Tru Calling: Perfect Storm

The spoiler season has officially begun! Information on episode 2.1 of the series follows.

As expected, the first spoilers of the next season of 'Tru Calling' have arrived. It's an interesting mix, both attributed to the same episode, but seeming to have two distinctly different storylines. I believe what these may represent is not only the plot of the first episode, but possibly some new recurring characters.

Tru Calling: Perfect Storm (2.1)

This season, Tru is attending medical school, however it would seem that she is only auditing courses and not actually going full-time. At school, we meet what appears to be Tru's new group of friends (one of which is definitely going to be around for a while, the other two may be as well).

We have two young men, Jensen and Tyler. Jensen, who has just broken up with his fiancee, is more than a bit abrasive. He's also a little bit creepy and obviously very interested in Tru. His character should appear in several episodes this season. Tyler, who is in way over his head in med school, is on the verge of dropping out. Finally there is Avery, a young woman who is a close friend with Jensen, and may harbor a little crush on Tyler. Avery is also more than a bit curious about Tru, and suspects that she has a secret.

Things have changed in the morgue as well, as Davis discovers when he heads out for his annual psych review. Instead of the old staff psychologist, he's surprised to meet Dr. Carrie Allen, a new addition to the staff. She's friendly at first, though grows a bit nervous at some of Davis's answers to her tests. It is also reported that we may have a new morgue attendant, to replace the now missing Jack.

The Day Resets

We meet Kate Wilson, a member of the harbor patrol. She and her partner, Matt, are returning to the dock when they see a man in a kayak in trouble. The kayak tips over, and the man doesn't reappear. Kate dives into the water, and rescues a very wet, Jack Harper. After they return to the dock, Jack thanks her for saving his life, making an excuse that he was practicing to beat his sister at a boating competition. Kate is walking off, when Jack calls her back. He explains that she isn't the first one to save his life, and turns on the charm quite a bit, and asks her out to lunch. She accepts, right as Tru arrives. Tru has already bumped into Kate, posing as a potential recruit for the harbor patrol. Kate begs off of her prior engagement with Tru, while both Tru and Jack act as if they've never met. Obviously, Kate is this week's victim. Tru comes on a bit too strong, and Kate decides to go with Jack. While she gets her things, Tru and Jack taunt each other about who will succeed. Jack seems to have the upper hand, as Tru can only watch as Kate goes off to lunch with him.

Tru calls Davis and tells him to figure out some way of keeping Kate from going out on the water that night. It appears she dies, while rescuing someone at sea during a storm. Davis, who has blown off his appointment with Dr. Wilson earlier in the day this time, is trying to figure out what to do. Carrie walks in right as Davis is placing a call to the Coast Guard, posing as an Admiral.

Tru tries one last time to keep Kate and Matt from going out on the water. However, nothing she can say will convince them. The boat heads out into the rough waters of the harbor, to rescue the stranded vessel. As they get further out, the storm continues to get worse, and Kate realizes that Tru wasn't lying about it being too dangerous. They are still going to continue ahead, when a Coast Guard Cutter radios, saying that they have the situation under control. Thanks to a tip from a certain Navy Admiral.

It would seem that Tru manages to beat Jack at his own game, or does she? At some later time, and I believe actually later in the season, we discover that Jack may have found a Davis of his own. During one of the sessions with Dr. Wilson, Davis explains to her everything that is happening, including Tru's secret. It would seem that Dr. Wilson is skeptical, but Davis also warns her that there are other players in the game. Very dangerous players, like Jack Harper.

Which makes it all the more surprising, when fresh off of Davis's confession, Carrie hooks up with Jack in a bar and spills everything that Davis told her. Because not only is she working with Jack, but she's his girlfriend as well.

So major spoilers for 'Tru Calling' right at the beginning. With the addition of the new characters, and no sign of Harrison or Lindsay in any of the information that I have, you have to wonder what role they will have in the new season. Still nowhere near enough information to really know for certain if this is going to be what happens, but it's been obvious to me, that some major reworking of the series was going to probably happen. The ratings, while enough to keep it going for another season, are nowhere near what Fox wants to see from the show. It's going to be very interesting to see what else is revealed as more spoilers start coming in.

That sounds rather interesting. Its about time we get some spoilers, and hopefully they will give us some more flashbacks or back story on Davis this season, because something tells me theres more than meets the eye with him.

Some of this information is wrong.

These spoilers are from casting sides. When casting recurring characters, they don't use just a scene from a current episodes. They write scenes for upcoming episodes so they can see how characters interact later on.

