I never really had restricted TV viewing when I was young. I was allowed to watch basically anything but then again I never really watched anything too 'extreme'.

I remember staying up on a Friday night watching Tales From The Crypt and Freddie's Nightmares on Sky 1. Never really watched X-Files as a kid. I only remember a part of an episode where there was a guy sitting in a wardrobe and his head was covered in ears or something, I could be wrong about that and the show :/

Another thing was watching Stephen King's IT when I was 10. The kids in the first half of the TV special were the same age as me. Lets just say I stayed away from storm drains and had to plug up the shower for a long time.

Um, when I was in the approximate ages of 6-7-8, I watched Poltergeist III. Guys, if you know of any kids in those ages I don't recommend you letting them watch this movie. I had nightmares for months.

When my brother and I were young, our babysitter would watch Married...With Children and we would try and sneak a peek. But that was because it was forbidden.
 
Not a tv show, but I watched Scream when I was about 12. In hindsight, not a great idea.

I used to watch this show about true life accounts of ghosts and paranormal activity on a Friday night when I was about 10 because a girl in my class did. It would be terrifying for me to watch now, let alone then.
 
There were lots of movies that I watched when I was younger. For example Kill Bill, Braindead or The Evil Dead.

With TV shows it's often the other way round. A few days ago, me and my brother (he's 22) watched a SpongeBob marathon on TV 😀
 
Seeing all of your posts I realize how many shows I've watched when I was 6,7 that really were not suitable for my age. I'm surprised I'm not emotionally scared.

I forgot one thing. I used to watch V.I.P (Valerie Irons Protection).. I guess that was really inappropriate for my age. What was I thinking back then?

100% agree! I watched Trainspotting when I was about 9 years old and it was really eye opening for me. I've never touched hard drugs despite my wild life and I think it's partly because I found Trainspotting so disturbing.

I also have a strong memory of watching some psychological horror movie at about 10 years old and being terrified to sleep!

I loved that my parents didn't wrap me in cotton wool.
 
When I was very young (like under 11) the worst thing I guess I watched was South Park and shows and movies like X-files. After I hit 12 or 13 though, I couldn't really consider anything on TV worse than what I heard/saw/learned in school. I still remember when I was around 13 and my mom would say 'damn' or something like that then look at me and apologize. I would say 'What? My teachers say worse things than that and you don't even want to know what I hear from my friends.' 😛
 
Yeah, I grew up in Argentina, where the rules of what is appropriate are a little different... For example, there can be nudity on public television, as long as it's after 10 at night. Thankfully nobody told me that until I'd moved away, but I can see how that would have caused some serious damage.
 
I was about 6 when I saw Futurama for the first time. I didn't really understand any of it, so that turned out okay. I didn't see it again for years and years...

i saw Nightmare Before Christmas the first time when I was two, but I don't think of that as inappropriate... Just really, really AWESOME. Elmo Says Boo! scared me way more than that anyway. xD

I didn't really see anything else inappropriate though... I liked kids' shows way too much to mess with "boring, old grown-up stuff".
 
My parents never had any rules of what I could and couldn't watch, they let me watch the movie Deliverance when I was like 7. and lot's more..
but I don't think anything I watched when I was younger was inappropiate for me.
I don't understand why it would be ?
 
I didn't have a television until I was 14. My dad was friends with one of the neighbors though, and usually we'd go down one week a night to watch TV. Really the only show I remember watching was the Incredible Hulk with Bill Bixby. Back then you didn't get cable in the country so we were completely limited by what could be picked up by the antennea.

With my own kids, yes, there are shows I like to watch that I prefer they don't watch like the CSIs and ones that show too much sexual content.
 
Vilse i pannkakan when I was a kid. Lost in the pancake in enlish. Sure it was supposed to be for kids but for decades it's been accused of screwing up a whole generation (So that's why I'm so weird?) hence totally inappropriate for me. 😉 The sound of the big potato was scary as hell. Well not really, especially not compared to what's on tv now. You'd all laugh at it and how stupid it was. But at a very young age the sound sure scared me. To my older sisters joy.
