Alright this has been going on in my mind for a while but I've decided to get your opinions on the matter. This may make no sense to anyone but I'm gonna try and word what I'm thinking. Angel has always been the main guy in the show (it is called Angel after all) but now that Spike is on the show from what I've read it seems that the show has become focused on Spike and the writers make an effort to find storylines for the rest of the gang (even Angel). During season 4 Wesley really stepped up in the AI ranks and became the second guy but in season 5 hes character seems to have been pushed back and has only had one proper episode (Lineage). Joss and co. kept going on about how Gunn would change this season and get a bigger part but what has he actually done? Wow he has law knowledge now! Has he had any episodes that have given him bigger scenes than in season 4? So far Fred hasn't done much but be there for Spike when he needs her. I can't comment on Lorne. As for Angel all his storys so far have involved Spike in some way. I know its great to see the two react with each other but give Angel some time on his own (he is the main star!). Spike seems to have taken over every part of Angel this season and also seems to be alot popular. I know among die hard fans he might not be but casual Buffy and Angel viewers tend to like him more because he is more in your face. All my friends love him but struggle to remember Angel's name. In polls Spike normally beats Angel too. Now I am not knocking Spike or season 5 in any way (I have not even seen it yet). I'm not sure if you even get what I'm going on about either. What I'm basicly asking is can you have a show where a supporting actor is more popular than the main star?

I think they're really playing up Spike, but I don't feel it's become really overly focused on him. I mean, most of 'his' episodes have been about his rivalry with Angel (with the exception of Hellbound), so Angel gets an equal part. I do think they've been promoting James joining the cast a little muchly, but maybe that's just to pull in more fans from Buffy who didn't really watch Angel before.

This is the very reason I didn't want James on Angel-don't get me wrong, I love him! But now I've actually heard people complain when Spike isn't the main focus of the episode=he isn't supposed to be! Angel should be! This is exactly what happened with Buffy on Season 6 and 7.

I think they gave Spike soo much attention to get Buffy fans who not necessarily like Angel..I believe that in later eps Angel will be once more be in charge tho....

Maybe they'll make an episode around it, Angel moaning Spike gets too much attention. Then maybe they'll have that oiled up fight buffy wants.

You bring up a very good point. As a Spike fan I'm glad he's on Angel and getting all the attention, but i agree that the other characters are getting pushed behind him. I do think that they had to have a few episodes that centered around him so we could clear up the ghost thing and so that the word could get out that Spike was now on Angel so Buffy fans should turn on Angel once in a while. Spike was one of the most popular characters on Buffy, some might say he was even more popular than the slayer herself, so I think that Joss and the other writers wanted to have the beginning of the season focused on him so that Buffy fans wouldn't stop watching Angel b/c there wasn't enough Spike. Either way this really hurts someone, the Angel Fans b/c they're not seeing enough of their fav. characters, or the Buffy fans b/c they're not seeing enough Spike. But I do think that the last half of the season won't be too much about Spike. They'll bring the gang back together and they'll have to fight the evil creature of the season and everything will be great🙂.

I want that that half of the season now....It starts to anoy me,but I understand why is is done that way....

Yea I can totally understand why Angel fans are very upset about the focus on Spike, but it is necessary for them to do it this way

Well to me Spike has had his 15 minutes of fan on Angel, he had his little moments and hopefully the show will start putting him in the background once agian. I can see why Wesley is put in the background right now since Alexis just got married to Alyson and they just got back from their honeymoon. Hopefully Wesley will become the second leading male agian and not Spike. But seeing as though I have read future spoilers the writers are still giving Spike a bit to much of a big role in the show and putting all the rest of the people in the background.

Atleast I will look forward to Harmony in the future.

But if the rest of the season goes with Spike being one of the main focuses then I probably wont be looking forward to Season6 if there is one. I can deal with them basically putting James second in the credits but I've dealt with Spike being the center of attention since basically Season5 of Buffy, I dont need anymore.

Thank you! This is what I've been saying. I love the hell out of James, he's excellent. But the show is about Angel, not Spike! I didn't want Spike on AtS for that exact same reason... during Season 6 - 7, I was like, "What ever happened to Buffy The Vampire Slayer?" it was extremely annoying because the whole show was getting taken up by Spike. Don't get me wrong, Spike's good, I loved him in his badass days but he shouldn't take up the show. Truth be told, I know James picked the ratings up for AtS (or so I was told) but I would've rather had no AtS instead of Spike taking over AtS.

Thing is, Spike is more popular then Angel. Thats why I tend to get peeved when people say, "oh he's so hot! yadda, yadda, yadda" because I get sick of hearing the same thing over and over again, and sometimes this can make me lashout at Spike alittle. Never understood what the big deal was... he's just an ordinary guy to me. He's a cutie, but nah, he don't interest me. And his character hasn't interested me since Season 4... when they made him Buffy-whipped, and he followed her around like an obsessed little puppy dog, it literally ruined his character for me. NO, not because I'm a B/A shipper (because hello, B/A shipper that liked Buffy/Riley, so it had nothing to do with that) but the fact that they destroyed his character and I don't like seeing him like that.

So yea, Spike is more popular. But I remain unaffected by him. I'm more of an Angel...and even Riley fan then I am of Spike. But, I use to like Spike. Key words being use to. Never liked him more then Angel though...NEVER. 😉

I have a question, i have seen every single episode of buffy more than once but only ever seen a few episodes of Angel, although i have just brought season one boxset so i can start catching up with everyone else.

Anyway my question is didnt Spike die in the last episode of buffy?
Is he still alive (so to speak)?
What am i missing someone tell me???

Thanx

Yes, he did die on Buffy but the amulet brought him back on Angel. He was a ghost for the first 7 episodes but now he's corporeal again, yadda yadda yadda. You get my drift. 😀

And yeah, I too am annoyed that Spike is getting this much attention. If the show were called 'Spike: The Series', then yes, I'd understand all the hype. But not when he's taking over Angel's own show. And another thing, if Spike is the one that gets to Shanshu ... let's just say I probably won't tune into Season 6 if there is one.

how do you know they will shanshu in 5?

But I agree, I almost found myself rooting for spike.
Angel is the one who worked so hard, Angel should be the one, who get's vindicated. I think they should tone Spike's character down a bit, so that it's not such a presence, Because, it's almost as if JM has overtaken Ats, as the Lead.

True, we don't know if there will be a Shanshu. But I'm only saying, if there is one Angel better be on the recieving end. Like Angel said, he worked for over 100 years to achieve atonement and deal with his soul. Spike only moped in a basement for a week and was all better. It's obvious who should become human ...

I'm not completely ticked off about the big emphasis on Spike, but after watching reruns of Seasons 3 and 4 of Angel, I'm wondering...where are the storylines on the other characters? What has always bugged me this season was how they put James as the second person in the credits. He should be on the end right before Alexis. I just think that's right. Yeah, I am a little picky.

I'm right there with you, if one of them Shansu's and its Spike, I wouldn't watch anymore either. Angel's work too long, and too hard for it just to be given to Spike. Its always annoyed me that Spike got a soul, and it would just annoy me too much to see him Shansu if he did.

Thanx for the info Rocket, ive just realised though there's people out there that probably havent seen that episode yet so ive probably ruined it for them
feeling very guilty🙁
SORRY x

okay, you ppl know what i think,do i have to wirte everything what you already wrote for me?...let's put it this way:im with all of you

I think they brought Spike on to Angel so that it would spice up his show because it was in need of some flavor.
