Is Glory Dead?

This is something that occurred to me while I was reading White Avenger's post in This thread.

We see The First take on Glory's form at the end of 'Lessons', but is Glory actually dead?

Giles killed Ben, yes, but Ben was nothing more than Glory's human prison. She was trapped inside his body, but his body wasn't hers, and it was his life that was snuffed out, Glory was simply in retreat while she healed.

So, in your opinion, is Glory dead? And if not, where is her soul/essence/whatever and why was The First able to take her form?
 
Wasn't it mentioned in S5 that she wouldn't be able to exist on this plain without a vessel? I always thought that if you killed the vessel, i.e. Ben, you killed Glory. Could be wrong though.

I'm with sisterofmercy, and the fact that the First can take her form is further evidence to support that (or a major plot error on Joss' part).

I would say that yeah, when Ben died, Glory died.
 
Technically, a God can not die. So, if she really was a God as they said she was, she is not dead.

I'd like to think, being the Glory fan that I am, that she found her way back to her own dimension and reclaimed her thrown.

I had thought that had been mentioned in season 5 when they were talking about how to kill her, i cannot remember the exact quote but i am pretty sure you are right with this.

A god cannot die according to whom? It seemed pretty clear that in Whedonverse, a god is immortal but not indestructible. Her container was destroyed so on the earthly realm of the Whedonverse, she's deadzors.

It would make for an interesting twist later (plot hole of the first appearing as her excluded), if she wasn't actually dead. Or a less plot hole-y option of her being resurrected with a new container or repaired container like with Buffy's second coming back from the dead.

Totally off topic but since started talking about death of gods.. Gaiman, American Gods. Whose read? Should if not.
 
I think she died along with Ben. I think the only way she could have survived is if the same ritual was done and she was trapped in another vessel. That didn't happen, so she died with him.
 
Glory wasn't human though, or even remotely related to humans in the same way as vampires etc. are. She was a God. We know the First can only take the form of people who have died, but there's no rules about things that are outside the whole "living" spectrum.

I think the only reason Glory could die - if she did - was because she was part of Ben. So, yeah, I think she probably did die - especially after what Gregor said, but I wouldn't have a problem with the original evil taking the form of a living Goddess of evil.
 
I think all the First required was somebody whose body had died... it didn't matter what happened to the soul or (in Glory's case) the godly essence she had in place of a soul.

I don't know what happened to that godly essence after the Ben/Glory body was killed. She couldn't go home without the Key, so probably she's just floating around somewhere like a ghost, maybe waiting to find a new body she can inhabit. Maybe her minions will find a way to get her a new body. Probably won't happen in canon, though.

There are mythologies in which a god, or gods die. Baldar was murdered by Loki in Norse mythology, and most, if not all, of their principal gods will die in the battle of Ragnarok. In Greek mythology, Zeus and his siblings killed their father, Jupiter. So there is precedence for having a god die. Also, hell gods might be less powerful, therefore more vulnerable, when not in their own kingdom or plane of existence. (Off subject a bit, but that might also explain why Illyria seemed to be more powerful during the "After The Fall" arc. Returning to a hell dimension, even one not her own, had a rejuvenating effect on her)
 
Ben is Glory, Glory is Ben. Can't kill Glory, so you kill Ben. Kill the human, the God dies. I believe she's dead.

Where is it written that all Gods are indestructible?
 
I thought she was still alive.....just in another dimension and without a body to vacate.

Also I thought she was kind of over the whole Buffy thing...she got beat...move on.
