"Into Every Generation A Slayer Is Born. One Girl In All The World. Born With The Strength And Skill To Hunt The Vampires, To Stop The Spread Of Their Evil And The Swell Of Their Numbers."

if thats true then wouldnt all the potential already have the slayer strenght if they are born with it

I think it's a case of being born with it, but not having it activated until they are chosen.

Come to think of it, the whole thing is a little misleading. From Kendra we know that possible slayers have been trained in case they were chosen so that "Into every generation, a slayer is born" thing is a bit of a crock. There are serveral girls born with the potential but it all just depends on the calling.

But hey, everyone's activated now huh?

maybe when the chosen slayer is activated, then she is kinda 'born', as in reborn, into her new role?

They are born with the power, but have to have it activated.

Thats how I think they made so many slayers in Chosen, Cuz the power was already in the PS's it just has to be activated. Like the dreams is a part of the slayer and the potentials have those!

Yeah, I agree. The power is within them. It just hasn't been activated yet.

I think it all boils down to Joss trying to carry over some things from the movie and change others to make the show more believable. In the movie, I got the impression that there was one Slayer and one Watcher who were reborn into each generation, sort of like the Dahli Lama. If that were so, then there would literally be only one Slayer who, when she died, would be reborn somewhere in the world and would have to be found and trained by the similarly reborn Watcher. It wasn't just a "One girl in all the world," thing, but also a "One Watcher in all the world," thing as well.

I didn't get the impression that the slayer was nothing but a reincarnation in the movie, she just dreamed of the other slayers. I mean movie Buffy had a dream that she was a slave in Virginia and we know that slaves in Virginia were black, so she was dreaming that she was that black female slave, HOWEVER she saw herself in that dream. Also if it was a slayer reborn each time it would take years for a new slayer to appear cause movie Buffy was a senior in high school which means she was about 18 when her calling came. So I didn't get that, however they did seem to make it clear that there is one watcher.

The movie actually didn't make a whole lot of sense. It actually did make the claim that the same Slayer is effectively reincarnated time after time. A pretty dumb idea, I think, and full of loopholes. But to be honest, based on how the whole movie unfolded right from the beginning, it's clear not an awful lot of thought went into it. I'm not here to attack the film or anything. I mean, it's interesting to watch if only from a historical perspective. But the series was miles ahead in terms of plot, characterisation, consistency and everything else.

Ya really. I thought the movie was sad, lol. The tv show was/is brilliant. I didn't understand the whole calling in the movie. I was not sure if there was contradiction or I was just not 'with it' but hey, I don't even consider the movie much. Only where Buffy came from. That's about it. And wonder why in the show she never said..oh I fell for a guy named Pike, and now I am falling for Spike, how stupid is that, lol....
