As most of you know, I'm rarely serious when I'm here. But an extraordinary thing happened today! And since I do consider you guys friends/family, the first thing I did when I got home was post this.
Two hours ago, my sister and I visited my mother at the private nursing facility she's in. (For those of you didn't know, she has dementia) Normally, she's lost in her own world and doesn't recognize any of us. She's also bedridden, and has been since March 2023.
As my sister brushed her hair, mom suddenly sat up and in her normal voice said, "I have such beautiful daughters. I love you both so much!" She was fully alert and knew who we were. Her eyes weren't glazed over and empty, there was someone "home," if you know what I mean. It was like a light had been suddenly turned on...she was MOMMY. ❤️
I almost started crying, and my sister was so shocked (as was I!) that she dropped the hairbrush. Two of the nurses came into the room and couldn't believe what they were witnessing. Mom was absolutely "normal," just chattering away. Then she asked, "Why am I HERE?" Oh my God.
This wasn't just a matter of her being able to speak normally. It's like she was suddenly cured or something. She was talking and fully alert. No slurred speech, no confusion, just my mother having a regular conversation with her daughters.
If you guys could please take a moment and say a prayer for her, I'd be extremely grateful!! I haven't seen my "regular" mom for nearly four years...if there's ANY possibility that she's actually getting better, that would be the best thing that's ever happened to my family and I. 🙏
