Am I the only person that found the intro In every generation there is a chosen one. She alone will stand against the vampires the demons and the forces of darkness. She is the slayer. done very inconsistently? Some episodes had it, and some didn't, then they got rid of it? Why is this?

I think the main reason for it being cut would be timing. If it was a 'big' episode, and they overran the time, then they'd need to shave off as many seconds as possible to fit more of the actual story and plot into the episode. The 'Into every generation...' speech wasn't needed for every episode, especially after the first season when everyone knew what was going on, so it was the one thing that was probably seen as unnecessary, so it was cut to give a few extra seconds to the episode.

I agree. It was very weird.
Maybe it had something to do with the runtime. TV episodes need to have a very specific runtime, so maybe they sometimes had to leave it out to get more time for the story. Eventually they decided to drop it altogether. That's my theory.

Ya I`ll agree with what the others have said, it was most likely a run time issue, plus it would have became really redundant in the later seasons (plus we did have the opening credits), so it got cut eventually.
I wish we would have had a throwback of it in the final episode though! Would have went great with the theme of breaking that 1 slayer per generation rule.

I found it a little annoying so didn't miss it when they dropped it anyway.
It is funny with TV shows how every little second can be precious. Which is why it can be a very different disciple than film in terms of editing. And also another reason why nowadays Television is more invested in season long archs than stand alone episodes I would think.

"In every generation there was a chosen one until Buffy died and got resuscitated by Xander then in every generation there were two chosen ones until Willow activated all the potentials and then in every generation there were a bunch of them in Sunnydale until they realized that activation took place all over the world and there were about 1800 of them. They with their friends will stand against the vampires, the demons and the forces of darkness. They are the slayers and the scoobies."
Somewhere in there, the dramatic part leaked out so they didn't bother anymore.

It is more the narraters voice which puts me off rather than what he is saying. Still I do like you're suggestion for how it could have been changed.
