Is season 8 worth reading?

I just bought and read The Long Way Home. I liked it. Not too weird yet. I just loved
the "Fe, Fi, Fo...F***ing Fum" and Dawn squishing Amy. Hilarious.

I suggest you buy the first arc and decide for yourself. Personally, I'm not a comic book fan, but I do love S8. There are a lot of things that made me squeal with happiness.

I completely agree with this. I grew up with comics, although I hadn't read them in years. But you have to understand that it's a different medium altogether, and it takes a bit of adjusting to. I had to read each issue several times before I really got what was going on. I like season 8, although I don't like every single about it. Doesn't really bother me, there are some aspects I don't like on the show either. Some of the art is better than others, I'll admit. But the most fun thing (now that I'm all caught up) is getting to discuss them with other BBers. Since I didn't watch much of Angel or Buffy when it was aired, I didn't have that same talking about the episode, anticipating next week, etc that I would have had I watched it at that time. I'm getting that with the comics. We've discussed the upcoming final issues to death it seems, and every time we get a little tiny preview, we're all off and running on a million wild theories & speculations. It's a blast! 🙂 So, try to catch up before we're done, or else just get all caught up on season 8 before season 9 starts so you can talk about it with us.

Thanks, your info is really helpful. My friend actually owns all the comics so i just broowed them from him and plan on reading the first ep, here soon.
And i will defeintly have to catch up so i can discuss with yall. i never had that watching the show either. i didn't start watching till season 6 so it was hard for me to ever stay caught up, i had to buy all seasons and go back and watch in order. Anyway it will be nice to be able to discuss buffy with fellow fans, don't really get to talk about buffy much with anyone except this site now 🙂 which I love!
Anyway thanks for help, and i'll post my review of the first one when i am done 🙂

I know some people complain about it being ridiculous and over the top, that some stuff wouldn't have happened like this on the show. I disagree with that. We ARE talking about a show that had not one but two walking, talking robots, a literal credit shark and kitten Poker.

LMFAO!! YES!! Thank you! Very well said!

I think Icarium hit the nail on the head with the comics; it all depends on why you enjoy Buffy. Season 8 takes the superhero/action aspects of the show and amplifies them to the extreme but the idea that the Buffyverse is closely connected to the real world is pretty much abandoned.

Personally, what I loved most about Buffy was how ingeniously the writers meshed real world problems that kids everywhere experience as they grow up with this amazing fantasy world. It caused me to connect to the characters in a much deeper way than any other show could because I could point to events in the show and say that, minus the vamps and magic, I went through something similar.

Now granted I haven't read every issue of the comics but from what I've seen they just don't have that connection to the real world. The buffyverse is now a 'verse of pure fantasy and there's nothing really for me to connect to. They're still fun though and worth a read if you wanna see how the plot advances after season 7. I look forward to seeing what you think of them 🙂

Istarted the comics, got through the first four of The Long Way home;

So I can see where people are saying it's different from the show in the aspect it's pretty much all fantasy and superhero stuff. I gotta say it wasn't what I expected. I enjoyed the show so much better. I liked what StakeSteak said about being able to relate to the show in ways. I liked how they meshed the two worlds together.
On the other hand though, the world was changed after season 7 and I can see them takeing a different route, so I'm not saying I didn't like the comics. Infact I really enjoyed it, in different way then the show though. I deffiently will continue reading them. Seeing Warren and Amy come back was WOW, a shocker wasn't expecting that. I also really enjoyed Dawn whole "Fie Fi Fo F*&%in Fum" then squishes Amy, lmao I had a good laugh out of that.
Sure I see how the two are different and how some can like and some cain't. I do like the show way better, but I like the comics to. I guess it's a way fror me to hold on to the buffyverse, lol.
Also cain't wait to catch up so I can dscuss them all with you fellow fans. I didn't have that when i watched the show since I didn't start till it was pretty much over and went back and watch frm beginning. It'll be nice to be able to discuss it now, specially since I have no friends who like Buffy around here. people in my town don't have good taste, lmao.
Anyway thank you all for your help, and I am glad I decided to read them. Gonna start the next issue tonight after class 🙂

Here's my thing... Yes it is more about he superhero stuff and yes it is over the top. But the writers kind of cut loose with season 8. There are things they can do in the comics that they just couldn't do on the TV because of money and some other stuff. Maybe THIS is what they WANTED it to be or maybe they just got wrapped up in the fact there's so much they can do in comics they can't do on TV. Or maybe they, like me, understand that the comic world is very different from the TV world and the comic world allows for more superhero stuff and therefore less "real life" stuff. It's not that the show is better than the comics or anything. It's more like the comics are different from the show and some of the fans of the show don't like the difference.

See, that actually is the thing a lot people don't understand. It's a comic book, so it's written like a comic book.

i agree completly. I didn't mean before to factly say the show is better than the comics. I just ment there different and I liked the show aspect better than the comics, but still i do like the comics.
I agree with you statement about comics being able to be more open than shows with money issues. Well put.

I'm so glad you're enjoying it! 🙂 It's a fun experience to read all S8 in a one sitting, much more enjoyable than reading one issue each month.

Oh, you've got four issues to read, lucky you. #34, #35, #36, and #37. I'll be interested to know what you think.

Ok I will get the riley one-shot for sure. Que. about the willow one-shot I have not read that one, is it important to season 8 and is it worth to get?

No, it's not. On both accounts. It details on how Willow met the snake lady, but it's not very good, imo.
