Welp, I'm midway through season 2 and I just watched this episode last night. I have to say, it's the best episode in atleast the first half of the season. So many pivotal things happen:

- The fallout of Angel losing his soul and the things he says to Buffy afterwards.. you can't help but feel for her. Basically, her heart is stomped on, and it's especially worse when you consider she gave herself to Angel the night before, he was her first, and he just disappears right after. Then when they do confront eachother, he acts, not like a evil vampire, just a male pig, but I think this hurts Buffy even more than if he just attacked her. It crushed her. Angel was right, "To kill this girl.. you have to lover her."

- Ms. Calendar's true identity is revealed.

- Cordelia/Xander's relationship is revealed to Willow and we get an immediate confrontation in the hallway at school. And later Willow sees Oz in a new light (after the talk in his van).

- The judge speaking the line, "What's that do?" when looking at the rocket launcher is comedic genius.

- Loved Buffy's response to her mom at the end. "So what did you do on your birthday? Did you have fun?" "I got older."

I must say, this episode is one of ones I think of when I defend SMG's acting chops to other people. I think she's excellent in it. I'm not an emotional guy, but her acting draws me into her sorrow deeply.

Oh, and I like Buffy's choice of a kick to the nuts to finish the fight with Angel. I guess it's because it felt like a good response for him ditching her after sex (her first time) and then saying all those things to her (before she knew he lost his soul).

I might have to watch this episode again before forging ahead with the rest of the season.

I loved the rocket launcher part also!
Innocence is one of the classics. I love it.

Angelus is so cruel to Buffy, it really hurts to watch.
- You got a lot to learn about men, kiddo. Although I guess you proved that last night.


I kinda feel bad for Jenny though, always liked her.
Despite that I still love to see Giles supporting Buffy.
Jenny: Is there something I can do?
Buffy: Get out.
Jenny: I just want to help.
Giles: She just said get out.


Absolutely adore the ending with Buffy and her mum and the "cake". Such a sad and sweet moment...

That´s one of my favourite Buffymoments, if not the favourite. Nothing says girlpower as a girl with a rocket launcher. 🙂 The music still gives me goose bumps. *goes to listen*
 
I think the scene that sticks out most as far as character building would be when Xander bluffed his way into the armory. It was his first real 'grown-up' moment.

I agree. I like that part for the same reason. Plus, I'm sure Giles felt used and maybe a little betrayed by Jenny.

Another good example of Giles supporting Buffy was later in the car when he was dropping her off. It was very similar to what a teenage girl might say to her father in the same type of situation (excluding the whole vampire/soul angle): "You must be so disappointed in me."

And he proceeds to just support her.

Just awesome dialogue/acting throughout this entire episode.
 
oh yes, how could I forget about that great moment.
- if it's guilt you're looking for, Buffy, I'm, I'm not your man. All you will get from me is, is my support. And my respect.

And like everyone else (I guess) I also love the "What's that do?" line. Hilarious.

This episode (as many others) shows the great balance between humour and sadness that BtVS has.
A huge reason why I think it's such a great show.

innocence i think is the episode that really makes buffy finally realise that she is the slayer and what it all entails, she has to give up her bf (for obvious reasons) and gets betrayed by jenny. She is coming into her oen a lot more starting from this episode. As it was said at the beginning a lot of things happen and a lot is revealed which makes it quite an important episode in this season.
I do love this episode especially what angelus says to the judge, 'you look spiffy' lol 🙂
 
This is one of those moments when you realize how much more you get out of Buffy watching it a second (and probably third and . . . ) time. At the end, when Joyce and Buffy are on the couch, Joyce strokes Buffy's hair. I immediately thought "Buffy and Dawn when Buffy is stroking Dawn's hair!"

Also when Buffy is crying on her bed has to be one of the most painful moments in the series.
 
This was a disappointing episode . . . especially the scenes that featured Angel's loss of his soul and Buffy's realization that he was now Angelus. I found it badly paced and anti-climatic.

I found "Innocence" to be absolutely heartbreaking, which was the point. Buffy curled up and crying on her bed just totally wrenches my heart every time I see it.
Angel turning evil in this episode was such a pivotal moment, I don't think it even needs saying...and I think it was portrayed well.

Plus, rocket launcher? 100% bad ass.

I also love how the episode ends with a big kick to the nuts for Angelus. It's such a primal, girl-power, what-every-girl-wants-to-do-to-the-jerk-guy-in-her-life moment, and I think it's perfectly suited for what Buffy's going through and how she feels. Better even than a staking.
 
My favorite Buffy episode, and the one where Sarah proved just how damn good she is. Great on every level if you ask me, and Oz got his moment to shine as well. "uh, arm. "
 
I really, really hated the Judge as a villain and that actor ANNOYS THE HELL OUT OF ME so that took a lot of enjoyment away for this episode. But other than that it's a good episode...I did like the rocket launcher, and the Buffy/Angelus stuff was good.
 
Top 5 episode to me, and has my favorite Buffy scene:

BUFFY: Where did you go?
Angelus: Been around.
BUFFY: Ohhh. Oh, my God! I was freaking out! You just disappeared.
Angelus: What? I took off.
BUFFY: But you didn't say anything. You just left.
Angelus: Yeah. Like I really wanted to stick around after that.
BUFFY: What?
Angelus: You got a lot to learn about men, kiddo. Although I guess you proved that last night.
BUFFY: What are you saying?
Angelus: Let's not make an issue out of it, okay? In fact, let's not talk about it at all. It happened.
BUFFY: I, I don't understand. Was it m-me? Was I not good?
Angelus: You were great. Really. I thought you were a pro.
BUFFY: How can you say this to me?
Angelus: Lighten up. It was a good time. It doesn't mean like we have to make a big deal.
BUFFY: It *is* a big deal!
Angelus: It's what? Bells ringing, fireworks, a dulcet choir of pretty little birdies? Come on, Buffy. It's not like I've never been there before.
BUFFY: Don't touch me.
Angelus: I should've known you wouldn't be able to handle it.
BUFFY: Angel! (teary-eyed) I love you.
Angelus: (points coolly at her) Love you, too. I'll call you.

wonder why they used Brian Thompson again to play The Judge?

He also appeared the 1st season, as The Master's vessel.

Seems to be the GO TO GUY to play monster/villians on scifi/horror tv series. He played the Alien Bounty Hunter on The X-Files as well.

The leader of the Brujah Clan Eddie Fiori in Kindred the Embraced. And too many other roles for me to list.

For me, this episode was a life changing moment for Buffy and one of SMG's best acting performances.
