Is Andrew gay?

My question is simple. Do you personally think that Andrew is gay? If you think he is, what was the scene or moment that got you convinced? If not, then what makes you think it isn't the case?

I'm not trying to sound ignorant and say this is the way a straight man acts and how a gay man acts....but I always had the feeling the character of Andrew was Gay.

But seriously, I think he is gay. In that ep at the end of s6, one of the evil Willow saga (Two to go?) he says, "...he never loved-- spending time with us," and you know he was going to say he never really love me. Joss and Co. hinted at his sexuality, but they weren't as out as they were with Willow.

I do agree! That's why The First turned into Warren to make him do all these horrible things in season 7. He knew Andrew had something for him. 😉

I always thought that he was, and that he had crushes on both Xander and Spike. Just look at his expression when Xander announces that he was "going gay." That was pure thrill. Also, in "The Girl In Question," the James Bond tux and the two girls were just too overboard, and obviously a performance. A more simple outfit and a single girl would have been far more convincing.

I think he's definitely attracted to men. I started to think this with Warren, and then later in 'Entropy' where he's watching the video of Spike and Anya, and his first reaction is how cool Spike is. 😀 I wish Joss would take gay men more seriously though. It's always just hinted at or played for laughs.

I never thought Andrew was gay but I did find myself curious if Tom was gay, which he is.

I just thought he was a complete dork and didn't know how to act around girls or anyone in that matter but I didn't really think he was gay, I actually thought for a flash of a second that he and Dawn were gonna get together 🙂

But yeah, mark me down as a no, didn't think he was gay.

Without being totally stereotypical, yes I think it was pretty obvious that Andrew was gay. Even if you don't take into account his mannerisms and behavior, some of his comments about Spike pretty much implied it.

I honestly never really put much thought into it. There are definitely moments where I can see why people would assume he is gay, but I'm not totally convinced. He could just be a geeky, socially awkward loner type who clings to whom ever pays him any attention; like we saw with Warren,Spike, Xander, Buffy etc. etc.

Anyways, as you can probably tell I voted I'm uncertain.

SPIKE: It's not a road trip. It's a covert operation.

ANDREW: Right. Right. Gotcha. (beat) I?I bet even covert operatives eat curly fries. They're really good.

SPIKE: Not as good as those onion blossom things.

ANDREW: Ooh, I love those.

SPIKE: Yeah, me, too.

ANDREW: It's an onion... and it's a flower. I?I don't understand how such a thing is possible.

SPIKE: See, the genius of it is you soak it in ice water for an hour so it holds its shape. Then you deep-fry it root-side up for about 5 minutes.

ANDREW: Masterful.

SPIKE: Yeah. (beat) Tell anyone we had this conversation, I'll bite you.

ANDREW: Right.

Andrew was gay or at the very least he's bi. He likes boys.

He perved on Spike, he flirted with Xander, and he was in love with Warren.

Oh yes.

Repeating Anya's lines saying "there is no one like you" to Xander on the video tape was a pretty big indicator to me as well as ignoring Willow and Kennedy Kissing on the couch to check out Xander's handy work at fixing the window. He had a bit of a crush on Xander.

I always thought he was gay but it was the way he was with Warren and the way he talked about Warren to others that made me more convinced he was gay.

To be honest, I can't say for sure that if Andrew had been played by anyone other than Tom Lenk that he'd have developed in the way he did. It did seem at first that he was just overly needy and was the kind of person who really admires his alpha male. Look at the people he "loved": you have Warren, Spike, Xander (who, towards the end, was one of the most masculine presences in his life,) and Anya. Anyone who claims Anya was not an alpha-male can try saying it to her face. 😛 I just think Tom really enjoyed playing up the bundt-cake moments. It also makes perfect sense that Andrew would enjoy dressing up as James Bond with two beautiful women on his arms. After all, that's exactly the kind of thing that Warren wanted to be.

It's difficult to tell if Andrew was anything other than deeply obsessive. I'm sure Tom Lenk had a huge influence on the character, however, and I think that the hints were flying left, right and centre during Season 7 and into 8. So, I don't know if the writers ever decided, but I'm sure Tom was playing him as gay.
