Aired: October 6, 1997
Writers: Matt Kiene
Joe Reinkemeyer
Director: Ellen S. Pressman
Trivia:
- The band name on the drum kit for Oz's band is "Dingoes ate my Baby" and the Australian flag hangs over them, a reference to the Lindy Chamberlain Creighton case in Australia.
- First appearances of Seth Green and Danny Strong in the series.
- Both Nicholas Brendon and Ara Celi had to eat up to ten twinkies each for each take of the scene in which they are eating lunch.
- During this episode, Devon asks Oz, "What does a girl have to do to impress you," and Oz replies, "Well, it involves a feather boa and the theme to A Summer Place (1959). During the Season Seven episode "Him," every time a woman is mystically attracted to R. J., he appears to her to move in slow motion while the theme from A Summer Place plays in the background.
- Sitting in the library, Willow is holding a frog cuddly-toy, even though she has frog fear.
- This was the first episode since "Nightmares" without Angel in it.
- When Ampata agrees to go to the dance with Xander, he asks her if she's a praying mantis, a reference to the events of "Teacher's Pet."
Goofs:
- The mummified corpse in the chest seemingly turns itself around.
- We see the door to Buffy's house open from the outside swing in one direction. When we see the same door from the inside, it is very clearly hinged on the other side.
- Ampata applies lipstick in the bathroom, but a few hours later tells Buffy that she doesn't have any lipstick and needs to borrow some.
- As Willow and Xander do a walk-and-talk across the front lawn of Sunnydale High, two crew members with lighting gear come into view in the background past Xander's left shoulder.
- Explaining his costume for the cultural exchange party, Xander says: "I'm from the country of Leone. It's in Italy pretending to be Montana". But all Leone's western movies were filmed in Spain (mostly in Almeria region), pretending to be New Mexico (The Good, the Bad and the Ugly), Arizona (Once upon a Time in the West), or other States near Mexican border.
Best quotes:
- Xander: Your English is very bueno.
Ampata: I listen much.
Xander: Well, that works out well, because I talk much.
- Willow: Well, you know, I have a choice. I can spend my life waiting for Xander to go out with every other girl in the world until he notices me, or I can just get on with my life.
Buffy Summers: Good for you.
Willow: Well, I didn't choose yet.
- Willow: The non-violent approach is probably better here.
Buffy Summers: I wasn't gonna use violence. I don't always use violence. Do I?
Xander: The important thing is: *you* believe that.
- Willow: So, Ampata, you're a girl.
Ampata: Yes, for many years now.
Soundtrack:
- "Shadows" - Four Star Mary
- "Fate" - Four Star Mary
