I don't get why people dislike Riley so much. I think after Xander talked some sense into Buffy she would have been able to fit perfectly well with Riley. All the problems in their relationship stemmed from Buffy treating Riley poorly. Although a happily married Slayer would be far less interesting than the self hating masochist she turned into.
 
the whole SUCK ME DRY vamp whore thing annoyed me, but Riley was a decent guy. Who was devoted to Buffy.


Seeing him leave thinking Buffy didn't give a damn about him was sad. Plus Marc Blucas is pretty EASY on the eyes.

Both Xander and Spike's speeches were well done by both actors.
 
I was actually mad at Xander for telling Buffy to go to him. I found Riley annoying and he had served his purpose on the show in showing the differences between how Buffy handles things vs how the military handles things. I didn't see the need for him to stay and I was happy he left.

I didn't really get Riley, he was too naive(as army boy) and too weak willed(for Buffys bf) but he was still a good decent guy. I felt bad for him and Buffy in this episode, and once again it was all down to them not communicating with each other. But i think he didn't look down from the 'copter because its like he had come to realize it was never gonna work out the way he had hoped.

Me too. Firstly, Xander should be paying attention to his OWN relationship (which he does at the end..and totally makes me forgive him with that sweet speech to Anya 🙂) and secondly, Riley's whole "come and stop me from leaving now or I'm gone for good" ultimatum was so unfair.
But I rejoiced when he left. The only part I didn't like about it was that it had taken him a season and a half to do it..

^yeah, i dont really agree with ultimatums in relationships but Riley didn't really have a choice, even Buffy realized after the Xander speech that she had not been there for him as much she could have been. And fair play to Riley for not looking down from the helicopter, he did the right thing.

I didn't really think it was helping. Riley was terrible for Buffy. For the most part he still had the Monsters=Bad and People=Good thing going on. He was to "this is the this and thats the that" and I think he felt threatened by the fact that Buffy could kick his ass. A lot was going on in Buffy's life and because of that it was up to him to communicate and he really never did. He just pouted and went to the vamps. Sorry, I didn't really feel sympathy for him.
 
Its up to both of them to communicate, Buffy having alot going on is no excuse if she did love him. But im also glad they broke up as i thought Riley was a tool, he was DEFINITLY threatened by the fact his girl could beat his ass 🙂 but good ol' Xman was just trying to help, as much as i think Riley is a tool, it dont mean i think he a bad guy.
 
^ Okay, agreed that he couldn't control the timing of things. But he didn't have to say "DECIDE NOW OR LOSE ME FOREVER!!!" Hell, he could have even said, "Let's take a break while I do this army gig and see where things go" or "Let's try to work this out...another army gig will come along." He wasn't option-less here, and I think the ultimatum was ridiculous. If I'd been Buffy...well, I wouldn't have dated Riley in the first place, but I would have said screw it and not bothered trying to chase down the helicopter. Even if Xander preached to me.
