In pylea what was the covenites ultimate goal?

I was just thinking how we know that the covenite wanted cordy to komshak with the groosalog so as to pass her visions, but why? What purpose was this for, if they wanted to use the visions to help people, which is unlikely as they seemed evil, then they could have left them in cordy.

The only reason i can think of is if they didnt actually want to use the visions they just wanted cordy to not be able to use them, which seems unusual but when you consider the fact that they had connections with wolfram and hart then this seems less unusual. This is simply because we know that cordelia having visions and therefore angel having a connection to the PTB does not serve the interests of W&H, with some exceptions.

So does my reasoning seem correct?

I don't so, because in Season 3 Groosalug still wants the visions even though he's not working for/with the Covenant anymore. (Right?)

I dunno... it DOES seem like you're onto something, but some of the details need to be clarified a bit further.

I don't think that Groo necessarily wanted the visions in season three. He wanted to be with Cordy and was willing to take on the visions as a side effect of that but i certainly don't think he was interested in gtting the visions for any other reason.

As for what the Covenant wanted with the visions, that was never really specifically dealt with. The fact is that the PtB would most likely be aware of the change from Cordy to Groo and that Groo was under the control of demonic forces so in all likelyhood they would probably have stopped sending the visions anyway, if they were not going to be of any use to their champion, in this case Angel. Therefore the Covenant would have to have another reason for wanting Groo to possess them.

Perhaps they believed that the power could be corrupted to their ends somehow, or even turned against the PtB. Maybe they simply felt that something as powerful as the visions was not meant for humanity and would rather see it contained in a being they could manipulate. It is just one of those plot details we will probably never know the complete answer to.

^ Yeah, I think ultimately the Covenant figured that by taking away powers from a seer (who has a champion attached to him/her), they'd be making a move against the Powers That Be. And, as The Watcher was saying, they could easily control Groo.

Right, but keep in mind that the powers never actually intended for Cordy to have the visions. Doyle made the call to pass them to her, which fit into Jasmine's plan and I'm sure the Covenant thought fit into theirs. The powers don't interfere much in the battle, so there's no way to say for sure they'd stop sending the visions once Groo got them. I think the Covenant wanted to have the visions for themselves as knowing what was going to happen in the future, even confined to people in danger from supernatural forces would be an advantage. But of course, also, as you said, it could just eb they wanted to keep the visions from those who would use them for good.

I agree though, we will probably never know for sure. I tend to think that the writters wanted us to believe that the visions passing to Groo was a bad thing, and didn't feel the need to gvie us any other details.

i think thats basically it. maybe they thought they could turn the visions to their advantage. clearly they have dealings with wolfram and hart, and most likely the senior partners.

it may be that they didnt understand how the visions worked. maybe just thought cordy could see the future. not just specific things. which i could imagine would be very useful to the bad guys!

Ultimately it was about the control of the visions. Whether or not the PtB chose to continue sending them once Groo was the conduit didn't really matter. As long as the Covenant controlled the bearer of the visions then they knew that a powerful tool for the champions of good was lost to them, which was only going to help the forces of evil.

Ok this is complete speculation, but the person who has the visions is connected to the PtB's, Isn't there an ep in angel where they try to use that connection in reverse(I am totally blanking on that, I think I remember it!) Maybe they wanted to use it somehow like that?

I'm guessing you mean this from That Vision Thing.

Angel walks into Cordy's bedroom to see her lying on the bed with Lorne sitting beside her.

Lorne: "Ah. His royal badness. Just in time. Would you talk to this young lady? She's resisting the process."

Angel: "Process?"

Wesley: "Oh, my idea. The host reads people's auras to set them on their path. In some shape or form that connects him to the Powers That Be. I'm thinking...."

Angel: "Sure. He might be able to reverse the process. That he might be able to use Cordelia in order to trace the call back to the Powers."

Your idea would definately hold up to consideration. If Lorne had been able to do what they were attempting then there is no reason that the Covenant could not get another of Lorne's race to do something similar. It's a pity that we never actually found out whether that was possible or not, due to the visions that Cordy was getting at the time not actually coming from the PtB.
