I think myself that Tara was better with them both than Oz did. At times I think the main reason Xander like having Oz around
was because he felt outnumber by all the women around him .

I think Dawn over Anya, just because Anya was technically just Xander's girlfriend/fiancee and I didn't think she integrated as anything other once that was over. At least Tara felt close to other people besides her girlfriend, but she wasn't in it long enough to qualify, so I'm saying Dawn.

Spike was only after Dawn. She was his ticket into the group (along with getting a soul).

Certainly Dawn was loved by everybody from the beginning; but in S5, she was a whiny child, in S6 a lost teenager, and only in S7 she was part of the group who fought evil.

In S8, she was away, pursuing a normal life, and returned only because the circumstances demanded; in S9, again she wanted to stay away from the fight (if memory serves, she even denied shelter for a fugitive Buffy) and in S10, she is back helping, but still pursuing that so called normal life.

Dawn is family - and for Buffy even Andrew is now - but if you think of the Scoobies as a work group that is dedicated to fight evil, Anya and Spike (in S10) fit better.

The four core are another case, they have a special bond since the beginning.

I baffled by how many people are saying Anya. To me, Anya was never really accepted by Willow or Buffy. It always felt like they just tolerated her.

I once heard a caller on a radio show say something that is the gosh darndest truth. She was about to begin her story and she said "You know how you have that friend you hate..." Bingo! So many of us have that friend that we sorta hate, yet, there they always are and somehow are always included, even though they annoy us, even though everything. And sometimes, turns out that we can even rely on them for some things.

I think that Anya was that friend that Willow and Buffy "hated". You just accept them for who they are and they they're part of your group and that's that.

I personally consider anyone who fought along side Buffy and put their life on the line in the face of evil a Scooby. Yes, even Spike in certain situations.

From most considered a fifth Scooby to least (in my opinion):

Dawn
Spike
Tara
Anya
Oz
Riley
Angel
Andrew
Kennedy
Faith

I would have put Riley in there since he had a totally different mind view than everyone else . That why i wouldn't put him in there.

Sure.

In the comics, the New Magic has the same opinion: when Willow cast the spell protecting the book, she said that the only people to have free access to it was "us" - and Andrew was included.

I'd agree with this in general- maybe swap around Tara and Spike since Tara had shared moments with Xander, Giles and Buffy, not just Willow.

Sad to realise that Faith comes below friggin' Andrew, but that's the comics for ya. 🙁

Same here . I think it sad myself that Andrew comes in over Kennedy which is funny since I don't like her that much.

I would say definitely Dawn. She was the only one really close with all the scoobies, and her eventual research skills were actually pretty useful. After that I would actually say Oz. No he wasn't there the whole time, but when he was to me he felt the most a part of the group. He was friends with everyone, and he was pretty useful. Anya, Cordy, Tara, Angel, and Spike all have certain things keeping them back. Anya was probably the most useful out of the girlfriends, but she was never properly liked or accepted by the gang. Tara was eventually close with some members, but she still always felt like an outsider, and didn't really do much. Cordy was also never a proper part of the gang. Neither were Angel and Spike. Out of pure usefulness I would say Spike and Anya, but the whole package Dawn, then Oz.

I would also say Kennedy is very useful, but not close with the group

Nice summation
I have to agree with you there . All of it but also the part about Kennedy as well.
