ummm, just thought I'd share my fic called 'In the Spotlight'

It's an AU Spuffy and rated PG-13

I don't own anything, I just borrow

chapters Prologue-2

Prologue

When your famous, you can't just go outside for a walk or go to Wal-Mart and grab your groceries. You have to either be very sneaky or be willing to be bombarded with fans asking for autographs or photos.

Some actors don't mind it. Some are happy to stop and give autographs. They want to make people's day a little better, just by writing their name.

Everybody thinks being famous would be the coolest thing ever. It's almost everybody's dream. Sure, they say they want to be an astronaut or a doctor, but deep down, they want to be that person everybody adores.

Just imagine it, standing on the red carpet, everybody screaming your name. Flashes of cameras going off all around you. Seeing yourself in a magazine, next to a picture of Tom Cruise.

Maybe that's what everybody needs. Fifteen minutes in the spotlight, just to get a taste.

Then you will find out being famous isn't what it's cracked up to be. You have to deal with being judged and to being watched every moment.

Never knowing if a person loves you because your famous or because they actually love you. Hell, being in love is hard enough, but now you have to worry that the person you love only loves you for money.

The worst feeling in the world is finding out that the someone you love with all your heart, doesn't love you back.

Sometimes, just sometimes, you get lucky.

Chapter One-Chance Encounter

Twenty-four year old Buffy Summers was walking down a LA street, cell phone in hand and sunglasses perched on her nose.

Sure, she looked like an average person strolling down 2nd street, but she was Buffy Summers the three time Oscar and two time Academy Award winner. She had starred in a hit TV show, Misfortunes. She had loved the show, but after seven years, she left. Looking forward to bigger things.

Now, a year after Misfortunes ended, she had already had starred in the movies Somewhere In Between, Without You, Your All I Wanted, and Redemption.

"No, I'm telling you Will, I can't make Jay Leno. I have to go promote Broken on the Sharon Osbourne show." Buffy informed her manager, and best friend, Willow Rosenberg.

"Wait...your saying you'd rather go to the lower rated Sharon, then go to the high rated Jay Leno?" Willow asked.

"Sharon's more fun to talk to!" Buffy pouted.

"Buffy, you do realize its about promoting your movie, not having fun right?"

"Why can't I do both though?"

"As long as you realize you would have more of an audience if you went to Leno."

"I do...Can I go to Sharon?"

Willow sighed. "You know I can't stop you."

"Yes!!" Buffy said in victory. "I promise I'll promote it extra hard!"

Buffy took a sip of her coffee that she had in her other hand. "Your gonna have to get me some sugar when I get to the set Will. I got no sleep last night, and this early call doesn't help any."

"Okay, I'll get you sugary goodness."

"Thanks."

Buffy rounded the corner and ran into someone. She fell back and hit the ground with an 'umph'.

Her coffee flew and spilled everywhere. She groaned. Cell phone still in hand, she put it back to her ear. "I need some coffee too. I gotta go, Will. Bye."

"See ya."

Buffy looked up to see a man with bright blonde hair and a black leather duster. He said, "I'm so sorry" and put his hand out to help her up.

She gratefully took it and he pulled her up.

"Oh, no problem. If I wasn't blabbing on my cell, I'd probably seen you." she replied.

When she was standing, he got a good look at her face.

His eyes widened. "You're Buffy Summers!"

She quickly clamped her hand over his mouth and looked around to see if anyone had heard him. She sighed in relief when she realized no one had. She was surprised no one noticed her before, but when someone yells her name out, someone's bound to hear it and come running. She was already running late, she didn't have time for autographs.

With her other hand she put one finger over her lips. He nodded, so she slowly took her hand off of his mouth.

She laughed softly and pointed her finger at him. "You are so lucky mister."

He smiled. "Sorry. 'S not everyday I run into a celebrity."

She almost melted when she heard his accent.

"Yeah, and it's not everybody that I run into someone that doesn't start screaming when they see me."

She didn't know why she was even still talking to him. Usually, when she ran into fans, she'd either sign whatever they wanted and run off or she made the excuse she had to get to the set.

He was thinking on the opposite end of the same thought. He figured she was going to something important and didn't know why she hadn't run off. Not that he was complaining.

He smiled. "Okay, I'm gonna ask you something cliché and sort of forward. And I know I'm going to sound like some fanboy, but...would you like to go out sometime? I could repay you for that coffee that I made you spill."

Buffy smiled. She heard this from strangers almost everyday, but this guy really seemed nice and honestly, she was interested.

She paused slightly and said, "Okay, but I need to know your name and I'll only go on the grounds that you will treat me like a person, not a celebrity."

"Name's Spike and deal."

She laughed slightly. "I can't believe I'm doing this."

She looked through her purse until she found a pen. She grabbed his hand and wrote a phone number on it. "This is my cell number. If you give it out to anybody. The date's off."

" 'kay."

"I gotta go. Call me later tonight and we can arrange that. Bye."

"Bye."

She walked down the street, leaving a very, very happy Spike.

As soon as she walked onto the set, Andrew, Willow's assistant, handed her a cup of coffee.

"Thanks."

He scampered off and she took a sip. She looked around and saw Willow talking to her co-star Cordelia Chase. Buffy walked over to join them.

"Hey Buffy!" Willow greeted.

"Hey. Hi Cordy."

"Hey."

