt and dramatic.

All the things a good 'ship should be- interesting. 🙂

Completely agree, to me Fuffy in s3 would have been what Spuffy could not be (if that makes sense). In s6, they pushed too hard for Spike (even if I do like the pairing), Faith would have been a more logical route to go to have that romantic/doomed feeling. I think it would have played much, much better. Plus they could have kept the story similar but expend it a bit. Have Buffy and Faith get together in s3, could still have Faith eventually go evil (such an epic story, I wouldn't want them to change that), and then have them reconnect in s7, it would have worked perfectly.

I'm still hoping that we get some Fuffy scenes in the comic where they at least become close friends again.

That was a pretty entertaining read. I like the line about Eliza's looks are to compensate her acting. It's kind of true, except she does a great job acting as Faith, everything else not so much.

I love the subtext, at on first watch I thought it was just Faith, but now I see it in Buffy as well. Had they built up more of a Fuffy relationship in S3 it would have more emotional when they face off in Graduation Day pt1. Although maybe that would have felt too much like Becoming.

I also would like to see some more Fuffy interaction in the comics. They just play off of eachother so well.
 
Pretty funny read! As a Bangel, I'm obligated to disagree with some parts of it😛 but I could have totally gotten behind Buffy/Faith if the writers actually committed to it. Even though I ultimately want Angel to be the endgame, Faith would be my #2 choice if it was ever made canon.

Also, Angel/Buffy/Faith would have been a MUCH better love triangle than the one we've been stuck with circa "Chosen."

And yes, Joss tended to stay away from love triangles onscreen but if they had had that one in 'Chosen' it would've been worth the wait!

Seriously their 'triangle' that isn't actually a triangle is actually really interesting. I always found the Buffy/Faith/Angel dynamic fantastic ever since 'Sanctuary' (Buffy actually getting jealous is rare...)
I don't see Angel/Faith as romantic, but I wouldn't be opposed to it going that way....but only if 1) Buffy didn't get short-changed by being stuck with Spike 🙁 and 2) It was a really well written romance that developed organically, not some 'we kiss and are now in love' crap!

Yes, I really liked the triangle in "Sanctuary," especially because we got to see Angel and Faith interacting and forming a bond on their own independent of Buffy. Well, until she stormed in at least.

I'm pretty against Angel/Faith. They're "bros", not romantic partners. I hope Joss learned his lesson about ruining great male/female friendships by turning it into a forced romance. See: Angel/Cordy.

I enjoyed the Fuffy insanity. I can definitely see the.. appeal.
Lots of the points made from specific scenes and their dialogue are a fun interpretation.

Their slayer bond is just that though, one will always contradict the other, they're the slayer yin and yang, and they complement each other perfectly whether they like it or not. Their respect, love, jealousy, hatred, disappointment, guilt, trust; all aspects that make up their mutual calling of slayerhood and the relationship that has evolved.

Bondage. Just had to spit that out cos it's been on the tip of my tongue since typing about Fuffy.
 
I remember someone once pointing out that the first scene that we see after the body swap is Faith, in Buffy's body, naked in a bathtub. Did she need a bath, or was that just Faith's fulfilling an old fantasy?

I've always wanted Buffy and Faith to be closer as friends, especially when they were the only two Slayers, but I don't think that they could ever be long term lovers. A short affair with a heartbreaking split up would be more likely. More Joss-like.

If any other two characters did this then shipping wouldn't even be a question. What is shown is Faith luxuriating in Buffy's body, she's not just having a bath. If this happened between Xander/Spike or Xander/Angel it would be shouted from the rooftops as cast iron evidence of their ship.
Same with Fuffy, given what we've seen of Faith.

On the show I'd agree, but in the comics? I don't see any reason they couldn't embark on some sort of relationship that grows into something special and unique. It would have to be well-written but they've got plenty of interesting history/angst/issues to explore. And that can really only be done in a relationship.

More and more as the series goes on I've thought that, in the end, Buffy should end up with Faith (and vice versa)- simply because that's the pairing that makes the most sense thematically and dramatically. Buffy has always been deeply alone on some level (it's one of Joss's key themes- being surrounded by people but also feeling lonely) except with another slayer nearby.
Someone who could cope with Buffy's crazy life, watch her back but also go shopping at the mall with, have dinner with, do normal dumb stuff with. Yes, I'm aware that my ship is showing. 🙂

But I mainly like that Faith's redemption arc is separate from Buffy and her life, I like that Faith doesn't tragically regress that much around Buffy (Faith has her issues sure, but she's more than just 'the other slayer' when she turns up).
I like that more and more Faith thinks of herself as an equal to Buffy- somebody travelling her own path and can stand up to Buffy if and when its needed.
I like that their journey to adulthood mirror each other- Faith's emerging dark side in Season 3 and Buffy's in Season 5/6.

