Spoiler! Is There A Way To Be Good Again? **Massive Twilight Spoilers***

I see the parallel between Angel and Ozymandias -- if that's the direction Joss goes in.

But Joss presumably knows his audience and Alan Moore's are quite different, and making Angel into Ozymandias is not going to play well with many. Whether he cares or not is a different question. I have a hunch he doesn't really intend to go THAT dark.

I'm starting to believe that there really isn't any such thing as a hero.

Sure there is. There's heroism, and there's villainy, but there's no such thing as perfection, at least not in the Buffyverse, and not in the real world. Buffy, Angel, Spike, Giles, and all of the others have at one time or another been both hero and villain. If it's Angel's turn to be the Big Bad, I'm betting that he will have a damn good reason for doing what he has done. As you keep saying, Angel is too valuable a character within the Buffyverse scheme of things for Joss to just toss him out with the trash at this point. (Bes If nothing else, he has to serve as Best Man at Buffy and Spike's wedding and be the godfather for their eight children)

The villainy Angel has displayed as Twilight is several orders of magnitude greater than anything Buffy, souled Angel, souled Spike, Giles, or any of the others have ever done in the name of necessity for the "greater good."

As I said, good can only carry so much evil on its back before it ceases to be good. And good vs. evil as a cold mathematical equation doesn't make for a good story.

If "Our Angel" has chosen to do these things, for whatever excuse, he can no longer be a hero. You could just as easily call Hitler a hero because his policies pulled Germany out of the Depression, or Mao Tse-tung a hero because he eliminated the gangster warlords and eased China's overpopulation by killing off ten percent of the population. You can only do so much evil before the incidental good becomes irrelevant.

I know I'm reviving this thread from extinction but I don't care.

If Angel is Twilight, it would completely ruin his character and everything he stood for. It would mean that Cordelia, Doyle, Fred, and Wesley's deaths were for nothing. They all died so he can keep fighting "the good fight" but then he turns around and becomes SuperBitch complete with a costume and everything. What happened to his quest for redemption and everything he went through? Was that all for nothing? I really hope it's not OUR Angel and that Joss has something up his sleeve, cause if he doesn't then I will be pissed off!
