Is Eliza cursed when it comes to having her own shows?

Personally, I'm constantly amazed at all the great actors that have come from the Buffyverse and gone on to do great work. Good shows get cancelled all the time. I don't think we've seen the last of Eliza. 😉

I wouldn't used the word cursed, but I am sure as hell bummed that they cancelled both shows. I just got around and watched Tru Calling (I had watched 1 episode in French a while ago when it was airing on TV here) and I hated the ending. So many points left that could've been resolved if they had at least let the show run to complete S2. I think it had great potential and it could've been at a good moment considering the raise of crime shows... Because in a way it was a crime show (and I will always prefer it to all the Law & Order and CSIs out there...)

DollHouse was also a great show, but it was one you had to get hooked on the first try, imo. Because if you didn't like it at first, there were little to no chances that you would want to watch it again.

Anyways, I surely hope one day Eliza will get a show that will not be cancelled within it's 2nd season because I really like her as an actress. and despite what some people here seem to think, I do think she has it to be a lead.
 
As for "Tru Calling," I've always believed that if they had introduced Tru's nemesis within the first couple of episodes of Season 1, instead of the way that they actually did it, and then continued on with that story line, the show would have done better.

Maybe, but Tru had to go through some stuff and discover her own power before they could introduce Jack. Otherwise, she could have just reacted like a scared girl and let him win. She had to understand the impact she had on other people's life because of her gift. I think the fact that Jack was introduced (officially as her nemesis) at the end of S1 made it that easier for Tru to say no and keep fighting for her beliefs, for she knew perfetly by then that she saved people for the best.

And that of course made Luc's death that much harder for her to cope with, which imo was a good thing (except for my box of tissues).
 
I honestly don't believe that Eliza's that great of an actress. I would have liked Dollhouse so much more if someone else had played Echo. Maybe. Enver Gjokaj should have played her! Haha they could have just popped a wig on his head...yeah, that would have been glorious.
 
What's the go with good shows get cancelled? All shows end at some point, its just that some end prematurely.
Thing is, why do they end. Generally speaking, it isn't because of the lead actor. Take Tru Calling for instance, that show seemed to be designed to be as it was in season 1. Then in season 2 the shows producers, directors, scriptwriters brought in a character that wasn't well planned, was played by a has-been. His character changed the shape of the show, essentially it was another show, and it failed.
The show could have continued as it was in season 1. The reason why the show failed was because of bad management.
And Dollhouse was like so many previous shows with that story line, they had been successful, so Dollhouse had a lot to live up to. But it didn't
Joss does seem to have success when he 'invents' a new character, and the show centres around that character.
Buffy was a new character, the show centred of her, the show did good,
Angel sort of did good, but characters from Buffy kept being used, and the show ended. It began to seem as though the show couldn't survive without using the ratings of those other characters.
Dollhouse, the show was centred on the business, had it been centred on the main character, well.
Firefly, the whole show seemed based on the theme of space cowboys of the wild west, that may have been ok in America but not so much in the rest of the world. Also the story lines needed to be powerful stories, that were accepted worldwide.
So don't be to ready to blame the actors if the bosses get it wrong.
 
Tru Calling was a great show, the first lot of episodes of Season Two finally had it getting interesting and then nothing which was sad as that was a show Eliza could take the lead in. Unfortunately she's more a supporting actress than a lead... She has it but she doesn't HAVE it... if you get my meaning 😀
 
Most actors can play the lead role, if there is sufficient quality in the scriptwriting, unfortunately the series went from one lead role to two then back to one lead role. Jason was a good actor, but not in that role, his physical presence didn't match his character. He looked as though that clean cut image kept trying to get out. (similar to that other guy from 90210, Puke Lerry or should that be Luke Perry).
The manner of Jason's speech fitted Eliza's role, not his.
Eliza did end up as a supporting actor, and that is where the problems grew from. Because she made the show.