Willow handed Buffy a Hershey chocolate bar. "Sugar!"

Buffy's eyes widened and quickly took it.

Willow and Cordelia continued to talk and Buffy ate, occasionally throwing in a comment.

"Summers! Come to the dorm set!" came a voice over the intercom.

"Already? I just got here." Buffy asked Willow.

"We're running behind. Anya hasn't even shown yet. So, Wesley's in a panic. Angel's been here for a while, waiting for you so you two can do your scene." Informed Cordelia.

Buffy sighed and made her way to the set she was suppose to be at.

The director, Wesley, rushed past her. "Someone call Anya's cell. We need her to do the supermarket scene!"

When Buffy reached her destination, she saw Angel Michaels sitting on a prop chair.

"Hey. Sorry I'm late."

"Buffy! Finally, Wes was going crazy."

"And this surprises us?"

"No. Not really."

After the encounter, Spike made his way home.

As soon as he walked in, he saw his roommate Xander Harris, about to leave.

"Adams! Finally!"

"Sorry, Harris. Where you headed?"

"To look for you."

After a beat Spike said, "You will never believe what happened to me ten minutes ago!"

Chapter Two-Oscar Mayer Wiener

Buffy ran down a LA street the next day.

'Oh, god. I'm gonna be late!'

She rounded the corner and dodged several people.

She reached the coffee house and walked in.

Out of habit, she pulled the baseball cap she had on down, to hide her face.

She glanced around the room and automatically saw the bright blonde head.

She walked over to a waitress and requested to see the manager.

After she talked to the manager, she received permission to use a table in a back room, so she wasn't bothered with people surrounding her. Well, after she signed autographs for his daughters, niece, and mother.

Buffy walked over to Spike and placed her hand on his shoulder. He looked over his shoulder and saw her wave for him to follow her.

Spike pulled the seat out for her.

She smiled as she sat. "You didn't have to do that."

He sat and smiled. "It's what I do."

Their was a brief silence.

"So, you got us a private room, I must be special."

Buffy laughed. "Yes, very special...So how many people know you met me?" She smiled.

"Well, let's see. There was my mom, my dad, grandma, aunt, hmmm, oh and the Pope!"

"Never knew the Pope cared."

"Yes, he was very fond of you in Misfortunes. Don't worry, the only person I told was my roommate Xander."

"Okay, that I can deal with. But, he's not gonna go tell Star or anything, right?"

"No, he's very reliable."

There was another silence. Buffy groaned and Spike raised his eyebrow. Buffy pointed behind him.

Sure, enough there were 3 guys staring through the window pointing.

Buffy put her head in her hands. "God, sometimes I just wish..." she trailed off.

"Wish what?"

"That I was an Oscar Mayer wiener?" offered Buffy.

Spike smirked. "Everybody already loves you."

"It's just...sometimes I wonder what I was thinking. Being an actress, I should've known better."

"It's what you love to do."

After a beat she said "I love to write, not act."

She lifted her head, only to see Spike's surprised look.

"Don't get me wrong. I love to act, but ever since I was little, I wanted to write. Become a great author that everyone knew about. I wanted to make an impression on the world by writing books no one would ever forget."

"Why didn't you?"

"My mom was in financial trouble. I was 15 and wanted to help. I took the first thing I saw, which happened to be Misfortunes."

She sighed. "How do you do that?"

Spike looked confused. "How do I do what?"

"Make me feel at ease, make me spit things out. I shouldn't be telling you these things."

"Sorry?" offered Spike.

For the next hour, they talked about everything and everything. But, now it was time for Buffy to go back to set.

They stood up.

"What are you doing tomorrow?" asked Spike.

"Um, an Ashlee Simpson video...but I'll be done around 5."

"I'm gonna take you out for an actual date tomorrow at 8. What hotel are you staying at?"

"Um, I'm not sure. It's on 6th street though."

"Okay, be waiting outside, I'll pick you up at 8 sharp."

"Are you asking me or commanding me?"

"Commanding."

The next day
7:55 pm

Buffy was wearing a red silk shirt and a black frilly skirt that went to her knees. She had been out on the sidewalk for 5 minutes. She felt just like a thirteen year old waiting for her date. She had butterflies and was trying her hardest not to get sick.

She didn't understand why he made her feel that way. She had been around gorgeous guys before. I mean, she was close friends with Brad Pitt, how more gorgeous can you get? But, Spike was the only one who made her feel great, comfortable, and human. He didn't treat her like a celebrity, which was nice.

A black mustang pulled up infront of her. The window rolled down.

"Ready, love?"

"Yeah."

Spike opened the door from the inside and she slipped inside.

"Nice car." she said.

"Not mine. Borrowed it from my friend."

Buffy laughed. "So, I'm special now?"

"You've always been special."

She lowered her head and he began driving.

"You look great, pet."

"Thanks. You too."

He had a regular black suit on, no tie, and, boy, did he look sexy in it.

They made it to the restaurant in silence and Buffy was surprised when the arrived. They were at Optimus, a very expensive place. She wasn't expecting that.

He stopped the car and got out. He went to the passenger's side and opened the door.

He offered his hand.

She took it and stood up.

They walked into the restaurant.

'Here we go...' they both thought.

Well done, young lady.

It's always a kick to read about these characters, written from a slightly different perspective. You pull it off well.

I'm interested to know how this tale proceeds from here.

Please continue.
