Intervention and Spike Question

Something has always bothered me during this episode. I totally enjoy it, with its comedy and story arc progressing; spuffy, the key, and so on..

Here was my question..

Anyways, near the end Glory holds Spike hostage, tortures him, to get information from him, but he never says anything.. Afterwards, when all is well, and Buffy confronts Spike as the BuffyBot.. Either he has already told the BuffyBot before that that Dawn is the key or he does when she confronts him.. I don't see him as one to tell the BuffyBot who the key is, but I suppose he does/did.

What does anyone else think about that?

I don't think Spike told the Buffybot, but maybe he assumed that the Buffybot knew this? Personally I don't know why they would tell the Buffybot that Dawn was the Key; she was way too apt to share things, and she might blab to the wrong person.

I thought that he told the BuffyBot that Dawn was important to Glory? I could be wrong, but that's how I remembered it (or well, he told Buffy pretending to be the BuffyBot).

Still, faux pas or not, that's a great episode, and an amazing final scene. My favorite Spuffy moment actually.

I agree, it was a great scene, but I've always thought that it they cut it off too soon. Spike is lying there, obviously beaten to crap, barely able to move, Glory and her minions know where to find him, and having Buffy and the gang rescue him would only strengthen Glory's suspicion that Spike either knew where the key was himself, or was at least important enough to Buffy that he could be used as a bargaining chip.

"What you did for Dawn and me, that was real. I won't forget it," Buffy says, and then she marches away and apparently never looks back. If she were that god awful grateful, couldn't she have, at the very least have brought Spike some blood and hung around long enough for him to at least regained enough strength to run away if Glory came calling again? Glory still had, at that point, no knowledge about Dawn being the key, but she DID know that Spike knew, and that should have made him, especially in the shape he was in (more or less helpless) easy pickings for re-capture.

It's just always seemed to me that Buffy's gratitude didn't amount to much more than a kiss and a wave, ant then it was gone and forgotten.

I doubt Spike would have told Warren that so he could programme it, or even hinted at it. I also don't think the others told her. So maybe the Buffybot just assumed Spiked had the info and wouldn't give it up? It's been a while since I saw it.

I would highly doubt that he told Warren too. Yet, the so-called BuffyBot says that should could tell Glory, and Spike's reaction is suprised. In addition, Spike, pretty much tells "BuffyBot" back that if anything happens to Dawn it would be bad.. So, I feel like it could be one or the other, The buffybot knows, or spike said a bit too much, or I'm just looking into it too much. Hah. I was just rewatching the episode last night. Everytime I see this scene I always question it.. no rewatch has ever convinced me otherwise 🙂

Here is the dialouge..

BUFFYBOT: Why did you let that Glory hurt you?

SPIKE: She wanted to know who the key was.

BUFFYBOT: Oh, well, I can tell her, and then you'll-(turns to leave)

SPIKE: No! (coughs as she turns back) You can't ever. Glory never finds out.

BUFFYBOT: Why?

SPIKE: (quietly) 'Cause Buffy ... the other, not so pleasant Buffy ... anything happened to Dawn, it'd destroy her. I couldn't live, her bein' in that much pain. Let Glory kill me first. Nearly bloody did.

She frowns slightly, then leans forward and kisses him softly on the lips. Spike starts to kiss her back, frowns and pulls away.

Something that just occurred to me that we all seem to have missed. It wasn't the Buffy Bot in that scene, it was really Buffy, and certainly she knew who the Key was. The odds are, the real bot never had a clue what was going on between Spike and Glory. And if Spike hadn't just been beaten to crap, he would probably have realized that within moments after Buffy mentioned what Dawn was.

Yeah. I was suprised Spike didn't stop in his tracks when she mentioned the key. Why it took until the kiss to catch on. Because I highly doubt the Bot knew, but Spike acts as if she does, or maybe he is just too beaten up to notice.
