Hi guys,
im a 25 year old male from germany wo is hooked on buffy since i watched the series.
Iv never watched the show during its original airing in german, back in the days 😀
I knew the show existed, but I always thought of it being a "girls" show (just like I think about the vamp shows on air right now 😛)
The first time I came in contact with buffy was actually the song "I touched the fire" song from the musical episode. A friend of mine had the song in his playlist and I started listening to it. I knew it was SMG singing, but I didn't knew anything about the musical episode. I must have been around 16 at that time.
I remember that I watched angle when it was on, but I didn't followed the story nor did I knew the airing dates.
I started watching buffy when I read the critics about the "OMWF" episode on Wikipedia, were I stumbeld over while reading about josh (finished firefly at the time). I watched the episode online and liked it, so I bought the whole box set and watched is from start to finish 😀
It took me 3-4 month and I finished a couple weeks ago. Im a big fan now, and because I cant talk about the show with my friends I signed on here. My friends kinda laugh at me for watching a "girls" show (thaty why I chose guilty pleasure as my nic), even thoug everybody knows the show and some of them watched it back in the days. i think the german version is pretty much a childrends show, they dumbed down the witty dialogs and didn't even try to keep some of the puns and lovable slangs (especially spike!). So all that is left are some nice fighting scenes and cheesy special effects 😀
But as I stoped watching synchronized shows and movies over 4 years ago, im pretty good in understanding even the fast and sloppy dialoges and popculture references, which is one thing I love about the show(s, firefly and angle is great on that also).
The bad thing about my spoiled attitude against synchronized shows/movies is that im cursed to watch everything alone, as my friends don't have the patience to watch an English show/movie"¦.. and if we watch something in german, I often have to jump back and watch a scene again in English, If I feel that the german syncro ****ed up the story or a joke once again. Which is pretty annoying to all the others 😀
Some of my friends are capable of understanding English with subtitels, but I don't like subtitels cus im alwas end up reading the text instead of concentrating on the expressions of the actors.
I browsed through buffy boards a while ago, and I found a section were once a week a episode is chosen, and people discuss it afterwards. was it that board or somwere else?
I would love to watch and discuss an episode with other people, even if it's on a virtual base.
i would also enjoy to speak to englsih buffy fans via skype, to improve my speaking skills. I understand a whole lot more than I actively use in a conversation, and I guess the only way to change that is by practicing. So if there is somebody who wants to improve their german skills, (im a native speaker and speak a pretty dialect free german) write me a pm so we can change each others skype names.
Im looking forward to socialize with you guys and I hope smbdy actually reads my introduction, as it is pretty extensive 😀
