Is it weird that I ship Spillow? (Spike x Willow)

"A Hole In The World" retconned that every male character was in love with Fred at some point, so no, not that weird. Lorne and Fred, now that was weird. Don't get me wrong, Lorne is an empath, and Cow Fred probably hates Pyleans for... well, very sound reasons, so her never pushed the issue. But I will excuse it, because Joss got one heck of a performance out of Andy in that episode.

Frankly, setting Spike up in wholly inappropriate relationships with teenage girls is 60% of all ships. Heck, he's pretty much a SMT: Persona protagonist at this point. Heck, all you've really done is shipped Joker with Futaba, and that's fairly common.

No? Compared to some of the crazy ships I have seen floating around, Spillow doesn't seem so weird. They did have some moments that might lend to someone shipping them. Though I don't really see it myself, personally.

I could ship him with Fred/Illyria, and his interactions with Anya in Where The Wild Things Are, along with future interactions between them has made me a bit of a Spike/Anya shipper.

I think @hoponlilmama has.

Personally, I like Spike (Angel season 5)/Fred. Now, that's really out there!
I don't think it's left-field. In fact, I thought it was pretty obvious. Have you read the IDW comics?

No; comics are not my thing. My assumption that it was a bit odd is based on the amount of fanfic it appears in on AO3; namely, very, very few.
The true image of Spillow is when Spike is chipped and tries to attack Willow in her dorm room but can't a Willow consoles him as if he had erectile dysfunction. My "out there" ship is Cluffy - Clem and Buffy.

Yeah - Cluffy's weird! :D

When I hear "Spuffy is brave of the writers" I not only think of how standard that was, but that genuinely brave (and I'm sure banned) writing would be Cluffy.

I love that scene. Especially when Willow has a "What the heck am I doing?" flash and brains Spike.

Aaawwwww!!!!!!! Clem would be so awesome for Buffy. So caring, so kind, so gentle, with a Demon's edge.
Plus a demon's strength, resiliance, and, I bet he's a Viking ... err ,,, bunny ,,,, err .... stamina in the sack .....err...... wrong ships!!!
Generally speaking, vampires get a pass for everything, especially teens. I know I've heard fan interest in Spillow...seems only slightly less than Spander, but I don't keep up with the shipping. So much shipping. And I figure given what was canon, most non-canon ships are fair game.

If no one else thought of it, it wouldn't have a portmanteau ship name! I can see it - they definitely have some chemistry in their few one-on-one scenes together. But I feel like Spike tends to want a woman who is the boss in the relationship, and Willow (except Dark Willow) is too easy-going.

Personally i don't see Spillow (both Willow and Spike were cuter with Fred) but hey, I coupled Xander and Gwen in a fanfic even though a couple of people were like 'oh, hell no!'

I've heard of weirder shippings in fiction.

I once saw a Buffy/Snyder fic which, to me, was kind of weird. Spillow at least has chemistry and sense, but I suppose it is a niche pairing 🙂

Snuffy? I'd at least read or skim part of it for the comedic value (whether intentional or not by the writer). And who knows, as impossible as a concept sounds, sometimes one can actually make it work (understanding that its fantasy) which awes me.

A Buffy and Sny?!...no. Just no.
Yeah I've heard about Spillow ship. I think Spike and Willow have good friendship connection, he tends to open up to her. So, I can see why people would ship them, I don't personally. But I do think they are a fun pairing.

I first started shipping spillow in season three, when Spike was heartbroken over Drusilla and then went on a fanfiction marathon. I don't think I've met anyone who has thought about it.
Never heard of Spillow before. Given the actual couples on the show, I think Spillow is pretty normal.

LOVE to see Spike and Willow play MISTRESS OF PAIN!!!!!!! 😎

I think @hoponlilmama has.

Personally, I like Spike (Angel season 5)/Fred. Now, that's really out there!
Thanks for tagging me, NAS!

By the way, I also shipped Fred and Spike a little. I could see it happening, they were cute together.
Of course, Spike could generate chemistry with a paper bag, hence why you see a number of fic pairings with him and many characters. 🤣

Back to the original topic, HannahRose, I've shipped Spillow for many, many years.

This is how it plays out in my mind, hopefully I'll make sense explaining myself here: Willow was the quiet one, the bookworm. Somewhere deep down, I think that appealed to Spike, who as we learn in S5 was a poet, a man of words. And I think that would appeal to Willow.

In the series, the scene where Willow shows Spike sympathy and compassion when he tries to stake himself (the episode is Doomed, I believe?), that moment serves as a catalyst for a shift in their standing (wouldn't exactly call it a friendship at that point!)

He was the one who knew how heartbroken she was over Oz. He offered to turn her - something Spike doesn't really do. He's lowkey got a thing for Willow, remembering what she wore a year prior (Lover's Walk) and finds her cute.

I've seen a number of fics that follow my same trail of thought. One could also look at it as the 'good girl with the bad boy'.

From what I've seen with fanfic, their pairing was pretty popular. Nothing compared to Bangel and Spuffy fic of course, but there's a lot. I've read a number of great stories with them, ranging from cute little G-rated fics, all the way to the adult fics.

The other alternative I sometimes consider is if the Dark Willow storyline had a longer arc, Spike could've been drawn to her darkness and they could've had a fling.

I'm not converting to Spillow, but that does sound interesting. And if it were canon, I could see teen (even s4) Spillow having a lot of comedy potential as Willow is REALLY unsure about it (new spells?), and so is Buffy (Angel and Giles?).
I'm going to partner Spike with either Andrew or Kennedy

Given there's a high chance any relationship involving Spike will be dysfunctional and unhealthy, it makes more sense to ruin the lives of characters I hate than ones I like...

🙂

I do feel sorry for Spike for dumping them on him, though.

Still, the rest will be envious. Even if it's like being envious of someone on heroin, knowing of the pain to come.
