Is there a segment of fans upset that Giles left everything to Faith?

I was reading a review of Angel & Faith #1 and the reviewer was saying how some Buffyverse fans would surely skip it because of Angel's actions in season 8 (Understandable; I almost skipped it as well) and because there were those that were upset that Giles left everything to Faith.

Personally, I see why he did leave everything to her. She really needed it more. Now she has cash, a home, and hopefully a chance to build a life for herself.

Buffy on the other hand, lives in a freaking castle! (I understand that may change in S9 but Giles couldn't have known that). Plus, doesn't she have millions of dollars from robbing banks and jewelry stores? She would surely be well off; enough that she wouldn't need Giles money or anything.

Add on the distant relationship Giles and Buffy had in S8 and its understandable why he would only leave her a book. Her legacy.

What are your opinions on this? Do you feel Giles wronged Buffy or anyone else with his will?

I was pissed when i first read it... like "how DARE you Giles!" And used it as further proof about why I hated him... But now I'm like "eh... I see why Faith got it all and I'm kinda glad Buffy doesn't have to deal with it" especially after reading the first issue of Angel and Faith.

I think Giles leaving Buffy the Vampyr book, and about how she was the one true Slayer made up for any negative feelings I had about it.

I'm saving my opinion until we learn what's really in that book that Giles left Buffy. In the meantime, I'll just say that, given Faith's status (we assume) is still a wanted fugitive, AND playing the role of Mama Slayer to a bunch of newbies in London she could be considered as being more in need of a sizable bank account than Buffy. After all, as far as we know, the only employment that she has ever had was as muscle for Mayor Wilkins. She just might not know how to hold down a normal job and support herself, whereas Buffy has proven that she can not only hold down a real job, but patrol and slay at the same time. (Kinda lame excuse, I freely admit, but about all that I can come up with at the moment)

The bank robbing was done solely to fund their group; and from what I gather of what's going on in the 'verse that money is gone or not at Buffy's disposal. I look at it like this; in season six Buffy needed Giles to bail her out of her money problems because at that moment she wasn't strong enough to stand on her own two feet.

By giving Faith the monetary inheritance it was showing that she needed the support he had never been able to give her fully in Sunnydale. By giving Buffy the book he was acknowledging that he had no more to teach her about being The Slayer and that she was her own woman.

Since Btvs is a story of feminine empowerment it's symbolic for her "father" to relinquish his claim to her identity/destiny and stand aside.

And this comes full circle by making a a statement about how young girls nowadays are having adulthood thrust upon them way too early in these modern times. I say this because what was the first thing Giles tried to do in the series...give Buffy that damn book!

I think there is much more to the allocation of Giles' assets than meets the eye, so I will hold my opinion on it until we get more info.

What I will say is that given the way Buffy and Giles' relationship has grown more and more strained, pretty much since the Cruciamentum and going right up to S8 where he was trying to find a way to kill Buffy, I'm not surprised by his will. I was sad for Buffy though. While the first issue of A&F has done some work to explain why Giles began keeping such a distance from Buffy and why he never had his own children, I think Buffy still very much saw him as a father figure and expected something befitting that relationship. I'm sure that to Buffy, it must look like Giles saw Faith as his "daughter" and Buffy getting the Vampyr book shows that Buffy was just "the slayer".

Hoepfully, we'll get a good explanation throughout the season.

Personally, I love that Giles left things to Faith, but I am shocked that he left everything but the Vampyr book to her... I love Faith, and I'm so happy that Giles took her under his wing the way he should have in S3, and made her feel like someone cared about her and looked at her as more than a fugitive and rogue.

Are people forgetting Buffy basically kicked Giles in the nuts in season 7? "I have nothing else to learn from you" (I can't remember the exact line, but it went like that). So i'm not surprised he left everything to Faith, she was much better to him in season 8 than Buffy.

True, but also came on the back of Giles once again betraying Buffy and going behind her back to something. The Spike issue might have gone better if he had actually gone to her about it.
True, Caesar. But I thought they made up in season 7, didn't they?

I've also heard theories that Giles lost more memories in A&F than we realize and that may be why he and Buffy have been so different.

I don't buy it, but it is a good theory.

IIRC, that issue just got swept under the rug and they pretended like it didn't happen (one of the reasons why I think season 7 is the worst Buffy season). Then, in season 8 (can't remember the issue) Giles says he and Buffy are not on speaking terms

While I think there is more to it than we know or understand so far, I was very sad for Buffy. I can see Buffy looking at the will and adding it to the list of things Faith has taken from her.

The only part about it that upset me was that I think Giles would've known Buffy would initially be hurt by it. He was aware of her rocky relationship with Faith and this had the potential to add fuel to that fire.

Yeah, well not everything is about Buffy. Giles had to look out for Faith, he couldn't base his will on the basis of 'People that Buffy gets along with.'

Canon isn't clear on if Buffy still has the castle or the money she stole, but she had it all when Giles made his will. He can't see the future. Frankly, I'd be upset if he left everything to her on the off chance that she might someday possibly lose her castle and fortune. Faith had nothing, so its understandable that Giles helped her out.

If Buffy is upset and brings the will with Faith to try to start something, I will be veryannoyed.

I'm not upset about it. Still waiting to see how everything plays out! 😉 I think Giles has his reasons, and if Buffy's not too upset about it, neither am I.

I haven't read the comics yet; I've only heard about this, but it made me really, really sad.

The Buffy-Giles relationship is my favorite thing in BtVS, and I hated to see it deteriorate starting with Giles's inexplicable decision to leave Buffy in season 6.

Of course its not...I never said it was. And I also never said I expected him to write him will based Buffy, that's just silly. I should have made myself more clear, I don't feel like Buffy has been wronged...but I do see how she may have initially felt like she was; and that too me is sad. Also, I do understand why Giles left all his material possessions/money to Faith. Clearly (as we just saw with the first issue on A&F) Faith is using what Giles left her and is benefiting from it in a way that I doubt Buffy could have.

The saddest part of the whole thing is how much Buffy and Giles' relationship had deteriorated from their once strong father/daughter bond.

I like that theory, that maybe Giles doesn't remember everything the way we do, and the way Buffy does.

I was initially shocked to hear that Giles left everything to Faith but also, Giles always did what was best for the greater good, even if it would mean going against his own "child," we see this in the beginning of A&F #1. I trust that we will see why Giles' did this.

I didn't mean to imply that you thought so. I meant that sometimes she seems to think so. I'd just finished watching Sanctuary/Five by Five before posting that reply so my opinion of Buffy at the time was very low. 😱
