I heard if Joss had the chance to make a Buffy movie, that
he would stop the comics and they aint canon anymore!
Is this true? If so, then i am very happy with this.
I do like the comics but feel they shouldnt be canon.
I dont buy the whole Dracula story, or Buffy and Satsu.
Although if they made s8 at TV series, they could do these stories, i
just really dont think they would have Its getting too superheroey,
same with Atf.
So, while i like them, id love if they wernt canon.
Because i still hold out hope there will be some sort of
spin-off in the future.

Same here. I even made up 3 new characters for a new season of Buffy. I posted one of them on the forum somewhere. The threads called New Character. Take a look at it and tell me what you think.

As of right now, yes, the comics are canon. Joss has mentioned that he would give up writing the comics if he had the chance to do a movie, but I don't remember him ever mentioning that the canon of the comics would go out the window if he did.

Basically, right now, the comics are esentially where Joss wanted to go next with the show, if he had the time and budget to do something like a giant Dawn, which he obviously could never do. This is Joss' BTVS season 8 without the hang ups of money, time or actor commitments.

Would most of the storylines in S8 have happened if Sarah, Nick, Alyson and Michelle were still in the frame? Probably not, but they aren't so I say let's just be happy about the fact that BTVS is still a part of our lives.

gotta agree with that
At Paleyfest a few months back Joss said that if he had the oppertunity to make a Buffy movie with his original actors he would have no problem going against what he has done with the comics so far.

So basically, at this moment in time, S8 is canon but in the extremely unlikely possibility that we get a Bufy movie then S8 could quite possibily cease to be canon.

I think that if there's ever a movie or another series, it'll be either a "next generation" sort of thing entirely, or only involve one or two of the original cast (Giles and Andrew, for example) and a new, younger team of main players. Neither Sarah nor David are likely to reprise their roles, but some of the others might be willing to come by occasionally

I couldnt see Willow or giles wanting to come back either, but imagine Faith, Giles and Xander were the core 3 for a new spin-off, that would be great

Best guess, if such a thing did indeed happen it most likely would be Fray.
Perhaps... one of the reasons why she is being directly included in the canon Buffyverse instead of relegated to a separate comic series is to make sure her introduction does not go unnoticed by those who are only picking up season 8 comics and never heard of Fray before.

Simple speculation really, but with the advances in CGI regarding the ability to deliver for a TV series and cost involved a Fray series might just be doable.
And no worries on obtaining old cast members as regulars, but cameos and one-shots might be arranged more conveniently depending on their level of interest.

And, he could add a sci-fi element as well to the TV Buffyverse which might be appealing story-wise.

I don't think there will ever be a movie. So the comics will stay canon. My opinion.
