So i'm a bit upset having just found out some of the events of season 4. I'm a bit stunned really, and when I read the summary at the back of the DVD I LOL'D so bad! For a second there I thought it was a joke and that I was reading some jacked up plot and that it was a misprint. But it's real...it's all real...

So, my question is, is season 4 worth watching and why? ...because at the moment I feel like just skipping it and watching season 5 for Spike. I just don't know if I can watch Cordy's character get completely butchered!

I would watch it, there are some great eps in season 4, plus you got the return of Angelus and Faith

It's definitely a "love it or hate it" season, even more so than Buffy's S6. I found it very good when watching it on TV the first time (especially as it's so arc-heavy as to end on an absolute cliffhanger like, half the episodes); and I still think that
Jasmine
is one of the best Big Bads in the verse...
if she even deserves the B.B. title - the complete shade of gray is what makes her so great, IMO.

On rewatch, of course, a sizeable number of plotholes and inconsistencies are hard to overlook. And if you're a diehard fan of Cordy, you won't like it much, for obvious reasons. Still, I'd say give it a go before you diss it... at least you'll be sure what to diss it for, afterwards. 😉

To be honest a few things seem to be enough for people to call it awful. It's not as bad as that. Not anywhere near it. You should watch it because otherwise you miss out on some great stuff. On the upside, if you go in with low expectations you got a real chance of being pleasantly surprised.

Some of the shock value is probably gone if you're spoiled about the season so those situations will probably not affect you as much since you're prepared for them. Give it a go!

Spin the bottle and the Faith arc if you want more specifics. Also, of course
Angelus.

I read the full summary on wiki and it turns out Cordy was possessed all along? Because I can dig that (and stomach the Conner/Cordy thing better). Oh and I also read that there's a bit of a mindwipe of Conner ever existing...And I love the sound of that, regardless of retcon.

And I adore Faith, so I could see myself watching her episodes. There's just a bit of a WTF factor that I can't get over and I'm literally scared of touching the DVD cause it all sounds so weird...

First, I read "Season 4" and thought you were talking about Buffy. I was going crazy!!! hehehe!!

I do not like Season 4. It is perhaps my least favorite season in the Buffyverse. I absolutely can't stand Season 4 Connor. But (and this is a huge but), Season 5 of Angel of perhaps my favorite season in the entire Whedonverse. Please, please, please stay away from this board and never ever ever read DVD covers!!!!!😉 😀

So try and see the good things in Season 4 (there are some good things-- I think the baddest demon EVER is in Season 4, Wesley and Fred are great). You'll be greatly rewarded by Season 5.

I love season 4!!! I definitely think you should watch it. Interesting how you already know ahead of time most of the shockers. I wonder how that will affect seeing them. I'd be curious to know. Have fun. 🙂

There's some good stuff in it, worth watching. For example Faith & Angelus crazyness.

And even the things I hate are interesting, it's easy to get drawn in.

Watch it! No matter what we say it won't make up your mind 😉

Personally though season 4 is probably my favorite season of Angel. Is such an incredible arc (that's far more easily enjoyable in dvd format rather than a week-to-week episode basis on TV) and I'm sure that even if you dislike some parts, there'll be moments you love (e.g "Spin the bottle" )

Hell yes it's worth watching! season 4 is the best of Angel..Angelus, Jasmine, Spin The Bottle, Orpheus!.. season 5 is a joke..

hahaha!! That's proof that she should watch it! 4 is my least favorite, 5 is my favorite by a mile!! We all have different opinions. :)

You should definitely watch it... You don't know how amazing this season is! It's my favorite of the show, and I'm not alone to think that. 🙂 I'm a HUGE Cordy fan, and yea it could have been better, but there are a bunch of on the edge of your seat eps in S4. I'd say from episode 6 to episode 17 at least, it's really good. Don't miss on that!

Oh, I forgot Spin the bottle. One of my favorite Angel episodes. It's a must see, and can probably be seen independently. Maybe that single episode is available on itunes or amazon?

Personally, I really really love this season. Right, the evil Cordy thing sucks, but if we ignore it, it's pretty fine. I enjoy it, so maybe you will too.

I don't believe anyone should skip any season of the Buffyverse.

Wesley's arc alone is reason enough to watch this season. Faith's return has some of her best work in the Buffyverse.

Connor and Cordy will piss you off to no end this season though.

Been a while since I've seen this one. I remember liking the big Angelus/Faith morality struggle (or did I dream that?) and the whole Angelus-as-Hannibal-Lecter thing.

I remember NOT liking Wesley's action hero bullet-time dive when he plugged the Beast.

I think the writers rushed to develop a story after Charisma Carpenter got pregnant, but Season 4 had its moments.

Angelus and Faith did the moral thing yes. In a dream, so unintended pun there :)
Aww, come on! It was great because of how awful it was. I burst out laughing when I saw it for the first time. I love that scene.

I suppose you're right 🙂 I do get enjoyment out of watching bad things! Why else did I buy Dragon Ball GT? But anyway, yeah, it was amusing. Wesley's character change was gradual, but he sure did go from "wimpy nerd" to "total badass." By the end of the series he could've probably kicked Giles around.

Ok...I've decided ima watch it. I've lowered my expectations (i have none now😀) so that hopefully things will surprise me (in a good way!). Here goes nothing!

Prepare to be sucker-punched in the soul.

May the Power protect you.

*is not overreacting* 😎

The only way is to watch it yourself and decide. The first 3/4 of the seasons are easily some of the greatest work to ever come out of the Buffyverse...then Jasmine happens and sh*t goes down.

I would highly recommend it though, the ending is really the only bad part, the rest is amazing IMO. Cordelia does get treated like crap this season, and even though that upsets me, it doesn't change the fact other amazing things do happen
