Is Glory Dead?

I read an interview recently, I'm not sure where it is, but Joss said Glory was dead.

also I don't think Illyria/Fred is comparable to Glory/Ben, The circumstances are similar but it's not the same!

Agree: I don't think you can compare them.

yer, but if you read how we got onto Illryia/Fred, it was me using Fred as an example of the only person being truly gone in the Buffyverse, meaning Glory can come back
I agree. I think Glory is dead. I think that's a shame though, because she rocked, and was the best baddy ever, but yep, she's gone! 🙂 I think it is also possible that she could merely be a spirit vessel, as humans/Gods in some mythologies go on to be, and that could explain the first. I think he merely merged with her spirit/essence, whatever was left of her, but that it WAS dead.

But Glory wasn't destroyed in the same way Fred was. Fred was consumed in the fires of Illyria rebirth (Or something like that), Glory was murdered in the same was as another person was; the only difference was she was sharing a body with someone else but her death was normal, unlike Fred's. It could have been possible to resurrect her like Buffy was except for 2 things; she died a natural death so like Tara she couldn't have been brought back. And the last know Urn of Osiris(sp?) was destroyed also furthering her inability to come back.

I don't think you are understanding what I was saying. I wasn't comparing Fred's case to Glory's, I was stating that Fred is the only being in the Buffyverse that we know as truly gone. This means even if Glory couldn't come back to life, her soul does exist in some form or another, maybe in a hell dimension?
As for not being able to come back, I'm sure they'd find a may to get her back if they absolutely had to.

Not really pertaining to the thread's question, but...

I just realized that I've seen at least eight of the season five episodes yet I have no idea who Glory is. If there are eight episodes without her I must have seen those. I mean, I always hear about her, I know WHO she is techinically but I don't think I've ever seen her on the show.

lol - She has a very good storyline in season 5, you'd like it :)

I got that, but because we don't know the details of how Fred was going to be brought back. The fact that, what was it she was going to share the same body with Illyria, kinda says that it probably wasn't a resurrection spell, but a part of Fred that was still in Illyria. And as far as we know it would be impossible to bring Glory back because of how she dies, a natural death. Willow became the most powerful person in the world, when she was overcome with Black magicks, or so she said so (It was probably second to White Willow), but even as the most powerful there was no way for her to bring Tara back, so I think the same thing would apply to Glory?

I think she is dead. It was stated many times that if Ben dies Glory dies too. It may seem weird that a God dies, but I think as she was restricted to a humain body, and her powers were limited, so was her ability to survive anything. She was connected to Ben....
That is just my opinion. 😀.
Plus, the First took her form...

You have a good point, but I think that when talking about Tara and talking about Glory it's a completely different scenario. Glory wasn't human, she was a god.. the only humanity she had in her was Ben, and she had become a seperate entity to him, remember?? That's why she could push herself out from time to time. Her death wasn't natural, Ben's was - but she was basically unkillable, unless Ben was killed. Sure, Ben probably couldn't have been brought back, but there is no telling what happened to Glory.. What happens to gods when they die? Do they even die at all?? Even if she did die a humain, natural death, it would be possible to bring her back, just maybe not perfectly - like Dawn brang Mrs. Summers back..
This is a little off the topic but before 'To Shanshu in LA' in Angel S1, we were unaware vampires could successfully be brought back to life, but then we were shocked to see Darla..

Can a god be dead in Whedonverse? I remember watchers warning Buffy that Glory is invincible and immortal. So how can she be dead?

Wow, this is a very long thread to read through...lol.. 😉

For me I think Glory is dead.

Ben was Glory's prison, and we know that he was created to hold her in this dimension so that she couldn't do anything wrong. And even though they may have started out as two different entities I think Glory's own power broke down that barrier. We know that Glory's power was strong enough to be able to allow her to break through Ben's form so that she could take on a form of her own. And in the last episode Glory started feeling Ben's emotions and vice versa. Glory felt sad about killing Dawn. Not that that was going to stop her, but the two personalities seemed to be merging.

So, killing Ben, who Glory relied on for form and was linked with emotionally, and I think that was enough to destroy the God.

I noticed that a lot of people were saying that Glory was all powerful...too powerful to kill. But if that was the case, then I wonder why she didn't quickly change back from Ben to Glory. I always thought there might have been a manipulative reason for Glory shifting into Ben. I thought she was playing on Buffy's emotions and humanity...hoping that Buffy wouldn't kill an innocent. But Giles showed no remorse and if Glory was as powerful as she claimed, it should have been easy for her to shift back into her Gloy form.

I remember hearing, but can't remember the episode, that Glory's powers were limited in this dimension. She was bound by her own body, she wasn't as powerful as she had once been.

I think that begs the question, was she still a God? Or was she once a God who had been bound to human form and was paying for them limitations?

I think I get what you're saying. Like the human form of Glory we see is more a demi-god expression of the the true God force behind it, right? And that can die. Is that correct?

Yeah. That's what I was thinking...because to defeat Glory the first time, it took two actual Gods from Glory's dimension and they still couldn't kill her...

Glory is not dead, she will probably be stuck between worlds as Bens form has left her, so she wont have her "cordy figure and bad home perm"hair style, she will possibly be mear spirit?

or she could be dead yes, but its possible shes in a dimension.

The way I see it..is that she is probably not dead though I cannot say where she is or what happened to it because from what I gathered was that when Giles killed Ben he destroyed Glory's way of coming through Ben.

Okay, I'd rather not be flamed, but I have one idea and I'm basing every other idea on it. Don't hurt me. Please.

Ben is Glory.
Glory is Ben.
Ben is dead.
Therefore, Glory is dead.

Your theory is surmises that Ben IS Glory and Vice Versa.
That is not the case, they are separate entities in one body.
They aren't even one form with dual personalities. They have distinctly separate characters AND forms depending on who is in the driving seat.
The only thing is that both cannot be on show at the same time.
