Note: In this episode Angel switches body with this old geezer.


So i just re-watched Carpe Nochtem and i was wondering if Angel(Old Guy In Angel's Body) has the whole curse and everything i was wondering if he screws a girl would he loose his soul to and there fore bringing Angelus?Like Angel would?

And one last thing lets say Angel and Angelus switch their bodies and then Angelus is now in the old guy would Angel be free of the curse?

Confusing i know lol.

Concerning the first question: well, having sex makes Angel's soul go away. The crucial question is now, if it's bound to the body, or to his soul. I peronally think since the body of Angelus was cursed with a soul, that there now has to stick a soul to this body, unles it gets released through a happy. Since Angel and the guy swapped body, that guys soul was then in the body of Angelus. So yea, I think if he had gotten a happy, the soul would've gone poof. Of course I doubt he woiuld've lost his soul via just random sex....I don't think that gives perfect happiness.

The second: Angelus is soulless, so I think he couldn't switch bodies with anyone.

on the first question, i dont think he would lose his soul. i mean, in essence, the soul must have been what got switched, right? it was angel in the old guy's body, not angelus. so, either they both switched into the old guy's body, or just angel did. anyway, i think it was bound to angel himself. otherwise, it would be easy to get out of the curse, sort of. he could just find another body, like of a dead person, to take over. i dont know; im rambling. i just dont agree. i think that if angel's not the happy one, it wouldnt make sense for him to lose his soul.

Its been a while since I saw this ep but didn't he have sex with Lilah? Or did they not go all the way before Fred saw them? I agree with Spirit Of Fred though... with a body swap its the essence of a person that switches, the soul. So Angel's soul was still with him in the old guy. If the Angel in old guy had gotten it on to the point of happy I guess the soul would have gone and we'd have crazy Angelus old guy running around? Cause is the demon bound with the soul? I just confused myself a little. The demon couldn't have just been left over with Angel's body while his soul went with him to the old guy right?

If I remember corredtly, Angel's body just vamped out at some point (which the old guy didn't really notice at first) and went with instict, which told him to bite Lilah. So he bit Lilah and that was it with that little gettogether.

yeah, angel and lilah never had sex. they just made out and "angel" bit her. and i agree with spirit_of_fred--i don't think the old guy would have lost his soul had he had sex. the curse is bound with angel, in angel's mind and his essence and his soul, really. both angel and his soul were transferred to the old guy's body so he would have only lost it if he had had sex in the old man's body.

i had some questions about this episode too--why did the old man in angel's body eat the breakfast burrito? vampires don't get any nutrition out of food, and when cordelia asked him why he was eating, the guy said "i'm hungry." but shouldn't that have been a different kind of hunger, a blood lust hunger? why didn't he crave blood? why was it only after he accidentally cut himself on one of his own fangs that he realized he liked blood? isn't it innate, instinctual?

I took this as the old man didn't know quite yet that he was in a vampire's body. He felt hungry, and naturally reached for something he believed would satisfy his hunger. It would have been more of a blood lust hunger, but the old man couldn't discern that from the regular hunger that he would have felt in his own body.

Doesn't he say something after he bites Lilah like "well it seemed like the thing to do"? Something like that. I don't think he fully realized he was a vampire till after the face changing/tasting blood thing.....Maybe I'm off though, it's been a really long time since I've seen that ep.....

As far as i'm aware the curse is bound to Angel's soul not his body, and to make things a bit clearer the curse is specific, if Angel experiences a moment of true happiness he loses his soul and reverts to Angelus, thats TRUE happiness and sex alone isn't a cause of true happiness, it happened with Buffy because he loves her. i think it was in Eternity where Wesley tells Cordelia that Angels one moment of true happiness occured when he was with buffy and that is incredibly rare. so if Angel has sex its extremely unlikely that he'll lose his soul, we even see that he can have sex and not go evil in S5 when he sleeps with Nina and Eve

I agree with scythus i always thought that Angel having sex wouldn't automatically bring out Angelus becuase it's one moment of pure happiness,which in my mind means you have to love the person your having sex with alot like he loved Buffy they were "soul mates" and destined to be together. Plus a souls part of Angel it really defines him without it he'd just be another vampire (ok maybe a really hot one 😉) so i doubt the curse would be that easy to get rid of or pass to another person.
