Is Season 8 True to the Characters

It's well documented here at BB season 8 discussions some people think the Buffy/Satsu relationship is not true to the character of Buffy. Other, like me, believe the events of season 8, season 8 environment, innate traits in Buffy's character, and it's evolution through the previous seasons make a Batsu fling credible.

OK, but what about the others? I'll speculate a bit to see if we'll accept stuff which appears to be hinted at if it does come to pass?

Dander?

Willow cheating on Kennedy with Saga Visuki?

Giles abandoning Buffy and slayerforce to go off with Faith on a Faith-based (I love that) quest to redeem corrupted slayers?

Faith as selfless and sold on redemption committing herself to helping others, and refusing the easy escape of a new identity?

Xander as competent military head?

Well, when you put it like that.... maybe A:AtF is better after all ;)
Willow cheating is in my eyes not true to her character... Willow would never! NEVER!

Willow and Xander is formal wear says something different...that girls has been knwon to cheat and do what she wants no matter what.
"Willow cheating on Kennedy with Saga Visuki?

Faith as selfless and sold on redemption committing herself to helping others, and refusing the easy escape of a new identity?"

Those three i find quite believable, Willow going to any length to further her magic, Giles feeling like Buffy doesn't need him anymore so her goes off with someone who does so he can help others to be like himself, Faith realising that she has a greater purpose in life and needs to do whatever she can for the world, not just for herself

"Dander?
Xander as competent military head?"

Those two on the other hand, i find hard to believe, Xander should stay an incompetent bumbling fool who always ends up with a demon girl

Actually, I find Dander most believable. It's really common that someone who's been in love with a girl, completely ignoring the girl's little sister since she's just a child, reconsiders this when suddenly, after moving on of course, he realizes this girl's now a woman. 'Sides I've always thought it's partly because of the love for the big sister : if you love certain things in someone, there's a good chance you can find them too in their sister. Omg it totally sounds like I'm speaking from personal experience, and I'm not really. Just things I saw. So anyway if it's well written and well brought to, I'm all for the Dander thingy.

I find harder to believe that Giles and Buffy didn't patch up in these 1,5 years... But if that's so, I guess it's kinda normal he'd want to partner up with Faith - being partner, not boss, because he's learned from his Buffy "mistake" : his girls are all grown-up now. And Faith, well, that's just a logical evolution for her from BS4/AS1...

I never thought Willow was really cheating on Kennedy (even though the idea of Kennedy being hurt in any possible way is most delightful to me). I mean, it seemed to me she went on this sort of quest, and the nakedness was part of this quest - purity-wise and all. I think the "Hot-even-though-she's-got-sort-of-a-snake-body" lady (I'd never remember her name anyway) just rolled herself around Willow (xD)... who must have been kinda transe-y. And even if she was fully conscious of her act, who can blame her ? I mean, hello, dating Kennedy ! The girl's always been smart, it's about time she realized she had every right to go and see elsewhere (and far far far away from her *vomiting*Kendoll*still vomitting*).

And about Xander, well, that's just the logical evolution, he's finally part of this, because Buffy wanted him to any way. And he certainly toughened up since Anya died and all that. I think it's kinda cool (not that Anya died... god, no.).

I'd like to finish this post with apologies, one more time, for my very bad English... because tonight, in addition, I'm so tired.

I too think this is the logical progression

Willow cheating on Kennedy with Saga Visuki?

Giles abandoning Buffy and slayerforce to go off with Faith on a Faith-based (I love that) quest to redeem corrupted slayers?

Faith as selfless and sold on redemption committing herself to helping others, and refusing the easy escape of a new identity?

I however, think that Xander, Dawn progression is not valid nor in-line with where the characters were going (and no idea why the threw all sense of 'reality' aside with Dawn) and I feel that Buffy REgressed for the sake of drama along. She was whole at the end of the series and now she is broken again. I think the comics 'taint' if you will, the ending of the television series.

I'll admit, I stopped reading the comics, and one of the reasons is this. I didn't like the way the characters go and progress. I think it's a shame.

I think that Dander is completely true to the characters. We have known since day one that Dawn had a crush on Xander and crushes don't go away just like that. I think that it is obvious that she still has feelings for Xander and we all know that Xander loves Dawn. I don't see why everyone thinks it is gross cause he is like a brother. He is not her brother and I think that it is a definite possibility given the situations they have been put into together.

Willow cheating on Kennedy with Saga Visuki?

I think that this can also be true to her character. Willow is a loving friend and a kind person but she can be power hungry and she does what she must do to achieve that power even if it does hurt people.

Giles abandoning Buffy and slayerforce to go off with Faith on a Faith-based (I love that) quest to redeem corrupted slayers?

Again this is true to Giles he has believed that Buffy has been taught everything she needs to be taught and that she can do everything fine without him so it would make sense for him to begin to help another slayer and many other slayers for that matter.

Faith as selfless and sold on redemption committing herself to helping others, and refusing the easy escape of a new identity?

This is a hard one for me to decide on since I don't feel that we know Faith all that well in the comics yet she has only been in that one arc and I would like to see more of her to understand and see where her character is going in order to answer this.

Xander as competent military head?

Again I think that this stays true to the character. I think that Xander has proven himself many a times thoughout the series as being able to hold his own. Obviously there are a lot of unexpected things happening in his line of work but he does not actually have to physically fight many of them he is just there to give orders and strategize. We have seen that he is a responsible adult in the episode The Replacement. He was able to get a promotion where he was in charge of the construction sight. I think this episode is a perfect example of who Xander is because he does have a silly side but he also has a side that can be responsible and take charge. GO XANDER!

