Is Buffy your favourite character?

i go through stages of which character is my favourite

at the moment and for most of this year actually i would have to say she has been my favourite chacter, but why i cant explain she just is at the moment

i've gone through alot of the characters over the years as favourites i remember likeing willow, xander, giles (espcially in band cany as Ripper 😛),spike, dru, faith,oz

these have all been favourites of mine over the years but in the end i have a soft spot for most if not all the characters in there own unique way, its kind of hard to pick a true favourite as each character is so unique they cant be compared with others if that makes any sence

actually, to me that makes perfect sense.
Overall, I loved Buffy because she was an empowering female role model. She was the girl I wanted to be growing up; pretty, funny, admired by all the guys but who could kick any one of those guys' asses if they got out of line. 😉 But she was not my favorite character because of her "I'm better than everyone else" attitude she seemed to have sometimes. My favorite character was always Xander because he was hilarious and the most real. He didn't have super powers, but he never hesitated to fight the good fight as best as he could, and he always said what everyone else was thinking (even if he was a little too blunt sometimes). 🙂

Officially my favourite character is Angel. People guffaw at that but he is so emotionally layered and conflicted that I find him fascinating. There is just always something new to see with him. That's how I view Buffy too. We may not always get to see these sides of Buffy but they are there and I love deconstructing her and exploring her changes throughout the series. If I had to pick a favourite character from Buffy it would be her. It was her story that kept me coming back and even still I tend to view situations through her viewpoint opposed to other characters, same goes for Angel.

Angel is very close to be tied with Cordy as my favorite character but Angel on AtS, Angel on Buffy is near last on my list of favorites.

Joyce Summers
I have to agree. Just when you think Angel might be the real Captain Cardboard of the shows, something happens to show an entirely different side/layer to him. He is, in short, an onion

Agreed. I find Angel really interesting, too.
Well as far as favorite characters go in any show, I never pick any of the main cast. I don't know why. It's always tends to be a recurring star, or someone who isn't in the "scooby gang" of the show so-to-speak, haha. For example in Pushing Daisies my favorite characters are the Aunts, haha. But as far as my favorite main character goes it is definitely Buffy. I know she's an elevated superhero type character but despite that I always related to her and as regards storylines and decisions I always agreed with her thoughts and opinions way more often than any of the other characters such as Willow, Giles, Xander, Anya etc. And I as much as I enjoy all the characters, I enjoyed Buffy's the most (Though I do have to agree with SMG about season 6 that we really lost who Buffy was to the point the show didn't even seem to be about the same person anymore, but by season 7 we got back on track 😉 haha).

So yes, if I was to pick from main cast only I would pick Buffy without a doubt. But maybe it's obvious that we all have Buffy as our ultimate favorite character- otherwise why would we watch the show? So if it goes without saying that we love Buffy Summers, then maybe that's why a large majority of us on this board have other characters listed as our favorites because Buffy herself is a given?

Although I am down with the Buffy love I'm not sure it is true that we love the main character as a given...Dawson Leary anyone? I still hate him! lol
I do not decide watching show by liking or disliking the main character. I have shows where i do not like main character, but do like side or opponents. That does not mean that i hate the main character normally, just i like others more or in rarer case rather neutral about them.

"V" is an example where main characters (Donovan and Julie) left me rather cold and even dislike at times, but i loved some of the side ones and enemies.

"Magnum P.I" is one of my favorite shows overall and my favourite there is actually Higgings, not Magnum. I do like him a lot too, just not favourite.

While this show is Buffy centric, she is not my favourite as can be seen from my profile (or whatever you call it 😛). She is probably not even in top 5, altough close. I do like her nevertheless....usually.

