Has anyone checked out this movie? I'm 30 minutes through it. I've always loved the actor Emile Hirsch. The concept in the first 15 minutes scared me, It was looking like it would be total boredom. But the story/concept is growing on me as I watch it.

I've finished it and loved it. 9/10 easily. Sad that it was a true story, and even sadder that.... Well anyways I enjoyed it. You should check it out. Emile does a great job and his character touches everyone around him. Beautiful movie. But I didn't LOVE the ending. But it was okay.

:silly:

It's about a real life story of this 23 year old who just graduates college, this is during the 90's, and decides to burn all of his I.D. and give away all of his money and go out 'into the wild' It's a really beautiful movie. He goes across the country and his goal is Alaska. He meets various people and its really sweet. His character touches so many different people. The first 15 minutes through me but after that I liked it. But it's really long. I think over 2 hours.

Previous to the movie, I'd only known of McCandless through an Arcade Fire song - it's actually tragic how many of my conversations sound like this lately - and my overpowering aversion of Sean Penn prevented me from seeing it.

I just can't help thinking he was selfish. God, we all wish we could have some grand adventure, we could if we threw it all away and went for it, but... It just seems to me that basically, he committed suicide in an unusually elaborate way. He gave up, it amounts to the same.