Basically I do think that Season 8 is holding true to the characters and I am quite happy with where it is right now and cannot wait to read more. I also think that although things like Batsu happen and we all go "WHAT?!?" They eventually come out to make sense and with Batsu I feel a sort of begining of the Spuffy relationship with the whole "I just want to feel.." and then she took advantage of someone else's feelings for her just to feel something.

Great post.

Didn't happen yet 🙂 And from what we saw, it's very believable, the show always played with the idea of different unlikely to happen ships. Xander/Spike? Willow/Anya? All had subtext.

Willow cheating on Kennedy with Saga Visuki?

I honestly think that Willow is doing it for the greater good. She needs Saga Visuki and it's the only way to get her help. Plus we have to wait to see how this story gonna unfold. As for Willow never cheating... well, what about when she cheated with Xander on Oz?

Giles abandoning Buffy and slayerforce to go off with Faith on a Faith-based (I love that) quest to redeem corrupted slayers?

Believable. Buffy and Giles weren't close since he had left her in S6 and their relationship grew further apart from that moment. Plus, they were never shown to mend it.

Faith as selfless and sold on redemption committing herself to helping others, and refusing the easy escape of a new identity?

Believable. Faith started doing selfless and right decisions since S1 Angel.

Xander as competent military head?

Believable. We saw the signs of Xander's competent leadership in S7 Dirty Girls, and with the loss of his eye and inability to return back to construction, it was better to learn how to be more useful to the unit instead of just being the window fixer.

I like everything that has happened so far in the comics. But God I wish they were longer!!!!!

I see the character progressions as something great.
Xander finally being apart of everything. Not just someone on the sidelines waiting to drag one of his bestfriends corpses away. I like military man Xander. Its great. And if he and Dawn happen to spark some flames im all for it. I see nothing wrong with it. Xanders a great guy and its something believable that happens alot in todays world.

Buffy and Satsu.
I.

LOVE.

IT!

I mean come on. I kinda of saw it happening or a possibilty of some kind or something forming with them.((SLEEPING TOGETHER)) ah!!!!! lol! It was new and different in BUffys territory.

Everything with Faith and Giles i love as well. FAith continuing on from AS4 & BS7 to help others. I want it no other way. And with Giles away It lets us all see how much Buffy has grown and that she understands things better from GIles watcher p.o.v. Just want another arc with these two!

And everyone keeps complaining about how they've changed.(( they have a right to so dont give me doses of bad karma!!))) lol. BUt change is good. If everyone remained the same as they were in season 7 then the comics would be kinda .....dull I might say.

Look at BUffy. How much she changed.

Movie-rich, snotty, not really caring.
S1-understands being a slayer. friends
s2-bad girl when she returns.
s3-matured
s4-felt left out
s5-felt as if everything was against her
s6-renewed.......yet empty
s7-a leader...

I mean im not right on but u know what i mean. all the characters make changes from season to season.(( Im sleepy now!! lol )) Willow was shy and geeky, then opened up and dating a rock band member, magic introduced, gay, power hungry psycho, goddess( some would say)

Yeah I don't see anything wrong with the progression of Season 8, I mean look at what happened with Cordelia and Angel or Buffy & Spike, what did Lorne call it "carumshin," they're both always in the big battles together fighting side by side, they're both the ONLY non-magical ones of the entire Scobby Gang and the SlayerForce (and I guess Andrew too, but he's not around, BTW did you guys hear that Tom Lenk came out the closet), also it's natural that Faith would want to help other slayers, I mean she always talks about how Angel had a major influence on her redemption and since Giles basically has nothing else to do why wouldn't he join her, especially since his relationship with Buffy is estranged and he also isn't needed as book guy anymore or watcher.

Also is Willow really cheating on Kennedy? We don't know if Willow and Saga actually had sex, we just know that Willow needs to be having some type of sex in order to enter Saga's realm, or get sent there, cause remember when that Japanese vampire sent her to the realm

i keep buying the season 8 comics but havent read many just the first few so i really need to catch up. but what i have read it is hard to see the real characters in them, i think joss was/is trying to do stuff he never got chance to do on the series if that makes sence???

as for willow cheating i've not read that yet as far as i can remember but if any one has read dark congress its kennedy who cheats on willow, then willow leaves her and.... i wont spoil that bit for those who havent read it but its a nice surprise (overall dark congress not the best book but does have some good moments in it i liked alot of it untill the end which was a bit crappy)

Willow cheating on Kennedy with Saga Visuki?

I don't know. I somehow see the Saga Visuki thing as Willow using Kennedy as means to get to Saga Visuki. Kinda like thinking of someone else when you're being....significant with your significant other- just hyped up metaphor. But I totally see the whole dealio as natural progression.

Buffy - I don't like on account of her using yet another person, but I don't find it out of character necessarily.

Giles and Faith - totally on par. Buffy has been shutting Giles out since year 4. Except when she needs money or something.

Also is Willow really cheating on Kennedy? We don't know if Willow and Saga actually had sex, we just know that Willow needs to be having some type of sex in order to enter Saga's realm...

Yea....and Willow pbviously doesnt like using Kennedy for it as we can tell when she returns from the realm she seems disgusted with herself.