For example, in the casting sides for Luc, they had a romatic scene with Luc and Tru. That didn't happen in Luc's first episode, and it never was filmed for the show.

If you've seen Vincent's audition for Angel, it has a scene with Connor and Angel that never happened. It just showed them interacting as father/son rather than auditioning Connor with a scene of him being all crazed wild-child in the city.

The way the sides are written for all of these reoccuring characters, it's the same type of scenerio.

So, I doubt the plot with Dr. Wilson will all happen in one episode. It's going to be spread out. The medical school plot starts briefly in episode 1 (according to the casting calls) but those characters aren't really introduced until episode 2.

The sides for Matt and kate are what will happen in episode 1, and to me, it seems like fairly lame plot for a season premiere.

* 07/14 - The following are to complete the spoilers below posted on 07/10:
Tru pretends she wants to join the Harbor Patrol team. It seems it is to save someone
(Kate?). Has Jack planned his "drowning" in order to be saved by Kate and prevent Tru
from saving her? Tru sees Jack at the Harbor (he's making plans for lunch with Kate).
They pretend they don't know one another but, when Kate is not there, they are as nice
to one another as end of last season... Davis undergoes a Rorshach Ink Blot test when
meeting with Dr. Allen... things don't go superb... even on the redo day!

Dr. Carrie Allen is attractive, professional, and smart. She's the Morgue Psychologist
who is keeping tabs on the mental health of the employees at the morgue. Her first
"patient" is with Davis who is instantly smitten at the sight of her. Kate Wilson is
pretty and athletic. She is very committed to her job as a Harbor Patrol Officer. She
saves Jack after an emergency call reports a drowning man. Jack is appreciative, and
charmed by her and the two of them hit it off. Victor is the new morgue attendant. All
business, obviously intelligent with a mischievous humor.

Episode 2.02: Untitled
Airdate: Fall 2004

* 07/10 - Jensen is disarmingly handsome, and the best thing is, he really
doesn't know it. He is bright and funny with a sweet quality. He's probably the most
driven and talented of Tru's new cadaver team at Med School. Jensen is on the path
to becoming a top physician like his father. He's done nothing but study, leaving him
less experienced in the dating realm. But that pure quality and sweetness is what
attracts Tru to him. A life-changing event soon alters his personailty, unleashing a
darker more menacing side. Avery is a female, adolrable, smart and fun. It's an
instant bond when Tru joins her cadaver group at med school. Intelligent, extremely
observant and not afraid to tell it like she sees it. Quite loveable, she's completely
oblivious to the effect her bluntness has on others. Tru will come to find her honesty
refreshing. Tyler is a male, nebbish, smart and funny. Med school was probably
someone else's idea, he just made it in and is always hoping for an advantage.
Insecure, and a little defensive about it, he hasn't quite found himself.

* 07/10 - Tru attends medical classes. Tru talks with Tyler, a medical
student, about a test. He got 80% and she got 96%. He jokes about wanting to drop
out. Tyler and one of his friend, Avery, get kicked out of a hockey game. Tru inquires
a medical student named Jensen about his love life and problems. She tries to help
him but and he ends up liking her a bit too much...

Tru gets a phone call at the morgue from her father, who's asking about Harry getting a job. Tru's surprised that her dad has suddenly become Ward Cleaver.

The victim of the week, Kate, has died trying to save a college kids on a boat when a white squall hit. (it's a storm that comes out of nowhere and has been the subject of several movies). Kate is knocked overboard, her partner Matt nearly dies trying to save her, but can't.

I think its still suffering from same oldiness. I mean they've hashed it up with new characters but they'll become bland and fall to the way-side. When was the last time Merredith did more then attend a dinner? And to me she had character. I think they've given themself a problem here as what else is Tru going to do but go help people, they've stuck themself in a forumla rut that I don't think will be easy overcoming.

The problem is that the producers of Tru do whatever Fox says. Cameron isn't testing well, they ax him. Execs at Fox don't want Meredith or Gardez in the show anymore, they're gone. Fox doesn't like Luc & Tru, Luc's gone.

All of the new medical student pals is an attempt to change the show up a little and take it outside of the morgue. Instead of being a work-place drama, its now a college drama, since teens that watch the OC can relate to med students more than strange morgue workers. You never know if these characters will stick around, or if they'll have a constantly changing cast of med school people until some exec at Fox has some other brillant idea for the show.

The 2nd episode gets so repetitive too, since it's all about Tru being framed for a murder with the police after her. It's a ripoff of The Morning After and Consequences. How many times are they going to repeat the idea of Tru being blamed for killing someone? They're clearly running out of ideas and its the beginning of season 2.
