Interesting Passage on Charles Gunn

Back on an almost serious note for a sec.

I'm not going back to read that hack job, no matter how bad I need a laugh, but I seem to recall him or her describing Gunn's (or should I say Charles' 😉 ) inter-racial community group, as a "black gang", which leads me to question, who's really got the stero-typing problem here? I mean Gunn's multi-racial crew used to help Anne at the community centre, but that author guy saw Crips or something.

What is it about Jossverse fans that when it comes to gender issues, they are very serious on both shows. But when the topic of race comes up, they dismiss it in anger, outrage or with a joke. Why are so man of the fans touchy about race on the two shows?

Why? Because she complained about being a future Slayer? Or being dragooned into army without being asked by Buffy or Giles? Or for making a snide comment about Buffy, after the latter was responsible for getting her arm broken?

The hypocricy amongst the shows' fans are amazing. It's okay for Buffy to express such negative traits, but not recurring characters.
 
nerd4hire's point is actually quite sound. The "gang" that Gunn was a part of wasn't a giant violent sterotype-their sole purpose was protecting their neighborhood and those that lived there in any way possible, whether it be helping out at the community center or dusting some vamps. Gunn's gang is considered to be one of the good guys, and the writer of this essay's own views of a "gang" are a racial sterotype-not the show. The shows writer has never had a negative view of Gunn, the characters did sometimes, but that shouldn't reflect on the show's writers. They have just illustrated their view of the way society deals with race.

Here's a better question. What is it about some people that when they're losing a debate, they turn it into a session of personal bashing, by making blatantly untrue statements about the opposing viewpoint, and attaching an insult to it?

Why is that some people who are unable to deal with a certain topic resort to insulting the person who brought up the topic in the first place?
 
You're not being insulted. You're being told other members may find it offensive when you call them names like Hypocrite.
