Question In HIM, why is it BUFFY'S responsibility to find SPIKE housing?

Because he got a soul for her.

It's right there in the second episode. Spike got a soul for Buffy so she is now responsible for him so she has to take care of him. That's evidently her thought process all through season 7.

And yes, its incredibly messed up.

Even directly weaponised against her in Get it Done when she calls him out on being a bit useless at that point and he lashes it back at her ‘the soul the changes it’s what you wanted’

Except Buffy at not one single point from S2-6 voiced that she believed Spike was capable of any change or ever mentioned the possibility of him getting a soul - voluntarily or otherwise

Or when she’s investigating missing women that track back to him and he acts like him talking to these women is because of her ‘I talk to them because I can’t talk to you’ erm mate you tried to rape her you’re lucky she even can bare to be in your presence never mind be available for heart to hearts

Ahem, did she not say that Spike was 'convenient' post-Smashed shag? Who could she have been referring to? Angel is who. Another vampire, with a soul, that she loved before.

Y'see, Spike knew what she wanted before even Buffy herself knew, it's the crux of their beautiful story. It's all about believing without knowing or something, um, understanding without communicating? Eh, Trusting without seeing? The new post-modernist way of things.

C'mon, didn't you feel just a little kernel of something eternal and wondrous when he accused her of being jealous because she was following him around? I know that's exactly what I'd say to somebody I couldn't talk to because I'd brutally assaulted them in their own home; accuse them of stalking....

Of course, Spike actually went to get his chip out. But the First got to the demon and had it stick a soul in Spike. Then the First brainwashed Spike into thinking he got a soul for Buffy and sent Spike to her. That way, instead of staking Spike, he became a burden on her, undermining her relationships with those she could count on.

However, W&H got wind of this and weaponised Spike. They used his obsession with Buffy and willingness to do almost anything to sleep with her again to destroy the First's plan and make Buffy, now almost completely ineffective, irrelevant.

I mean Buffy is a draftee in a supernatural war, who allowed the supernatural side of herself to take over the non-supernatural. Losing out on a daylife, sacrificing her own life for a sister that shouldn't properly exist. Resurrected against her will. Both her major relationships ended while she was content with the status quo but her boyfriends left her, Angel because he thought it was better for her, Riley because he thought her feelings weren't sincere. Also she kind of had to be forced to confront her emotions a lot

I'm not sure Buffy and autonomy is something she achieved very often

A non-Slayer Buffy would likely have been like the students in her graduating class. Fought the one battle she had to to survive and then walked away never looking back
