Irish Food

Utter rubbish! My grandmother made Irish stew with lamb or mutton. Sometimes I believe Beef was used. By no stretch of the imagination was Pork or bacon ever used

Yup...lamb and mutton was the original Irish Stew although beef is what is most widely used today.

Yep US Irish places ALWAYS have corned beef and cabbage on the menu. Remember that scene in...what was the movie with Brad Pitt and Harrison Ford? Where Brad Pitt is the Irish guy and Harrison Ford's wife cooks a special "Irish" meal for him of corned beef and cabbage and he'd never had it before.

Hi BS :) Irish stew and corned beef and cabbage are two entirely different things

The Devil's Own😉

I don't know how it is possible for an Irish person to never have had Corn Beef and Cabbage or at least heard about it. Seriously...it is a staple meal here lol

Selig agrees: Hi BS 🙂 Irish stew and corned beef and cabbage are two entirely different things

Yeah that was just a comment, not really relating to whether stew was made with corned beef or not. More in the US Irish people using corned beef more vein.

I went to Whole Foods today, but they didn't have the bread mix. I guess it depends where you are, different stores would stock items that are most in demand (makes perfect sense, huh?) Here there are lot of Asian, Mexican and Indian foods, not so much Irish or English, or even anything European, really. We have another store that sells imported items, too, but they didn't have it either. I bought the stuff to make cabbage and that's what I'll take. So there! I had already told them I was bringing cabbage anyway, the bread was going to be a little "extra" I threw in.

I think potatoe bread and cake is back on our popular menu lists i stayed in two hotels in waterford this weekend and on both for breakfast it was there, you cant beat irish breakfast 🙂

I've been trying to find clotted cream for 15 years with no luck lol

You'd think you'd be able to find it where you are......more of an English presence there than here! Isn't it funny? As small as the world's become, it's apparently not small enough yet!

Clotted Cream is a southern England thing rather than an Irish.

I love Devonshire clotted cream🙂

I would never dream of claiming it for Ireland lol

I've never actually had it...I don't even know if you can get it here.

I don't get why clotted cream is called 'clotted cream', I mean, I'm sure there is a valid reason. But, it just makes me think of heart attacks and clogged up arteries. Not so delicious sounding.

Is that just me?

Anything with Guinness in it as a sauce or whatever...Yeah, I know, bennigans isn't traditional Irish food.

Still Good!

Relic agrees: Just like them nazi jokes eh ed? Whatever.

What?

Are you suggesting that making jokes about something that happened 150 years ago is wrong?
Are you suggesting that making light of the Nazis is wrong?

If its either of them, to be honest I absolutely disagree, but I expect a 1000 word essay where you try and take a moral high-ground that boils down to simply gobbledy gook!

🙂

Nothing you said was all especially bad in the first place. People take things way too seriously sometimes.
All these years, I thought clotted cream was the same thing as whipped cream. Well, I've learned something today.
