So basically, what the hell changed? Just a month ago it seemed like all he was interested in was yelling on Twitter about Trump. Now a whole bunch of projects that he's either directly or tangentially attached to are being announced, or coming out, all around the same time. Does this mean he's back? Who knows if these stories will be any good, but I'm very happy that it feels like Joss is wanting to try again. The stuff that I/we love is never going to go away, so even if all of this sucks, it's nice that we actually get to look forward to something again!

The time was right for him to return to TV. Most of his best work has come from there. Ten years is a good amount of time for him to switch to films. He's had a decent run with them. He can always do the odd film script further down the line. These new projects are exciting ones for him to sink his teeth into.

A lot of those projects are more or less just a matter of him putting his name on it.

I don't know if he's actually writing any scripts for the various comics, or just throwing out story ideas and bits of dialogue and letting other writers sculpt it into scripts.

The Buffy reboot is just a concession to the suits who have been begging him for one for years. If it does go ahead I imagine his involvement will be similar to Agents of SHIELD... he will participate in the development and maybe the pilot, and then step away and just become a name in the credits.

The Nevers is probably where most of his energy is directed. Fans have known for years that HBO or Netflix is the right place for him, and apparently he's finally come around. The Nevers seems to have evolved from the "Twist" comic he was planning to do a couple years ago. It looks to be pretty much a Buffy-like show that he can own outright and not have to deal with Fox or Disney or the Kuzuis all the time.

Exactly. Most of this is Joss in name only. And I thought the same thing about Nevers, it sounded like... was it Twist? I don't know why I always thought it was called Twixt.