Plus it would be a perfect compromise for the Bangels and the Spuffys- neither gets the girl because redemption/fighting should be much more important than wanting to be with a girl you met. It should be about doing right because its right- and nobody illustrates that more than Faith. And she hasn't even massacred anybody in years...

The idea of Xander in Spike's body having a bubble bath is just...disturbing.And not in a good way.

I could see Buffy and Faith having the kind of relationship that Giles and Olivia had in the TV series, a sort of, "when we're together, we're TOGETHER," especially if they tried to keep it a secret from all the others, who knew, anyhow, but just let the Chosen Two think that they were bring so clever...

I could even see (don't get whiplash from rolling your eyes, now) Spike being downright amused by the whole charade, and wondering if he would be able to suggest a vampire sandwich without getting staked.

Great possibilities there for comedy as well as angst, and God knows, both Buffy and Faith could use a little laugh time, just to counter all of the darkness.

Disturbing yes, but if it DID happen that ship would would become a HUGE titanic thing.

And I do think that Xander would like to have those abs...*shudder*

Well, Spike would have a better chance than that other vampire of getting in on that (not just because of the curse)...but maybe he'd be a bit jealous as well- depends on the timing.

I think you're right and they would hide it though, at least at first. Just to spare poor Xander from having his other eye pop out.

That could work for both of them. I think that Buffy might be badly in need of a 'no-strings' good times thing with somebody that she could trust and wouldn't feel bad about simply being with.
Faith...well, Faith was BUILT for that sort of thing but I think she'd prefer something more meaningful with Buffy. But then again she could take what she could get.

Faith's obviously fulfilling a fantasy here, it was pretty obvious to almost everyone (except Buffy) that Faith was attracted to Buffy, but couldn't get her because of Bangel.

Haha poor Xander would want to have a Chosen Threesome. Considering he's already been with Faith and Buffy is one of his best friends , who knows -- maybe it would work out for him. 😀

I had a realization during my previous buffy/angel rewatch and I’m currently in the penultimate season of another buffy/angel rewatch and I just finished the episode that I realized this in, so that made me want to say what I realized before: Faith loves Buffy. I’m not talking about romantically. But it seems she does.

I realized this in the scene where she’s talking with Wood in empty places, and he says that Faith is scared for Buffy or something along those lines and it made me re-contextualize what Faith does in that episode: She turns on Buffy and goes for a vote to who is gonna be the leader.

At least, that’s what it seems like on the surface.

But what she actually does is she takes the weight off of Buffy’s shoulders.

It became more evident that this is what she does in my current rewatch. There are quite a few instances in that episode where Faith registers Buffy’s discomfort.

Faith knows Buffy, at least well enough to know that she doesn’t take people being killed on her watch lightly. So, she does the only thing that she can for Buffy in that episode: She plays the bad guy and she takes away something that she knows is making Buffy crack: Leadership. Buffy says that this was effecting her this way in the next episode. I think Faith saw that. And she makes that reference about the vineyard to get Buffy to hit her.

It was a very interesting revelation to come to after having seen that episode so many times.

Please watch that episode and tell me if you see that too.

The beauty of Faith/Buffy is that it can work on a lot of levels simultaneously- friendship, familial connection, slayer-ness, or attraction/romance. 🙂

I think the writers tone down the subtext in S7 but its still there.

That's partly it. I think Faith genuinely wants Buffy to 'take a siesta' because she see the strain of leadership on her. When Dawn is quizzing Buffy on how Xander is doing Faith sees how its upsetting Buffy and tells Dawn to knock it off. She takes the troops to the Bronze to make them feel better but also to take some of the pressure off of Buffy- the fact that it goes wrong thanks to some maniac cops isn't exactly her fault.

But I think Faith is actually surprised when Buffy hits her in the alley- I'm not sure it was a deliberate provocation, just unwise words- to Faith its not like Buffy to lash out physically during an argument, and that's why- when Wood talks to Faith on the porch that evening and he says that Faith is worried about Buffy- that it becomes clear that he's right on the money. Despite Faith dismissing it 'I think you should brush up on her Buffy/Faith history.'

Add to that the fact that Faith is the first one to stand up and say no to Buffy- to say that she maybe isn't thinking that clearly because of all the pressure- and her motives are clear. Concern not only for the Potentials but for Buffy herself.
Ultimately Faith is proved right, Buffy needed a break- in this case Spike giving her a cuddle- and she was a much better leader as a result.
Not that Faith gets any credit...
