Anyone else watch this continuously hoping the ending will change and Riley will turn around!?! *sob*

Ummm, sorry but NO! Not even a little bit! Everytime I watch I chant, "don't look back, don't look back!" and wave him goodbye with a huge gleeful grin on my face, kinda like this :biggrin:

Not then, but in "As You Were," I keep hoping he'll show up sans Sam and he and Buffy will get back together. He grew up a lot and stopped being a whiny-bear while he was gone, and was exactly what Buffy needed at the time. So of COURSE she can't have him. *grumble*
 
I was quite indifferent to Riley leaving. I mean I didn't hate him as much as some people but I found their relationship kinda average and boring. So I didn't notice much after he had left. But I will say I loved the episode. Well written and acted enough that I actually cared for the couple in that moment.
 
um no.... this ep is all about xander and anya to me, or mostly xander getting a wake up call for how good he's got it with anya

Never ^^ I didn't really hate Riley but he just kept reminding me of Matt Damon and their relationship started to annoy me. So I was actually glad he left, but that was more for the sake of the story than because of him. And the Matt Damon thing started to get on my nerves because I am (apparantly) the only one who sees it 😉

I can see it now that you pointed it out to me, but I wouldn't have seen it by myself. I'd give them a 2.5 on the six grade scale of resemblance. XD
I wished he had turned around, i didnt like Riley much in s4 but i warmed to him in s5, and i didnt care about Spuffy enough to care if that never happened. So id have loved it if he stayed and Ruffy continued.
 
Okay, you know it when you watch a movie and you follow the good guy or the bad guy and in your heart you're actually hoping they will make it, or do something, or... you know make it work? Even though you're not rooting for that person. So even though I hated Riley and was glad that he left because then Buffy will be with Spike (ha ha), I told Riley (from the other side of the television) : "Look! she's there! she made it in time! okay, loser..." (the last words are after it's over, of course!)

you'll find most people are NOT going to agree with you on Riley here, but i do. i actually cry everytime i watch the end of that episode. I am a riley lover.
 
Oh God, no. I'm too busy booing Buffy for running after him like that. And I'm cheering him along, wishing I could give him a big smile and a pat on the back to take with him. And keep. Away. Forever.
 
I hated it when Riley left. Out of all the guys Buffy had relationships with on the show, I loved Riley because they had the most potential to last. They were a normal (well, as normal as you can get on BTVS) couple, and both HUMAN, which is probably didn't work for Buffy, seeing as how she seems to be madly, desperately attracted to her undead honeys. 😉 I was so upset when he came back all married and stuff; I thought the writers were getting ready to bring him back and pull Buffy out of that darkness she was in during that season.

I'm with you. Riley was Buffy's only chance at a happy life, especially once they solve their differences, which won't take much.
 
i dislike riley half the time. i dislike briley 3/4 of the time. the first time i saw this episode, i was bored to tears, the only shining bit of it being that, yay! riley's finally gone! every single time i have seen this episode since, i am literally screaming at my tv, "run, buffy, run!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" :cry:
 
I actually liked buffy and riley together. as mentioned before riley was the closest "normal" relationship buffy had. I thought the episode was wonderful. I loved the whole Buffy and Riley confrontation and Xander's speech to buffy.
 
I didn't love Riley, not my type. But I liked him for Buffy (even though I didn't see it lasting forever, it was a nice thing for her). And even though I thought it was rushed that he was all of a sudden leaving forever if she couldn't immediately "get over" what she'd just learned, I did feel for her when she ran and he didn't look down.

I sorta felt like he purposely didn't look down, I mean, if he really hoped she'd show...he'd have kept watching till the area was out of sight. I felt like he'd made up his mind.

I really did feel for her, though for myself, I was glad he was off the show and it was pretty clear making an opening for the more interesting if bizarrely unnatural relationship with Spike. Though I care for the characters, I care more for my own enjoyment in front of the screen (shallow, but hey, that's what I watch TV for, entertainment)

I think they could have worked through the vamp whore issue, I think the power issue would have eventually tore them apart, but all of a sudden he was "outta there". That wasn't fair to Buffy, she needed time to process what was taking place, and honestly, I think Riley was looking beyond that, knew they weren't going to end up married with kids, and decided to just get over her sooner rather than later.

She MADE the effort to stop him, but he could have chosen to stay and work it out had he been willing to meet HER halfway. He didn't. I mean, seriously, if he hadn't gone on this mission, no biggie. There will always be another mission and more bad guys to fight. Riley wasn't forced to go, he chose to go.

I agree with that statement... Which made it all the more heartwrenching for me to watch her running and running and knowing he wasn't going to see her. 🙁
 
I don't think that Riley and Buffy were really suited for one another. I'm not saying this out of any dislike for Riley. On the contrary, I liked Riley from the moment I first saw him back in Season 4 and my feelings toward his character has never abated. But I don't think he was suited for Buffy. Nor do I feel that she was suited for him. I don't think that either had the personality to encourage the other to really open up . . . unless they were forced to, as they were back in Season 4.

Both Riley and Buffy were reserved in their own ways. Riley never had any misconceptions about Buffy's true nature, but he had failed to communicate to her, when he needed to. And Buffy's tendency to push him away during her emotional crisis and treat him like fine china after his operation in "Out of My Mind" didn't help either.

I'm glad that Riley eventually met someone who was more emotionally suited for him - namely Sam. As for Buffy, I guess she is still looking; even if in Season 7, she came close to finding someone who could have been right for her in Spike.
