INTERVENTION

The Good;
Pretty good, nice to have some levity after the intensity of the past few eps. I love the Buffybot, she's so sweet and innocent and happy all the time. Spike's idea of Angel which the Buffybot voices makes me laugh out loud every time. Buffy and Giles in the desert is also good.

The Bad;
Rather than chase after Spike, Glory just stands there and lets the Scoobies get away?

Best line;
Glory (of Spike); What the hell is that and why is it's hair that colour?

Women good/men bad;

Jeez!;
Torturing Spike isn't nice

Kinky dinky;
Spike and the Buffybot 'lots of different ways'. Love her standing up when Xander knocks on the crypt door gag, you wonder was that SMG or her stand in? Note that even when the Buffybot is Spike's ideal woman he still wants her to beat him up before they have sex? The Key has to be pure? Does that mean if Dawn has sex with Kevin or RJ or whoever that means she'd be safe? Glory's negligee is also quite something. The Slayer forges 'strength from pain' according to the primitive which might explain Faith and Buffy's hints at S&M.

Captain Subtext;
Note when Spike has sex with the Buffybot he has her wear Buffy's black leather jacket, just like Angel's. The whole of the Buffybot's dialogue seems to be a satire on the Spikette's fawning over the peroxide one. Xanders description of Spike is rather vivid as Buffy observes and he also feels sorry for Spike having lost his sex toy. Buffy refers to her robot double as 'skirt girl'. Spike refers to Glory as whorish. Spike gets his first real kiss from Buffy.

Guantanamo Bay;

Scoobies to the ER;
Spike gets the bejesus beaten out of him but I doubt the ER would do him any good.

Missing scenes;

Apocalypses; 5,

Wheldon Cliches (with kind permission from Boo)

Questions and observations;
Very long teaser, important to recap what's gone before. Buffy feels guilty about how she's treated Dawn. Ben and Glory seem to be merging more and more. Boy is that the FATTEST puma you've ever seen? Tara comments that Will has surpassed her in magical terms. The beginning of Dawn's kelptomania. Note that just like April the Buffybot begins to break her programme, not staying in the crypt like she was supposed to. Hellmouth energy or is Warren not as clever/cleverer than he thinks? Or subconsciously WANTS his girl to be independent as Katrina was? Love the way Glory says 'Precious?', very LOTR, Xander also refers to hobbits. It seems Glory and her minions like TV, demons once again overcome by humanity. I read once that Bob Barker was a karate expert (he beats up Adam Sandler in Happy Gilmore "The price is wrong, bitch!")

Marks out of 10; 8/10

Small technical point: Barker studied Tang Soo Do with Chuck Norris, not Karate.
Oh, this episode made me laugh so hard. Xander was the best in this episode. And I did loved the BuffyBot, Sarah did such a wonderful job with her. The best scene is in the house with Buffy and BuffyBot 😀 It was hilarious 😀

9/10

It was the first selfless act done by soulless Spike and you didn't mention it. Don't worry, it was Sarah, not a double, in that scene. She really enjoyed having a master for a while.

You know I don't like soulless Spike 🙂 I like him when he's bad, so I don't really pay atention to him when he's all good and stuff.

I love Xander's description of Spike and Buffy's saying she's not having sex with him but now she thinks Xander is. lol This episode was a major turning point for Spike & Buffy; it was when she realized she could trust him. Maybe not in a traditional, human kind of way-but he'd have died (permanently) before he gave up Dawn, and now she knows it. That's significant.

The Buffybot is hilarious and disgusting at the same time. I think it's interesting to contrast Spike's interactions with it in this episode, v. in Bargaining at the beginning of season 6.

Sex & purity - must we consider one "impure" because they've had sex? Does sex really have anything to do with purity if you step outside of religion? I'm unconvinced.

My daughter requests this episode. She says, "I want to watch the one where Buffy treats Spike as precious."

Yeah Spike was great, loved the scene when Buffys pretending to be the bot. And Xander calling Spike compact and well muscled lol 8/10. I totally agree with OP's 'The Bad' bit, Glory just letting Spike escape, huh?! I loved Glory as big bad but she seemed like one big plot hole.

No offence but are you serious about the 'master' bit???????? I've heard that SMG didn't actually like the Spike/Buffy relationship much, she found it rather degrading.

I don't mean any offence to the Spikettes, they just remind me of Beatlemania sometimes. Where I did fight with them on the old Bronze was the rape scene in season 6 where they tried to excuse him but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
And yes, you're right, Spike resisting Glory's torture is a brave and noble act. I wouldn't say it's his first though, he saves the Scoobs from the 'invisible' demons in Family. Although you could argue that both are influenced by his Buffy obsession.
If anything was a selfless act it would be bringing flowers for Joyce?
As for the whole sexual purity thing, believe me i never judge people by their promiscuity or lack of it, I've met some lovely slatterns in my time and appalling virgins. But the Buffyverse definition would seem to sexual as 'Guise will be guise' proves

Paleyfest 2008
Sarah Michelle Gellar: (on the Buffybot) I think that's what keeps it fresh. You're playing a character for so long, and you don't want to get lazy and find yourself relying on certain things, so by taking away all the other parts of Buffy, I did have to find exactly the essence of her again, and... you know, it was fun to be his slave for a little while. (pointing at James)
James Marsters: Well, you got to be the master for a little while... (PaleyFest, 3-08)

WOW! Fanficcers dream come true! I'll add that info to my review of the episode. But shouldn't it be 'Well you got to be the MISTRESS for a little while?"

Great ep. I love the BuffyBot. She's so funny and her lines are so exact. I love how outraged Buffy is when the others didn't realize she was a robot. And of course, they're real kiss is beautiful. I actually cried the first time I watched it. It's so sweet!

I may be the only one but I hated the idea of the Buffybot. I just always found it more hard to believe that someone could make a robot that looks so much like a human, flawlessly, more than anything on the show. Other than that, I loved this ep though.

Really enjoyable episode. I get the sense its the beginning of Buffy slow admiration for Spike which grows as the seasons past by. Also love the line about Xander having sex with Spike :biggrin3:
