That line got me thinking. I'm not asking about the Buffyverse, that's why it's in the Bronze section. I wanted to know what you think about this phrase. Do you agree? Can you give examples?

I kinda agree. Just getting through mundane things such as paying your bills, pumping gas, going to work, and things like that can really wear you down and break your spirit. In my opinion, we weren't meant for things like this. We are so much more than the little guy in a giant corporation, making minimum wage just to get by. But the world doesn't revolve around my ideas so I would say that saying holds true.

It's one of those quotes that sounds so true, but it's hard to explain why. It just sounds like obvious truth.

Because as Living Dead Boy said, just living can be hard. Some days I just want to cry when I have to get up, even though there's nothing hard I have to do. It's just the going through the day that's tough. We feel like life should be so much more.

Then there's the I-don't-dare-to-try-new-things-and-dare-to-REALLY-live angst. It's hard to try to write that book you've always wanted to write, it's hard to try to put yourself out there.

The way the world is now then yes, every day your reading or hearing in the news about another natural disaster killing hundreds or war breaking out over the leader of a country etc, or in general just people finding another way to ruin it. Plus generaly the cost of "living" is very hard these days, jobs are hard to come by, bills are higher, some families are working 60 hours a week just to put food on the table and a keep a roof over their heads.

But as the saying goes, life is what you make of it.

I think it's totally true. Being fully here now - always.... heart and mind and body all aligned, that's hard! (For me anyway... I'm like a fish always distracted by the shiny object... and I live in a world of lots of shiny things)

I believe so. I think a lot of people (myself included at times) tend to live in what could or will be instead of what actually are. Accepting where one are in ones life right now and dealing with the consequences of that can be extremely hard. I think socioeconomic status and gender (for example) makes a world of difference too though, which means that it's harder for some people to live in the world than others. But basically all difficult things comes down to dealing with issues that are at hand in ones life, and regardless of such things as gender, class or race those things you find difficult aren't any less of a problem just 'cause you might have certain advantages in other areas. Facing those problems and to keep on living can be really hard then, but also really brave.

Well in my opinion, this is all there is. So logically, there isn't anything more difficult than living as we have no other alternative in which we can feel any kind of misery or difficulty. However, if life was easy then I doubt we'd have as much literature and music and other forms of escapism as we do have. Challenges help shape some sort of meaning I think, that's why it's not intrinsic to us besides the evolutionary aspects. We don't all react the same way so challenges are faced differently and thus different meanings and problems arise.

I don't want to get a job, I didn't want to go to prom, and I don't want to make small talk with the annoying lady at the checkout counter. I want to pull a JD Salinger and live in the woods with a kitten named Arthur who only wears sweater vests with bow ties, and Matthew Gray Gubler. We'd live in a cottage, filled with taxidermy, and we'd drink out of monogrammed mugs.

But alas...no. Sometimes, I do kind of wish that I didn't exist. Sometimes reality feels like a total dream, and my dreams feel completely real. It's strange. Things are easier when I'm asleep. Sometimes the Arthur the kitten scenario is a reality there, sometimes I can fly, and sometimes Pat Sajak grants me with a lifetime supply of cheese.

And sometimes, I should go to bed at 1am instead of responding to threads that make me have to think.

Love your post.
I agree. You break so often in live, there are hundred of people who never find back into a civilized sociaty and childrens have to see how their parents die and still the other way around. Of course there is much happyness in the world too, but I think it's not really fair distributed. I see what Buffy meant but there are several reasons to keep alive, more than I can ever count here. But I agree, one of the most difficult things in live is to live in our world.

Well, in my opinion, living in this world includes everything you do, so yes, I think this phrase has some truth behind it.