Agreed. I watch Smallville but I dispise Chark Kent.
Keanoite agrees: Although I am down with the Buffy love I'm not sure it is true that we love the main character as a given...Dawson Leary anyone? I still hate him! lol

Okay, I'll give you Dawson haha. But BtVS is so central to Buffy in that she is the nucleus- the whole reason why the characters are there, why the scooby gang formed that even if she's not your ultimate favorite I doubt there's anyone on here who hates Buffy in a Dawsony way, haha. 😉

I always liked Pacey better ;)
i also find theres a level that i can relate to her and thats the fact that despite been surrounded by friends you can still feel alone

i don't no maybe its this conection that i can relate to with her that along with how much you would love to be the slayer, and some of the situations she gets herself into that make her one of my faves from time to time as my fave character always changes lolz

i don't really have a fixed favourite character, because as i change as a person and grow older in age and maturity, my tastes change. i love buffy, always and forever, but she's not my favourite. when i was younger watching buffy, i wanted to be her--she was this awesome, beautiful, powerful woman who was different, and i idolized her. then i moved into my willow phase (i'm gay, incidentally) and got into wicca and spirituality and counter-culture stuff, and i guess now i'm in my giles/spike/angel phase which i'd characterize as interested in the conflicted, quiet, intellectual types with dark things in their pasts to overcome.

Buffy is my favorite. There are many reasons, but I think the primary reason was because I really liked SMG's acting.

Oh, erm...no Buffy's not my Favourite character...that title truely and completely belongs to Willow. Although Buffy's not my least favourite either...I could relate to buffy more then some of the other characters...we've got so much in common...she's a slayer..i'm a slayer....ok so now i'm returning from denial land...ii just think that Buffy's not my favourite because of her whole superiority thing...half the time she doesn't listen to anyone else...I love Willow so much because she's not like that...i love watching season one when she's just so surprised someone's talking to her...soo cute. Like i said i don't not like buffy....she probably comes third on my list after Willow and Tara 😀

I love Buffy. She's our hero. She's certainly one of my favorite characters. I think she can piss us off at times though, and close herself off, and be hard to relate too. What I personally find interesting is how the other characters relate to her, since she is in the central role. Buffy is a fantastic, multi-layed, three-dimensial character and I could go on for hours about how interesting she is.

There were times when I really liked her, but too often she was being a ball of angst and 'you wouldn't understand', so she's not near my favourite.

personaly i think it is beacuse people like to be different so choosing different characters makes it more intersting than chooseing the main character but i think if you look deep inside people you will find buffy is there favourite character i think that is true about me anyway even though i will still say spike is my favourite character 🙂

I don't know what it is. Maybe it's that sometimes she comes off as very self-absorbed and more so than the other characters? I mean, everyone else was very, very loveable. Tara, Willow, Oz, Xander, Giles, Angel, Faith, Dawn... I mean, even Cordy eventually became someone I always laughed with when she came onscreen. But I don't know. I mean, I don't feel that she had as MUCH character development as the other characters in the show, who very much changed from start-to-finish.

No way. Sometimes I cannot STAND Buffy. Especially in Angel.

I don't relate to her as much as I did with Willow.

Buffy is my favorite character.. but then again the reason I started watching the show is because I love Sarah Michelle Gellar..

Buffy is without a doubt my favourite character. 🙂

I think she's an amazing young woman and deserves to be cut some slack. Yes she can be angsty and depressing sometimes but that's because she's had the weight of the world on her shoulders since she was fifteen years old. Who wouldn't get a little tired of that? She's subjected to violence on a nightly basis and is denied some of the simpler pleasures in life other people take for granted. When all of her friends went to the game in 'Earshot' she had to go out and patrol, when all of her friends got to plan their futures towards the end of High School Buffy was just hoping she'd have one"¦. She's had a very hard life.

Even ignoring all the trials and tribulations she's had to go through as the slayer she's still had a tough time of it. She found her mother dead on the couch, she's nearly been raped on her bathroom floor, her father abandoned her even when her mother had died and she had to drop out of College to support her sister which suddenly become her responsibility. That's on top of all the things she's went through as a vampire slayer.

I really like Buffy, but she was just never a character that I got overly attached too. Willow struck me as more intriguing. Buffy seems a bit, larger then life and Willow (for me) is more true to life, I mean...except for the witchcraft and all that, lol
