IRC

I don't know if it's my stupid internet connection (I'm at the college, and sometimes it does dumb things), but I can't connect to the IRC. I've tried both Mibbit and the chat link in the toolbar, and both say that the connection is refused. Is anyone else having this issue, or is it just me?

MY IRC works just fine...which is remarkable, since not even my msn works anymore.

Works for me. My best guess judging by the message you received is rules have been set, either in your firewall, or elsewhere blocking IRC. Have you ever connected to IRC on that particular computer before?

^ I have, and with this connection, too (I have 3 different wireless connections that I use with this computer). Let me check my firewall settings and see if something got farked up, and I'll get back to you.

Okay, "Internet Relay Chat" as an exception was UNchecked on my firewall. I checked it and hit apply, but I still can't get in.

Ah. That's because that was ICE chat, which I've NEVER gotten to work from this connection. Still no access.

bb.. you might try this is is browser based and may be able to work.

I'm kind of stumped then. I'm pretty sure I've heard of colleges blocking their pipes to certain types of traffic.

The only thing I can think of is try it from a non-college connection as soon as possible. See if anything changes.

Sometimes when you change settings like that, they don't apply till you reboot. Glad you can chat too now Blondie!

So we seem to have really nutty issues in the IRC at the moment, like some of us are getting sucked into an alternate dimension where we can see each other, but we can't talk to each other and every so often the log updates what happens on the other side...

It would appear to be something called a Netsplit.

IRCers' stay as pleasant as possible. If and when a netsplit occurs the administration (IRCops and Admins) get to work as soon as possible to fix it just so that IRCers' can have a pleasant chat. Unfortunately, no IRC network has the joy of lacking netsplits completely, and when a netsplit does occur, all we ask for is that you have some patience, ride it out and get back to doing whatever you were doing before 🙂
