It keeps changing around (im fickle) but at the moment mine is the following:

Set in a small town in Japan (will pick one at some point) and centered around a Slayer who has chosen to ignore her destiny. Set in the late 80s (because it was such a fun decade). I have ideas that im stringing together at the moment.

I need some input here. I'm having trouble with the "the slayer shall not kill humans" thing. It sounds like a strictly modern Western concept, and it won't fit into the story I want to write. Without giving away too much, there's a war going on during the time of my story, and she was actively involved before being called. It seems illogical, considering the culture I'm writing about, that she would immediately stop fighting in the war once called. What does everyone else think? How loose should I get with that particular scripture of the slayer canon? Remember, life in the past, especially in the cultures we are writing about, was cheap, not to mention, short, brutal and hard. Any input would be appreciated, but unless convinced otherwise, I'm continuing my story with the human slayage intact. War is hell.

Well - once she's called she wouldn't know straight away that she's a slayer would she? So she should keep fighting the war until such time that she would find out. I thought women weren't allowed to fight in wars. I guess it depends on the culture. 🙂

My short work ended up being set in early Shogunate Japan (as a result of reading some of the posts above - I hope I haven't pre-empted anyone else's fic - thanks for the inspiration) and is kind of experimental.

KD - I'm sure there's plenty of circumstances across the ages of slayers who didn't walk to the beat of the council's drummer or to society's norms. My take on this - be as creative as you'd like...

Personally, I don't think you have a problem KD. A Slayer killing a human wouldn't necessarily break canon. Buffy's done it.

Also the canon isn't that a slayer can't under any circumstances kill a human. It's that Watcher training and personal conscience appears to tell them it's wrong.

There's a trade paperback (TPB) called Tales of the Slayers. On the cover it says "From the Creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer". It's an anthology. Joss Whedon writes the first and last stories. Whedon writers write the other stories. Rebecca Rand Kirshner writes a story set in second world war Germany. In it the Slayer appears to kill a group of Nazis. Her thinking is that she is to kill the monsters, and there they are.

As long as the motivation is presented as to why the Slayer would ignore the canonical principals of Watcher training and personal conscience I don't see there being any conflict with canon.

Thanks for the kind words guys. I wasn't sure about this but you've made me feel a lot better.

BTW - while I was researching about haikus I found out that each should contain a word defining the season or kigo (besides the title😉). I think that Spring, Summer and Winter are reasonably easy to spot but a big Pointy No-prize to the member who can spot the kigo for Autumn and the spurious reasoning I used for it...

I think I got it..."sorcerers call"...a reference to Halloween, maybe? The usually inscruitable Mr. Pointy is even more inscruitable than normal with this one....😉
