I didn't mean that I thought that they should have been having sex in highschool...just as I didn't mean it was purely the sex that made things more real...I was just saying that going as far as to SHOW alot of the stuff they did was a way of letting us into the severity of what each character was dealing with. Be it positive or negetive. They went there because it was another way they had to grow as people just as we do. The fact that they didn't hold back in that sense made me feel more connected because a lot of shows just stick to the same thing year after year. The change was welcome and necesary IMO. And I grew up pretty much the same age as they were so I guess as far as my life went I began REALLY feeling with the characters in the later years. But not because of sex. I meant more the darkness that each of the characters were facing. Just sometimes they used sex to push the point. I thought they did a brilliant job not coddling the viewers.

It turned out kind of funny in "Beer Bad," where she decks him. And he really did deserve it.
 
Rayne, ok I see what you mean. I do think the show was very realistic and season 6 especially went into a very real place with all the darkness and everything. I grew up with the characters too and I'm also glad they didn't hold anything back.
 
I think that Willow, Tara, and Anya put it best, (and i mean no disrespect or to be a perv.) Willow "Were not so much about the hateing guys, as the um... girl on girl action." Anya "and men like to watch that, the girl on girl action! doesn't that make you angry?" Tara "Well i guess i could see guys likeing it"

Oh sweetie, I wasn't trying to fight. I just wanted to clarify myself. I didn't want you to think I was just sleezy...well, I kinda am...lol...but that's not what I was getting at THIS time. 😛 😉
 
LOL @ Rayne!!!! I think it kinda went over the top in season 4,I understand that it's all part of growing up,but it just went way too far (IMO)
 
lol I never thought you were sleezy. I don't think I'm sleezy but I thought alot of the spuffy sex scenes were hot.
 
No I didn't find them offensive at all, or even unnecessary. The characters were growing up, maturing, experiencing new things. They had relationships with people. I actually think that Joss did a really good job of being realistic. Especially with the Parker episodes.
 
I got a bit sick of the Briley sex scenes in Buffy S4+ as well. I know there weren't many but I just found them sort of annoying and not really relevant to anything. I know they're going to have sex, but I really don't need to see Buffy and Spike doing it up against the wall at the Doublemeat.

I don't think Buffy was being sleazy so much as growing up! Season one she was a bubble-gummer and sex would've been inapropriate at that point. Season two she falls in love and gives herself for her first time. Ironicly, Angel reverts to Angelus and it beats the sex/concequences theory to death. Season three there was nill penetration. So in three seasons she has sex once. Season four she's off to college and she attempts her first relationship as a young woman instead of a young girl. She makes a bad choice, and once again there are concequences. She wasn't exactly on the prowl when Riley persued her, and he was definately a gentleman. He had proven that he loved her before they ever took Briley to the bedroom. Now season six was a little more graphic and fluent with the sex scenes. But it's not like Buffy didn't know Spike. She didn't just take some Joe Schmoe home from the Bronze and rock his world. Spike loved her, and Buffy used him for comfort sex. Shame, shame, but it happens! Eventually Buffys feelings evolved, and Spike gave his life for her. ( Not that he was the first vamp to do that!) Overall, I'd say Buffys sexual appetite was pretty average, but not sleazy.
 
Of course Xander also had sex in season 4....But he always gets forgotten,poor guy!

buffy was growing up.. she was out of high school and enjoying her freedom. the buffy/ riley scenes were part of the story. as for willow n tara they were the sweetest tv couple ever.. cried for ages when tara was shot(grrr bad warren)🙂
 
I think just about everytime sex was shown (except for maybe Xander and Anya) it had something to do with the story.

Buffy and Angel was the old 'sleep with a guy and he turns into a jerk' sterotype taken to the usual Hellmouth extreme. Parker was the same, but without him turning into a psychopathic murderer.

Buffy and Riley's first time came right after they had captured a demon and made the fight like foreplay (echoes of Faith there) and the marathon sex they had in 'Where The Wild Things Are' was shown as not letting our primal urges get the better of us. Also, Buffy was probably enjoying having a sexual partner that would still be there in the morning.

Spike and Buffy....... that was Joss basically saying 'we've beaten the metaphor thing to death, let's just show it'. It was also so graphic to juxtapose it with Buffy's relationship with Angel. In Joss's own words 'her relationship with Angel was all about romance and her relationship with was... not'. It also showed how messed up she was after being yanked out of heaven; she was so desperate to feel anything she would sleep with someone she didn't really like all that much.

The only reason you saw Willow and Tara in bed in the sixth season was the network change. Joss had a a major battle with the WB about the kiss in 'The Body' which was something done for support and love and was not sexual in any way, shape or form and Joss nearly walked out when the network wanted to cut it. But notice that in the sixth season, Willow and Tara were much more open with the PDA's, kissing and such. My theory is that UPN gave Joss a lot more freedom than WB and he allowed the Willow/Tara relationship to run just like the other relationships in the show. How many times did we see Xander and Anya or Buffy and Spike in bed (or on the floor)? Willow and Tara were shown having sex twice in course of a two and a half year relationship and both of those scenes were in the sixth season! UPN gave Joss more freedom and he ran with it and Willow and Tara's relationship became much more believeable because of it.

Did the show get slutty? No, the show grew up, just like the characters and just like the viewers.
 
I didn't personally think Buffy was sleezy in s4, With Parker she was more or less convincing herself she was over Angel, and with Riley well he was her boyfriend it wasn't exactly shocking to me. I think she was acting relitivly normal for the most part.
