Homo's can marry, lets extend the courtesy to brother/sister. Or brother brother!!

I mean, what two consenting adults do in the privacy of their own bedroom is nobody's business but theirs.

Right?!

I'm in a charitable mood tonight, because I'm going to see Cowboy X and Metric tomorrow and I plan to be drunk with my friends for a good 36 hours or so afterwards, so I'm going to ever so daintily let the general tone of your post pass, and assume you're trying to start a real discussion of the difference between a homosexual and an incestuous relationship. You're welcome.

First of all, an incestuous relationship can never have a healthy dynamic because it cannot progress beyond the established roles of related family members. The relationship established with your family is a relatively static one. Romantic relationships must offer both partners an equal, consensual role. This won't happen with say, a big sibling and a younger sibling, not really. Second of all, it may sound stupid, but the issue of inbreeding is a big one. I know this, because I once observed an incredibly disturbing, and totally in earnest, discussion between members of a certain forum and one member who was engaged in such a relationship. By God, was it creepy.

Incidentally, if we're going to have a discussion about homosexuality as a natural or unnatural impulse as opposed to incest, which feels like where this is heading, then I may have to disillusion you about the animal kingdom. And indeed, queendom.

I have a big brother lol and honestly i love him with all my heart and i'd do anything for him but thats all in a sisterly way, i mean i honestly couldn't think about him in any other way besides him being my brother... I couldn't imagine being in a romantic thing with him in any way

... but i mean you cant tell your heart who to love in what way.. so even though i personally couldn't do it, I cant really look down on those who can. I say if they wanna go for it they should. I mean who better to fall in love with then someone you know isn't going to hurt you on purpose.... Grant it i dont think they should have children together due to the whole hazard and all but if they wanna have a relationship and get married more power to them whatever makes them happy.

Well when it comes to the reproduction department there might be a problem with making the depth of the gene pool a wee bit shallow...

Took the words right out of my mouth...
Well... this is an interesting one.

Ok... my first reaction would be ewwwwww... followed by a very disgusted look and possible vomiting. In fact, I posted a thread about this a couple of years back, lol. A lot of people posted replies to that thread and forced me to think about it a little bit more. Upon re-awakening this topic in my mind I was taken all the way to Walford and the whole Sharon/Dennis relationship. OK... so they were half brother and sister but it's the same thing. And they had only just met but it's still the same principle. I then realised that there may be some situations where this sort of thing is acceptable. If you think about it... there are always exceptions to everything. Plus... everyone should be allowed to do their own thing as long as both parties are consenting (of course). So I have no desire to be with my sister in that way... but if I did and she did too... we'd want to be accepted.

yeah, i think they thought they were for a while.
Epo, Sharon and Dennis weren't related. Sharon was adopted. and anyway, who would turn down Dennis anyway! yum!

as for the whole matter, i personally couldn't do it. my brother is 5 years younger than me and i could never EVER think about him that way.
but, on saying that, as wrong as this might sound, i do actually know a brother and sister who did just that, and produced a child. not only were they brother and sister, they're twins. but as far as i know, the child is fine, no serious health problems or anything. but my entire community went a little nuts when they found out, and the couple and their child had to leave the area.

Ok... so they weren't actually related but they thought they were... right? That's the point I was trying to make there...
Theoretically, I can see how incest could be accepted. Say, if you didn't have a brother/sister relationship with your brother/sister. For instance, if you – like in some soap – just ran into them without knowing you're related, it wouldn't be weird if you developed that kind of feelings etc. Probably shouldn't have (biological) children though.

Seems disturbing if you grew up as siblings though. Or if you – like Joamna and me – didn't actually grow up together but have formed a sibling kind of relationship later in life. (People suggestion the two of us have sexual tension are nuts and have obviously never met us irl, lol..)

However understanding I might be though, I don't think it's right to compare incest to homosexuality. It's a completely different thing, and I'm too tired to get into the gay discussion – even in an unserious way.. (I'm having a bad day/month though and shouldn't post in threads like this one..)

oops, KD's right, Epo! sorry, i was in a rush when i wrote that! please accept my apology!
First of all my intial reaction to this is *Yikes*
Second the gene pool between siblings is very close so the possibility of the child being deformed is high, although as Lyri pionted out not necessarilly in some cases.
Thirdly, the idea that two siblings are romantically involved is just wrong!
It disturbs me.
I really thought there was a hint of sarcasim at one piont, till i read the whole of Dhugs post!
Are you saying that inevitably that is where society will head? Letting siblings marry etc?

