Is it me? Or was Series 5 really not that good?

I love Season 5 because of Dawn's and Glory's addition to the cast. Of course the latter is only a temporary one but you get my point. Dawn was a good characters and worked into the storyline pretty well. ((a better retcon than say...a pregnant Cordelia's unborn child was the cause of everything)

I really don't think Jasmine was a retcon. The story was modified BEFORE PRODUCTION due to Charisma's pregnancy and Glenn's death (Doyle was originally going to be a Big Bad), but I'm pretty sure that doesn't come remotely close to being a "retcon."

I really do feel that Series 5 was quite a let down. I wasnt and never have been keen on "whiny" Dawn, and all folks seemed to do was cry, cry, cry, then die!

Series 5 not the best

It was probably you. Everyone has a season or two they are not crazy about. For me, it's Season 1 and parts of Season 2.

I'm just starting to rewatch it in order! I have to say it's starting off well.....but as I do remember Glory bugs the hell out of me. And Ben.....kinda boring. Not a match for Buffy, come on! Yes, they both have their interesting moments. I mean, Glory can be hilarious... but so annoying. NOT the big bads of big bads. Sorry! 🙂 Although, I would have to agree the idea of a God pist off as hell could make for good buffyverse material. I would have to say not my favorite season if I had to pick. hmmm

Not my favorite but Season 5 has a special meaning for me because it's the first season I watched "live" (when it was broadcasted for the first time) and it's how I discovered Buffy. But then came Season 6 and that's still today my favorite of all.
But Season 5 has its great moments, with powerful episodes like "The Body" and I love Glory. And not original, but I don't like Dawn in this season particularly. Even if I've never been a huge fan of Dawn, she's particularly irritating in Season 5.

loving your sig :)
Season 5 isn't the best, but I didn't think it was bad either. I believe that a strong season finale will cover up a lot of bad episodes in a season and season 5 had a hell of a strong finale.

Ben/Glory, make me unsee it!
Though there were bunch of quite cool episodes, involving Dru's cameo, Buffy's inner journeys either in Real me or in that desert, Willow's magic getting stronger, powerful, Dracula (a nod to all of us - vampire flicks' maniacs :: vampire).
It makes whole season 'ok' with me. So I can't say it was 'bad' season.

I can relate to few aspects of this season such as discovering myself - trying yoga and taichi in RL, the death of a parent, so, it can't be neglected as 'bad' season. It deals with 'maturation'.

But Ben... Glory... Dawn... *brrrr*.
