[smartass mode] It implies connection of the color-sight gene with the gendered X-chromosome, as XX is more likely to be able to correct a mutation on one chromosome with an unmutated/undamaged other counterpart. In the XY combo, you'd only have the damaged one X with no potentially whole other X to correct it.

To an evolutionary psychologist, it might also imply the "men as hunters, women as gatherers" hypothesis, as fruit-eaters (= gatherers) gain much more from working color-sight than carnivores (= hunters)... being able to correctly ascertain the color (and thus, ripeness) of a fruit or berry gives an evolutionary advantage to gatherers, but not to carnivores.