I can't be bothered replying properly to this thread, but you're all making a fundamental error in your reasoning which I find quite disturbing.

Incidentally, if we're going to have a discussion about homosexuality as a natural or unnatural impulse as opposed to incest, which feels like where this is heading, then I may have to disillusion you about the animal kingdom. And indeed, queendom.

Unfortunately your original assumption was wrong, and with that the rest of your post (which was also filled with errors) fell apart.

That you want to twist the discussion because you are seemingly blessed with some knowledge that will shock and astound me is quite hilarious.

Have you seen the film Cruel Intentions? There is a line SMG says when she is lying across the bed, "you can put it anywhere". These words just happen to play on loop inside the minds of all animals. And funnily enough they do...put it anywhere. Think of a place, some animal has rubbed its little pecker there for a moment of pleasure.

Animals also force themselves on other animals, I guess we'd call that rape, huh?
Animals also kill other animals, I guess we'd call that murder, huh?

You want to argue nature, then make the distinction and conjure up a better argument. I have.

Are you saying that inevitably that is where society will head? Letting siblings marry etc?

No idea, interesting question, though.

Way I see it, if a Brother and sister or whatever grouping wants to get it on, leave em be. If they wanna get married and have children fair play to them and here is why....they are taking themselves right out the Gene pool.
Heck it may take a generation but who the heck cares. I don't wanna see it, I don't wanna do it but then again I don't wanna do alot of things that go on.

As for the poster who said about not thinking about their brother in that way, well thats fine. I know I couldn't think of many people in that way.
I know tons of people who couldn't think of someone of the same sex that way......just because you couldn't doesn't make it an argument against.

Pah, look at the ultimate perk....you only have to invite one family to the wedding.

Ha ha.. totally. That would just cut the bill for the reception right in two!
I remember the thread from a few years back too and my opinion didn't change since... you can't choose who you "love"... so just let them be if they want to be together... they're not doing any harm... as long as they don't plan on having children together though... cause that'd be harming the child they'll have as we know that inbreeding often leads to misformation or diseases... it wouldn't be fair...

On the nature of their relation though, I think it's not the most natural relationship, for bro and sis who grew up together... because they know each other from birth, and it's like they don't wanna take risk with new people, they prefer to stick to who they know (subconsciously at least) because it's less scary and comforting...
Well at least that's what I think. :silly:

Even though I agree with the fact that you can't really help who you love I still think that incest is kinda wrong...I mean there's a reason animals and plants instinctively avoid incest and it's not moral because moral is human concept...well it's only my opinion and it's not my job to tell people how to live their life.

I won't totally go against this, but I'm not following it either. I personally think incest is disturbing, but I can't help it, it's just always seemed that way to me. I have a younger sister (huge age difference, but still) and there is no way I would ever think about her in that way. It just feels gross... and wrong. But this is my opinion, and I tend to stick with my opinions.

And there is the fact that it wouldn't be accepted by many people, even if there were rights. Obviously, same with homosexuals, so I guess I may sound pretty hypocritical in this scenario. I guess if we had a vote, I would vote no, because it feels wrong to me.

I mean there's a reason animals and plants instinctively avoid incest and it's not moral because moral is human concept...

Show me the research that says Animals instinctively avoid incest please.
Fact is there are animals out there that do have incestuous relations, there are animals out there that eat their own young, there are animals out there that blah blah blah.

As an animal society ourselves I honestly believe that what the other animal societies do bares no relation to what we as a human grouping does.
We have conciousness, we have the ability to determine between right and wrong.
I have no want at all to go into an incestuous relationship, but it affects me on NO level if two consenting adults wish to have sex and they happen to share familial blood.
Let them deal with their own moral and ethical issues in that, I have my own concerns that frankly I deal with and is of no one elses concern.

Well I wouldn't really care about same sex insest, althought I woud find it totally gross, but to each their own.

But I think members of the opposite sex who are related definetly shouldn't be together, cuz there is the possibility of children (Accidents happen!!) and it wouldn't be fair to that child, as insest can result in genetic mutations. Which I think is also natures way of saying it is wrong!
